  1. I would also like to "relax" with some vecuronium.......
  2. The service I am with requires all 12 leads to be transmitted to the ED. We initate a "code STEMI" if we see one, letting us by-pass the ED and go directly to the cath lab. As for altering treatment; I will withhold any NTG with indication of a right sided infarct until I have IV access established. The fire department I work for also uses LP-12's and just purchased a LP-15.
  3. Rock Hill South Carolina 6062 runs.
  4. The City of Rock Hill South Carolina is building a new station and adding one engine company, I think they are starting interviews in November. www.cityofrockhill.com We are just south of Charlotte NC. Piedmont EMS is also always hiring (looking for paramedics now) They are adding another truck during the day. Pay for fire is lower here as are most of the jobs down here but the cost of living is low also. EMS jobs I think pay better here from what I have heard from my friends up in Dutchess County. I moved down here 15 years ago & love it. RHFD runs 5 Engines and to Ladders. If I can help you any please let me know.
  5. Whats up with the small suction lines to the attack engine. Not that I can say anything as we don't carry any suction hose down here!
  6. Ya know Scott, I'm glad I moved south to follow the career thing, y'all work too much up there! Nice job!
  7. We have 3 Engines and 1 Ladder and now we are buying Seagrave! I don't want to cast blame but... Two of the engines are twins, one is fine the other bounces so bad you get nauseated riding in it. The ladder had a host of issues. The main was the steering axle being oveloaded, cracked cross members, loose frame bolts & the tie rod ends rubbing on the tires. They installed a shorter tie rod and added counter weight to the rear of the truck. Just what a 78,000 lb truck needs is more weight added to it! They finally replaced the front axle and springs to meet the load on the axle with the truck being out of service for a few months (as I recall). All the trucks have Sparten chassis. The scale sheets for the engines show a weight balance of 50% front & rear. I'm no engineer but I would think the rear axle should carry more weight than the front, could be why the truck rides so bad.
  8. Well our 88 was just replaced and moved to reserve. Now I'm on the "old" one 94' that is being replaced this year. With the 88 & 91 in reserve we were able to get rid of the open cab Ford cab over, it was a very hot ride in the summer! Me and Dad passed through Pine Glenn some time in the 80's when old 8 was still there. I don't complain about our trucks much, the department in Texas I belonged to built 5 of their 7 Engines most housed in single bay stations with pad locks on the roll up door! Not much money there!
  9. Dave, do they still have the Ford from East Fishkill? Old Engine 8?
  10. I like my screen name better than my real name! How do you plan to verify the users name? This name may be mine, or perhaps its not. You guys in East Fishkill can verify with my father at the 3 house. Patrick Quinn Rock Hill Fire Department Rock Hill, SC
  11. Rock Hill City Fire ran 4102 Calls for the year.
  12. Best of luck to y'all, it was a nice 78 degrees here today. Almost in the 80s all week!
  13. Photounit, EFFD car two at the time was Howard Travis, I also see the current Chief of station three Phil Riccata (spelling). Thinking of the past I remember assisting NKFD at a structure fire on 376 back in the mid 80s, I rode in with then Chief Fran Daniels, I remember you humping an inch and a half to the front door with your cammeras swinging from your side!
  14. I'm not quite sure what negative impact would be caused by EMT-B's taking a BGL would have on patients? In South Carolina that is the standard of care, BGL on everything! All levels can take a BGL here, but then again they can also intubate according to local protocols. As far as patient assessment, a patient with altered mental status with a history of diabetes does not automaticly get oral glucose, D50w or D5w for that matter. Check the BGL, firts to have a baseline to check your intervention (trending) and I myself would not want to administer D50w to a patient who is having a stroke. My medical control would not like it either! As I understand in New York your basics are alowed to administer albuterol, I would be more concerned about the improper drug administration then someone taking a BGL. Just my opinion.
  15. Hello, My name is Patrick and I am a firefighter NREMT-I with the Rock Hill fire Department in Rock Hill, South Carolina(just south of Charlotte NC). Currently in paramedic school. I was a volunteer with the East Fishkill Fire Department, where my father is still active, before moving south in the early 90s. I really enjoy the web site and keeping up on things where I used to live. If you have any questions about EMS & fire down south please let me know. Patrick
