  2. I'll grant her the right to hold the sign, go for it. But, all I ask is this. That she never call on the police for assistance. No matter what. She's on her own. You can't have it both ways. Like 10570 said, she was not protesting police brutality or something of that magnitude. She's no Gandhi or Martin Luther King, with some lofty calling. They were simply performing a valid, public safety function. So, all I ask is she never call the police, never complain about their response time, and above all else, NEVER call and complain that people are speeding in her neighborhood, or in her case, through her trailer-park.
  3. Do you have any links to applicable Pennsylvania Law on CBA's in that state for us? In New York, under the State Employment Labor Relations Act (See Sec. 704), I would argue this would not be an ULP. In general, how strong are Pennsylvania's labor laws? There are states where executives can get away with these kinds of unfair actions due to laws that favor them under "difficult economic periods."

  5. I'm sure if we do a little digging we can find it. Fraud pervades all kinds of well intentioned outfits. There are always going to weak people with a poor moral compass who get caught. Sometimes the fraud is systemic throughout an agency, sometimes, it's the work of a single bad apple in an organization. The key is, all charities, unions and groups, whether career, volunteer, or non-emergency service related, should be forthcoming about their fundraisers and donation drives. It should always be clear to the giving party exactly where the money is going.

  7. Well, can we probably agree that all the members of this forum do not drive by there regularly? So, Prucha, I for one appreciate the note. A lot of jumping all over people recently for posting pretty innocuous comments and questions. What gives?
  8. They are unlawful, but I've never seen any enforcement. I don't even think a majority of funeral homes use them.
  9. Well, I finally have to give you credit. Your posts are typically ill-informed, incomplete, and in most cases, just plagiarized. But, now your a self-admitted bigot. And on top of it, your incensed that more of us aren't as bigoted. Classic.
  10. It was a joke. Lighten up, you'll live longer! :-)
  11. That echos one of the quote made by someone commenting on the story. It said something along the lines of "I'd be out of jail before my son was out of the hospital."
  12. Just to clarify, these actions would have been clearly permissible under New York State law which has a provision for just this type of crime. See PL 35.15 ( 2 )( b )
  13. Take a look at this story. A horrible commentary on today's youth in my opinion. And it happened right here in New York. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20120620/NEWS01/306200023/Greece-bus-monitor-bullying-video?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Home On the bright side, there seems to be an outpouring of support for this poor woman, including a fund set up through Indiegogo, which had set a goal of $5,000 to send this woman on a vacation. So far, it is at nearly $70,000 and rising, hopefully assuring this woman an early retirement. http://www.indiegogo...hklein?a=720087
  14. Kinda the point of this forum, isn't it?
  15. Well, imagine the headline, "Reckless Ambulance Driver Speeds Through Tolls, Hits and Kills DOT Worker/Toll Collector."
  16. Exactly. Once again, no one wants to take any personal responsibility. We can debate the merits of their system (again), but that fact remains, that's how things work down there. You can either choose to participate or choose to decline. But, you can't complain about it after the fact because you rolled the dice and came up short.
  17. There has been a few threads on this. Interesting that the victims so openly admit being aware of the policy, but choosing to gamble anyway.
  18. This thread is fantastic. First, everyone overreacts over what now appears to be a miscommunication. Then, the proposed solutions basically include harassing the toll-takers, because let's be real, we all know they are the ones making the policies. (Let's not do something drastic like make legitimate contact with the powers that be and explain why this is a bad policy.) Then if that doesn't work, we advocate just blowing through the toll plazas. No big deal there, so a DOT worker or two gets blasted. No harm, no foul. Or maybe just destroy some DOT equipment. Just brilliant. Let's keep these good ideas coming!
  19. Would it be fair to characterize this man's complaint as being analogous to a career FF (or LEO) who wishes to remain an active employee, but doesn't want to be part of the underlying Union because he doesn't agree with it's fundraising/spending?
  20. You know the joke: "A liberal, a moderate, and a conservative walk into a bar, and the bartender says, hi Mitt" I don't think a man who drastically alters his beliefs based on his audience at any given moment, is steeped deeply in values and integrity.
  21. Statistically, it's still safer then many of your other daily activities.
  22. I guess I just don't see it. On occasion I can follow your critiques of VFD's, but I don't see much to this one.
  23. Forgive me, as I don't participate in fire department activities of any sort, but this article seems to be missing something. By the complainant's own admissions, he is in no way forced to participate in the activities he deplores. Edit: Quote added.
  24. Agreed, probably not the best candidate either party can put forward, but all things being equal, I'm voting Obama.
