Generally, by reading the blogs on LoHud and many other news sites, the public has no idea what we do or why we do it, which are often evidenced by their 'comments'. That being said, I still feel, if your doing the right thing, there is no need to put on a show, so to speak, for the benefit of a photographer.

I generally believe many systems (not all) over-utilize stair chairs, stretchers for patients that are more than ambulatory. (Nothing to do with this particular incident, as I don't know the specific details.) I can remember working Mt Vernon ten years ago and you go up in the buildings and the first question from patients/families was "Where's your orange chair at?!" That being said, I'm the first one to carry those who truly need it, just not those who don't. Remember your ABC's (Ambulate Before Carry.)

Not sure how that would have helped, as most backgrounds are completed when the employee/volunteer first starts. In this case, according to the article, his two arrests came AFTER he was a member. So, a background, or lack thereof, would not have made any difference.

Let's face it, the best part of that story is the perp stealing a $1M painting and fencing it for $100.

He pled guilty, therefore, in this case, it did "hold up".

They are not required to, but in my personal opinion, they are idiot's if they do not. I would say a vast majority do in fact wear them, at least with the group I work with. No emergency vehicle operators are, nor are mail carriers or taxi drivers. See NYS VTL Sec. 1229.c.4, 9 and 10. This is only actual emergency vehicles as defined in VTL Sec. 101. Edit: Added text of Sec 101.

See NYS VTL Sec. 375.41.8:

As has been the past customs on EMTBravo I believe, please don't say "As per the law" unless you actually include citations to the "laws" your referencing.
-
I'm not sure what's more annoying personally, someone unsure of specifics in the law or someone ignorant of the law, yet so confident in their "knowledge" that they use capitals, bold, and underlining a fact, which just happens to be incorrect? (See NYS VTL 375.41.4.b and c)

It appears they did address this in the article:

Very interesting to see then Gov. Mitt Romney's position.

So, let's try them and sentence them to long prison terms. Oh, wait, Bush couldn't handle doing that.
-
Any evidence of that or just another conspiracy theory. I can't help but notice, since it's been in the news EVERYDAY, no free passes are being given.

I think it makes them look more aerodynamic!

Has it really happened? From Seton Hall Law School... An academic look at the claims... http://law.shu.edu/administration/public_r...ong_on_gtmo.htm http://law.shu.edu/center_policyresearch/r...mbers_11509.pdf

This scenario could have played out in almost literally any agency. An intoxicated 'employee' or 'volunteer' shows up and has access to where the keys are kept. Could have been in the middle of the night at a volunteer station (perhaps unoccupied) or a career station (on duty crew asleep). This could even have occurred at most police stations. Middle of the night, minimum staffing, slip in and grab keys. Even if the keys were locked up, as an employee or volunteer, the subject most likely would have routine access to them.

Wow! You guys were all right. Look at this nonesense!! New ethics rules, pay freezes. This guy must be nuts!
-
Generally the same test, your scores are just sent to all agencies who you paid the fee to.

Seriously. It seems to me we can now read the posts and predict whether the poster is Fulltime or Volunteer before even looking at who wrote it, and predict correctly 98% of the time.

Not sure where you got that. Aviation works 7 days a week, 7am-11pm, with Pilots available for recall from 11pm-7am.

That's true, they are a matter of feet away from each other.
