I just came back, there was a employee preview day this afternoon. I am no train Buff but it is pretty cool. There are Sleeper cars on one track, and the other set of cars on the other side of the platform. the hallways are very narrow, but very impressive from what we have today Chris

I could be reading into this the wrong way but here are my observations: As a Yonkers resident I am reading local 628's website and am a little confused. What is the city plan on cutting to the fire department? Are the cuts, manpower layoff's, closing fire houses, and not doing EMS response? The website is very vague about what the actual problem's are, another point to add how do you want me to contact the mayors office and city council members when I don't know that the exact problem is. thanks Chris

When I went to UNH I didn't go the Live in FF route, From what I have read this looks like a great program. I was back on the UNH campus Last month for the first time in about 10 years and a lot of stuff had changed since I left in 2002. Chris

the media is all about getting ratings. Also I don't know if this was on the news but there were 19 people wounded in Chi town over night here is the link as per cbs: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-57500026-504083/19-people-wounded-in-chicago-shooting-attacks-overnight-including-13-within-30-minutes-police-say/ Like Izzy stated if this wasn't by the E.S.B. it wouldn't get that much media attention. Was Listening to O & A this morning and they were playing clips from the news. These reports ask the most stupid questions to try and get that "sound byte". Also they have to add in the graphics and ominous music too.

Saw this on the city of Yonkers website that they started on the 13th of august its "Yonkers Controls Spending" to be more transparent within the city. From the looks of it, Some of the "issues" on the website has to do with the YFD and overtime etc. Here is the link to the site: http://www.yonkersco....com/index.htm Chris

When I left the city they passed the residency bill to with current employee's with over 2 years can move outside the city, however you had to pay the 1127 tax. However for new employee's that get hired off the street you need to get city residency with 90 days of hire. (IE you get hired and have to move to the city), Good luck Chris

With the IFD situation about donations to the fire company, I am going to ask this question to other Volunteer fire departments as follows: Besides operating budgets to run a fire department, Where does the money your department gets from "donations" used for? (Ie fund drive etc) Also does your fire department/ district "open up" your books to the community??? Chris

I have been reading the post's still and it seems that people are beating this like a dead horse. I have to say when I was with the IFD There are many standup guys (IE Chef ruffler, and the past chiefs). Can we please move on to something else??? Chris Moran ex-IFD member 1996-2007

Smokey Joe: I am not missing the point. There are (2) issues that are going on on this message board about the patch article. The 1st one is between the following people: The village, the fire department, and with Nick. Everyone can post all they what about the law should be this or that and give your opinion on what should go down But, to resolve the issue at hand those are the 3 players. The second issue is people are talking about "where the money" is going about donating money to the fire department. This issue is not only an IFD issue but any volunteer fire department issue. You can't tell me that every fire department uses there money for firematic stuff. You have wet-downs, annual dinners, and other stuff that clearly aren't "training or buying equipment" If you want to change this law on the books then go talk to your elected officials The reason why any IFD member probably will not post about the subject is due to most likely having a lawyer and once the case gets settled in a court room not in the court of public opinion That is my 2 cents Chris

I tried to search the forums to see if anyone else has put anything up but I couldn't find anything. I am an a registered independent and are there sites out there that Just give the facts about the candidates and not (pro republican or dem). Also I feel that any election is the "lesser or two evils" Since we all are in the public safety industry who do you plan to vote for? Chris

Very nice looking truck, Question to ask since I haven't used tankers the Grey metal boxes on the side they come down on the ground like a portable pool and it gets filled up by the discharges on the side of the truck? Then you would draft out of that "pool" correct? Chris

To quote the artilce from lohud: "The new budget proposal also restores $560,000 to the Yonkers Public Library, allowing it to stay open Saturdays and evenings. Erich Schoen, president of the Friends of the Yonkers Public Library, called the restoration “good news” today but said the city will likely have to issue bonds to purchase new books that the library sorely needs. “We applaud the mayor and the council for putting money back in,” Schoen said. “In this economy, people need the latest library services.” In my opinion I would much rather have seen more money go to "public Safety" then making sure the public Library can be open on saturday's. will the yonkers public Library come to your house when there is an emergency? The last time I steped foot in a library was in college over 10 years ago. chris

My old fire department had a monthly calender that was sent out every month of what was going on. (ie Training was the 1st and 3rd tuesday of the month). If you want you can use google Calender which is free and then you can "share it" with other people of email it to them. Also too you can do a pager test and remind people of the trainings for the week Good Luck Chris
