  1. Not really enough info in your post to answer your question. Did the person actually claim any injury? If you never interacted with the patient, how can you state he's "highly intoxicated"? We need more details before offering an opinion.
  2. I personally disagree. I do feel it's fair that if your going to include a per diem penalty for running long, it's only fair to include a per diem bonus for getting it done early.
  3. WMC isn't required to have them in-house either and often doesn't, they must just be able to respond within 30 minutes, per 10 NYCRR. Area Trauma Centers (such as SFH) are also required to have maxillofacial surgeons available within the same 30 minute time frame. Are you alleging that SFH cannot provide specialty back-up as required by law? If so, that should be investigated.
  4. Do you make transport decisions based on your hypothetical understanding of what staffing trauma centers may or may not have on any given day???
  5. Fell from a standing position and required Medevac? Or fell from some elevated platform?
  6. Or, and I know I'm going out on a limb here, just don't drive like an 'hole at all.
  7. Let's not discount the K9 in this case. I mean, I personally think my dogs are a lot brighter then many people I know in Emergency Services.
  8. How is that "not good"? It seems like someone is holding them accoutable.
  9. AMBER Alert Guidelines A Law Enforcement Agency with an inquiry about an AMBER Alert can contact the NYSP Special Victims Unit through the State Police 24/7 Communications Section at 518-457-6811. The New York State AMBER Alert Plan can be activated when an investigating law enforcement agency has reasonable cause to believe that: An abduction of a child (under the age of 18) has occurred, and The child is believed to be in danger of serious bodily harm or death, either due to the actions of another or due to a proven mental or physical condition. Even if formal activation criteria have been met, activation may be impractical if available information is not specific enough and/or an extended period of time passed since the disappearance. For example, an AMBER Alert specifying involvement of a white van (without a license plate number) could actually hinder an investigation by causing the public to inundate police agencies with possible sightings. Notes: "Reasonable Cause to Believe" means that from eyewitness accounts, OR by eliminating other possibilities, your investigation leads you to believe that a child has been abducted. Familial abductions qualify only if a child is endangered by the actions of the abducting family member. Whenever an AMBER Alert request does not meet activation criteria, requesting agencies are referred to other NYSP investigative resources and to the NYS DCJS Missing Persons Clearinghouse (MPC) for possible issuance of a Missing Child/College Student Alert.
  10. It is fun, as long as it wasn't your house that caught fire and your pets that died.
  11. Dutchess Community College, Rockland Community College, and Mobile Life Support also all have classes fairly regularly.
  12. First, typically road closures are the prerogative of DOT or the municipality, not the PD. Second, I'm not sure how CFD was unaware of this, as I've personally seen it on the highway variable message boards for a good two to three weeks now, including one right on Route 9 in Croton proper.
  13. Why would you need a field programmable radio to communicate with aircraft? If your LZ Command, they can just use any frequency you already have. If your just a buff, any scanner can monitor all those frequencies, no?
  14. Here is some data from 2010, not sure if there is something more recent available. http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/2010/City_crime_rate_2010-2011_hightolow.pdf Comes in second, just missing the top spot.
  15. The "H" designation plates simply mean that they will be put out in the field for trial and testing and to gauge feedback. The will be rotated around to different stations and barracks. If they decide to move forward with making them permanent, they will be re-designated with plates consistent with the troops that are sent to.
  16. OK, we're listening. In your (law enforcement-experienced) opinion, what exactly "is not right"?

  19. Yes, I completely agree. That's what prompted me to ask for the source of that $3,000 figure. I suspect the cost, per student, is in the tens of thousands of dollars, in addition to their salary.
  20. And, they are. As I said, I live near KJ and they all have the Part 800 stickers. I see them daily.
  21. At the risk of beating a dead horse, an agency CAN, if they so choose, issue RLS to EVERY EMT and Medic in the agency. Is it good policy, no, but from a strictly legal standpoint, it can be done.
  22. To say a Police Commissioner has "NO" authority is overly broad and factually incorrect in many agencies. If your comparing a Police Commissioner to a Board of Fire Commissioners of a VFD, that's apples and oranges.
  23. Whether we agree with those choices or not it is their right. The article stated it was a diabetic emergency which typically is a legitimate emergency.
