Break into a certain house in Westchester and your still getting 17 9mm beans center mass. All this does is turn many law abiding citizens into felons. Typical NY liberal BULLSHIT, and still a gun/rifle has yet to kill anyone...

    A few questions for you.
    1) what is an "assault weapon"?
    2) what are all the law abiding citizens who own weapons that have magazines with 10 rounds (or11, 12 or 13) supposed to do with their guns now? Magazines that hold 7 rounds don't exist. This law makes law abiding citizens instant criminals. How does that help?
This legislation is simply feel good political junk. There were laws in place before Newtown. Did the law against THEFT stop Lanza? How about the law against BREAKING AND ENTERING? Oh, and don't we have laws against MURDER? Did any of those laws stop him? NO. Not one.
I don't understand how you think new laws will stop people like him? He obtained the guns illegally. Why do you think restricting me will prevent this from happening again?

The reason is that some FD's use 33.96MHz for pager activation. The same FD uses 46.26MHz for apparatus response. So, if a member is only monitoring 46.26MHz (or doesn' have a pager) he can hear the dispatch on 46.26MHz.
The original premise for the 33.96MHz frequency was to get FD's off of 46.26MHz so that dispatch tones would not interfere with Fire Response on 46.26MHz. It never caught on the way it should have.

You're absolutely right BFD, the firearm itself is not the end-all, say-all; more significant is the hands that possess that firearm. A firearm in the hands of an individual who is proficient in its use can change the course of events with just one well placed round. When engaging an armed individual, the most effective way to end the fight is by placing accurate and effective gunfire on the perpetrator... the firearm itself might as well be a water gun if you can't utilze it to its maximum effectiveness through consistent and continual training.
I sometimes shake my head at Police Officers who go to the range twice a year for on-the-job qualifications and don't bother training on their own the rest of the year. When the bell rings and you're engaging an armed perp in a gunfight, you just entered the big leagues. You think Major League baseball players go to the batting cage twice a year? PGA golfers go to the driving range twice a year? I never understood the rationale of going to the range just twice a year.
If you're legally allowed to possess a firearm it's "better to have and not need, then to need and not have".

With the hurricane expecting to reach a Cat 1 or 2 when it makes land fall, coastal communities can expect anywhere from 0-6ft of storm surge along with significant rainfall. Make sure your pumps, saws and any other mechanical equipment you need are gased, oiled, and ready to run.
If your department is going to run flood water evacuations, or other types of water rescues without calling for a water rescue team, be sure to follow the following guidelines (and by no means take this as "Ok, we're good to go for flood water and swift water response").
    - NO turnout gear in or around the water - turnout gear, especially pants and boots WILL DROWN YOU. It is impossible to kick and try and stay afloat wearing it.
    - Wear your life jacket anytime you are within 6 feet of water.
    - Do not wear neoprene rescue suits in flood waters, this includes ice rescue suits. Gas and other petroleum based products that are found floating in the flood waters will break down your suit eventually reaching your skin giving you a nasty burn. They also not water tight, leaving room for water contaminated with sewer waste, oils, and other nasty stuff to get inside the suit and fester up against your skin for the duration of you wearing it.
    - Always walk in flood waters with a prod pole that reaches feet in front of you (not directly in front of where you are standing), much like sounding the floor when VESing a room. Manhole covers, sewer drain lids and other items will be forcefully removed by the water, leaving a hole in the road filled with downward flowing water. You will get sucked in, and you will drown; it has happened many times before and a fireman recently drowned in Colorado.
    - Swift water constitutes any water moving faster then 1kts.
    - Remember the adage of "REACH, THROW, ROW. GO." Any rescue where we can stay warm and dry, is the most successful type. If you are unsure, call for a swift water team, in fact call for the swift water team anyways, it is far better to have them in route, then realizing 20 minutes down the line you need them in rapidly rising waters.. They have the training and knowledge on how to preform this most difficult type of rescue. The GO portion, should only be performed by individuals who reach the Technical or Operational level of swift water. Any member can stand on the shore and throw a rope, or shove a pike pole to the individual. DO NOT tie your entry team off to a rope that is tied to a shore, if they slip, they will be pulled under water by force and drown.
Again, this is by no means a training module or any release to say you are good to go for swift or flood water rescue. Use this as an awareness tool.

  12. 7586 liked a post in a topic in Should A VAC Line Officer Have Medical Training?
Why are we even talking about this? How could one expected to be a line officer with no training. A VAC line officer's priorities include supervising their EMTs. How could you supervise them if you don't have any medical training.
This is a terrible topic, lets use some common sense please.
