Just got off the phone with them, as of now they don't have any specifics like what hospitals you can do labs at, or which (if not both) campus it will be held. She took down my name, address, phone #, & e-mail address and told me that they will be releasing more information shortly, but didn't have a time estimate. Not the LA County Engine, but a few months ago the City of Middletown FD (Orange) demo'd a LA County Tiller. I got a chance to look it over while it was parked at a neighboring FH, where the area rep is a member, it was laid out very well, and minus the pump I could see the truck as a great addition to City of Middletown.

It wasn't an emergency, but we once used a small airbag to pop out a dent on the side of a members truck. Wasn't perfect, but cheap, and the probies that were there got a good lesson on the set-up and operation of the airbags.

Same here in Orange County, each alarm assignment is set up to the specs of each department. I know in my district, our 2nd alarm assignment brings in less than some departments "working fire dispatch". With the exception of the specialty boxes (the 2 schools) a 2nd alarm assignment in my district only gets you a FAST, EMS, FI's, Power Co., & a County Coordinatior to the scene, and 2 engines (or engine & tanker on some boxes) to standby. Keep in mind our 1st alarm assignment is only our department (3 engines, 1 truck, & 1 tanker) and thats if they're all in service and get manned. 3rd alarm assignment is no better. 2 standby companies move up, and Coldenham's rescue is added for the cascade to the scene. And the standby companies get back filled. So example. "3rd Alarm" in the center of our village only has 5 engines, 1 truck, 1 rescue, 1 tanker, & a FAST. Again thats if nothing is out of service, and every suppression piece rolls. Very much differientiates from one of our neighboring departments, who on the first alarm in the village for any reported structure fire has thier equipment (3 engines, & 1 truck), m/a FAST, m/a truck, & m/a engine to the scene. and the second alarm bring an add'l engine, rescue, & truck to the scene, along with the little goodies (EMS, FI, Power Co, ect.). Right there there 2nd alarm has the same as our "3rd alarm".

This happened in my district back in August of 06, we we responded to a fire in 'vacant' residential structure. Fire originated in a bedroom on the second floor, after the fire was knocked & the FI's started doing thier thing they found that the place was being used by someone for pot growing. I rode the seat on the 2nd due, and in the end I had to fill out a contamination report. The fire was only a few days before I needed to take a drug test for Mobile Life, so I had to bring a letter from my chief, & a copy of the contamination report to the HR director. Nothing came up on the test, but we were able to cover all bases as a precaution.

Good luck to both NDP & Alamo with the merger. Hope it is all done properly, no one looses out on their jobs, and towns remain covered. On a side note, at the request of the City of Pok FD, MLSS will have City 911 in the radios as of 1/1/08, and City 911 will have tones programed in the console for MLSS. Although Alamo will remain primary, with the opening of our new station on South Ave., it opens up the possibilities for a closer back up. I hope the management @ Alamo/NDP sees this and steps up their coverage in the city, it could only benefit them and the citizens of the city. p.s. Majority of the patients KJEMS transports from Orange County go to Hackensack, no matter what the emergency. Doesn't surprise me 1 bit for them to do this. Weather was shitty all day here, so the medivac's were down, still no reason to bypass Good Sam.

They use the words employee and employer, so it again brings to question are volunteers employees?

At the request of the hospital as of last week no Mobile Life Support employees are allowed to smoke within sight of either ORMC campus while working.

Amen to that. First M/A fire with our new engine, we were filling tankers & the 5" hose blew open. Had the 5" discharge been on the drivers side would've done some serious damage.

The only thing I can think of coming into St. Lukes is MAYBE for the NICU. I work for Mobile Life, I've done many transports out of there, the only thing I've ever brought in (other than little stuff from Cornwall & 911 Calls) were NICU transports. I've done them from Horton (Middletown), St. Anthony's (Warwick), & Catskill Regional (Harris).

If I'm not mistaken, Mobile Life is the only RSI approved agency in the HV Region right now.

In Ulster County they still cover Clintondale & Highland as Primary EMS. Modena, Gardiner, Esopus, & Milton as the ALS provider.

Ulster County is similar in the fact that the 1st 2 #'s are the department #, however there is no control of the 3rd & 4th #'s. ie. Wallkill 64-25 is a heavy rescue Walker Valley 63-25 is a tanker Like Long Island Orange County also numbers via battalion. 3 digit # with the first being your battalion. ie. OC Batt. 2 includes: Coldenham Maybrook Montgomery Pine Bush Walden Bullville OC Airport Coldenham apparatus is 200-208 Maybrook 209-218 Montgomery 219-225 Pine Bush 226-235 Walden 236-246 Bullville 247-255 OC Airport 260

There has been some rumor that once the new Orange Regional Medical Center is built they may attempt to become a level 2 TC. I believe Catskill Regional Medical Center, home to the new Life Net 7-5, is very close to becoming a level 2 TC.

Kerhonkson-Accord FAS is the only 911 ESA does in Ulster County as primary ALS. They have a sub-station out there, and they rent a garage across from City of Kingston Fire HQ, near The Kingston Hospital, where they do some transports. They originally tried to pick up everything Alamo dropped when they reduced their Ulster Co. Division, K-AFAS were the only ones to follow, everyone else went to Mobile Life exclusively.
