  1. Great news. Fry him indeed. I still don't understand how the first Jury could only reach a verdict on 16 of their 17 counts? I'm curious what their qualm was about that last charge.
  2. Yes, the NYSP does currently use unmarked vehicles, even for routine traffic enforcement.
  3. Do you know how much influence unions have in GEORGIA? On a quasi unrelated note, when I was sent to Louisiana after Katrina, you guys wouldn't believe the types of jobs that inmates did for the State. It's a whole different mindset down there. Here's an example. There was one inmate, a convicted murderer (some kind of love triangle thing), who lived in the motor pool. He had his own apartment there. His full time job was vehicle repairs. He had been doing that for them for years. He was the nicest guy and he had a great relationship with the guys who worked out of that facility. Not saying that would work up here, but you have to understand, things are done differently in the south. They've been done like that for a long time, and it seems to work for them. They see it as a "win-win". The State gets free, skilled labor, and the inmates get a cushy gig that brings with it a lot of perks. To each his own, in a way.
  4. Now I'm getting confused. It appeared to me in your first post above, you stated you are a current CFR, that's how you "know it exists". In your second post above, you seem to acknowledge JJB531's observation that it doesn't actually exist? Could you clarify?
  5. Sorry NurseMedic, I posted before getting to your reply. No intent to raise some of the same points you already covered.
  6. So, if the want ad were posted in the New York Times or even EMTBravo.com, no nefarious characters would have access to it? Not sure where you’re going with this. When recruiting you post in all types of places and mediums. “Criminals” as you say can’t actually be weeded out until they reach the interview stage or the background investigation, as the case may be. Personally, I've found Craigslist a great place to unload some unwanted stuff. Quite a few people use CL as an active online marketplace.
  7. Really? If I were you, I'd be more appalled that I wasn't providing the very best service as efficiently as possible. I'd be less appalled that someone is working on improving the situation.
  8. Me too. I've done it before too. The (+) sign is too close to the actual number to check out who previously rep'd.
  9. Those posts of helicopper which you seem to suggest he says these don't apply to him are hardly that. In the first one you cite, he clearly attributes the decision to the President. In the second, he asks who needs to give the city authorization. And in the third, he points out, correctly, that no one has cited any specific laws governing these types of actions. (And, still no one has to this point.)
  10. Yes, really. Nobody brought any legal facts except the reference to NYS PL Article 35. If your referring to your own post, you merely brought a quote. While it may be entirely accurate, and I suspect it is, it is only tangentially related to the topic. Your article discusses not who might be doing the actually shooting down, rather who is giving the orders. And I didn't see anyone from Law Enforcement state "this does not apply to them." (Could you point that post out to us?)
  11. This will never work in NY. I'm physically unable to drive my Troop car at 45-55 on a highway.
  12. All makes sense efdcapt115. Seems everyday this storyline comes out, just a different city each time. As for the idea that backing out of the M/A system will lead to lawsuits, that's unlikely unless they use a subscriber system, which I'm not aware of anyone in NY using. If not that, the City generally has no obligation to its constitutes, from a civil tort perspective anyway, making them fairly untouchable in that respect.
  13. Does the law, as it relates to the justifiable use of deadly physical force take into account whether it's an automobile headed toward a crowd of kindergartners or an airplane flying over populated communities?
  14. NYS AG Opinions are non-binding on NYC, so it would literally be just that, an opinion. But in general, if we all take off our tinfoil hats for a second, does anyone honestly believe NYPD would move forward with something like this in absence of the federal governments consent? And if they actually did do that on thier own, would they brag about it on national television?
  15. As you know Chris, when any inherently technical legal issue arises, we see 100% opinion and rumor, and generally no facts.
  16. How (or why) can you concurrently hold both CFR and EMT certifications? That seems strange to me. Do other states allow you to hold multiple different levels of EMS certification? And why would Massachusetts not "officially" recognize CFR in the protocols, yet continue to recognize it as a level of certification? Now I can see why their officials had such a poor handle on certifications in light of the recent scandals.
  17. Odds are these are generally going to be two different groups of people, so unlikely they will be forced to choose between the "heart attack" and "helping animals". Not everyone is cut out for EMS (or FF and LE for that matter.) This just seems like another option for those who wish to volunteer.
  18. Just to clarify, there is a central PSAP for Cell 911. From there, based on information to the caller provides, it is forwarded to one of the 50 individual PSAP's by landline. With current technology, cell calls that come in, come in at a certain "Phase", which dictates if the 911 operator can pinpoint the caller to a degree of a few meters or something more broad, such as a few miles. The problem with Stony Point is, some of the closet, unimpeded cell towers are inevitably going to be in the Garrison/Peekskill/Cortlandt area. It's a straight, line-of-sight shot across the Hudson. Easier for that roaming cell signal to latch onto those towers, versus going inland into Rockland County. I say some, not all.
  19. Route 6 and Lexington is a fantastically central location. By way of Route 6 (east/west) and Lexington Ave (north/south), you really couldn't pick a better spot even if you tried.
  20. I think what makes Bad Box, as well some of our other very knowledgeable members, (BNechis, helicopper and efdcapt115 all come to mind) is, they are very knowledgeable, and they can convey that knowledge effectively. We can all agree, being knowledgeable is just half the battle, being able to relay that knowledge is the key. Bad Box, and these others, can articulate their points effectively and use them as teaching and knowledge sharing opportunities. As opposed to other leaders who may have all the answers, but they alienate those they are imparting their knowledge on. Whether it be because of ego, attitude, or just a complete lack of social skills, that knowledge gets lost. So, kudos to Bad Box, and all the others who really do all they can to build on this forum.
  21. Jack's right. That isn't a ConEd guy. I could however, see ConEd guys from where I was standing. They didn't appear to be taking part in any suppression activities.
  22. This happened to have occurred right in front of a local hospital while I was there on an unrelated matter. There were mulitple Con-Ed trucks on the scene as well. From the distance I was, I couldn't give you any more details than that.
  23. All very common sense items. Nice work for taking the initiative.
  24. Capt., Yes, I think your math makes sense. We'll probably never know the true number, but 5-10% does indeed seem reasonable. And I think we can both agree that no number, bent on Holy War, is acceptable. No one disputes that. My point was, is it reasonable to treat the other 95% as terrorists? And by treat, I mean, discriminate against them? That was the only point I was trying to convey.
  25. I don't think it's a liberal ideology. I think is reasonableness. There are, by most estimates, 1.5-1.7 billion Muslims in the world. Perhaps we can sum it up with this question: Do you believe EVERY Muslim is a extremist, bent on the killing of every America and the total destruction of the United States? If your answer is yes, well, no further discussion is necessary. By that logic, you shouldn't be wasting time posting here on Bravo. You should be out getting them before they get you! I think it is reasonable to assume that there are many Muslims out there who hate Americans, the West, Israel, etc. History has taught us as much. They would like to see great harm done to us. But do I think it's the majority of them? No, I honestly don't. Given their size, if they wanted to do most of what many here suggest they do (domination, annihilation), they probably could have done it already. I think from a law enforcement, intelligence, and public policy perspective, our time and energy are better spent in identifying true threats, as opposed to discriminating against every Muslim.
