  1. Well, sorry if this is news to you, but anyone who has the means, opportunity, and impetus to flee to a foreign nation needs to be approached from a different perspective. Especially when we know in advance that it's a nation with strict extradition rules, such as Nigeria. That's the reality of a criminal prosecution and of the world we live in.
  2. The News12 Chopper stream is coming across pretty well. http://www.news12.com/articleDetail.jsp?articleId=275478&position=1&news_type=news
  3. Were those the only FF's laid-off, or are there additional members who weren't picked back up yet?
  4. Well said. How people made the jump from conducting a legitimate criminal investigation to ethnic cleansing and discrimination is beyond me. Consider this analogy: When a topic takes a technical turn in firefighting, I personally tend to sit back and follow the discussion, because I admittedly know very little of the specifics of firefighting. Yet, here, commentators citing constitutional provisions and other violations of the law are not basing their posts in any semblance of law or facts and it does quite a disservice to law enforcement in general as well as members of this board who may accept their comments as "facts."
  5. Guess what. You can follow and conduct surveillance upon people who are as free as you and I. Can I clearly assume your speaking from first hand experience and training in constitutional law and criminal investigations? (I will not even entertain your comment concerning disparities in citizens versus non-citizens, as I find it insulting.)
  6. Surveillance of a suspect doesn't violate their any of their rights. In fact, it does not require any of the following: 1) Court Order 2) Warrants 3) Probable Cause 4) Reasonable Suspicion 5) Etc., Etc., Etc. What does surveillance have to do with "Cruel and Unusual Punishment." Check out Furman v. Georgia, one of the controlling cases in US jurisprudence for 8th Amendment violations. Please give me one credible source where legitimate surveillance of a suspect in a crime was found to be, and I will quote you here, "potentially illegal as well, harassment?)"
  7. From a criminal investigation perspective, this is fairly inexcusable. Anyone facing charges of this nature who has ties to a foreign nation wouldn't ordinarily be left so "free" top do so.
  8. Public official are always held to a higher standard. That's always the way it's going to be. No one might be all that surprised that a "stockbroker" took advantage of this women, but the thought of a FF or a LEO doing, that's a harder concept to accept, and as a result, is seen by some as more newsworthy. Speaking only for myself, I have no problem with being held to a higher standard.
  9. While I also don't know the details of what transpired, nor do I care, I think everyone forgets one thing. This is a private board. Participation by any and all members is at the sole discretion of the board’s owner/operator/staff. The have the absolute right to ban/censor/limit any discussions/topics/etc. While I not always agreed with the actions taken on particular topics in the past, I am conscious of the fact that we use this board with the consent of the operators. The concepts that a private board is censored dosen’t hold much water. As with any private organization, if you don't like the rules, you essentially have two options. Find another board or start your own. I can only imagine a significant amount of work went into developing this board, and I'm sure you'll find out exactly how much if you try and start your own.
  10. My agency does not use civilian medics, rather sworn personnel. Most of whom also practice actual/active EMS on the side. I personally prefer it that way, but that's just me.
  11. Why would FD/EMS vehicles seek to be "quasi-unmarked"?
  12. If memory serves me right, we've already had an entire thread/discussion on this? I don't think anything has changed since, so not sure what could be added to the debate.
  13. http://www.aolnews.com/2011/02/17/firefighter-refused-call-to-giffords-shooting/?icid=maing%7Cmain5%7Cdl3%7Csec3_lnk1%7C44860 All I can say is, wow!
  14. While the article, like most articles, is light on certain details, if he refused to respond because of his political beliefs, I find that very disturbing. The fact that he retired two days later speaks volumes.
  15. Not that unusual actually. There are some tangible benefits that are positive cash flow by participating in agreements like this.
  16. That seems contradictory. If there are so many legal issues present, why is a lawsuit not the avenue to pursue?
  17. Having been involved in a number of high-profile and/or MCI incidents from both the EMS and LE perspectives, this time-line doesn't seem troublesome at all. The one interesting quote that did stick out for me was: It is not common practice with multiple callers all indicating multiple GSW victims that maybe the information was credible enough to start out additional resources before actually getting boots on the ground? Seems like something I would be okay with if the sheer numbers were being relayed to me while I was responding.

  19. Any of our Dutchess County members know if DCC typically offers a Summer term Medic Refresher? I checked, but their Summer schedule does not appear to be released yet. Thanks in advance...
  20. Bill, did LifeNet transport to St. Francis or Valhalla?
  21. Generally no, but accredited media can make a motion to do so (which is generally always denied.)
  22. Often, when heads roll, it is the Agency Executive. That's where the buck traditionally stops. Why is there no heat on the actual Fire Commissioner himself? Instead, the blame is placed at the feet of a subordinate?
