Hudsons Ribs & Fish - Rt. 9, Fishkill http://www.hudsonsribsandfish.com/food.htm Great ribs, steaks & seafood! Casa Rina of Thornwood - 886 Commerce St., Thornwood (near the Thornwood Diner). http://www.casarinarestaurant.com/ Excellent Italian dishes. I recommend going with one of the "complete dinners." You get your choice of an appetizer, soup or salad, entree & dessert. Most "complete dinners" are around $20, depending on your entree selection. Four Doors Down - 265 Tate Avenue, Buchanan http://www.fourdoorsdown.com/ Main Street Steakhouse - 175 Main St., Ossining http://www.mainstreetsteakhouse.com/ Guida's Italian Restaurant - 199 Main St. (right off of South Highland Ave.), Ossining (914) 941-2662 Rhodes North Tavern - Rt. 17 North, Sloatsburg http://www.rhodesnorth.com/ This place may not be that close, but definatley a great one! You can drive through 7 Lakes Drive, which is beautiful all year round, to get to Rt. 17. Casa De Nicola - 441 Albany Post Rd., Croton http://www.townlink.com/casadenicola/ Great Italian food & a nice atmosphere too.

White Castle is nasty...leave that crap in the ghetto lol! All they are are belly bombers lol. This is the 1st i'm hearing of a Kenny Rogers opening in the Town Center, but i did finally hear about the Nathans lol. Man, Mohegan is becomming a food paradise! Excuse me for asking, but what the hell is Kenny Rogers (besides a crappy singer/actor)? Is it a chicken place? Any word on the Outback? I too had heard they were gonna put one in the old 7-Star Diner. That would be an awesome addition to that area! The Aussie cheese fries are amazing! I had also heard awhile back that there was talk of a TGI Fridays going in the Beach shopping center on the Peekskill/Mohegan border. With the incredible business that Applebees (Cortlandt Town Center) & Chilis (Somers Commons) does, an Outback and/or Fridays would do excellent anywhere in this area. As far as Delis in the Mohegan area, i'm with CG206 on the Tuscon Market (Rt. 202). Their food is excellent & always fresh. They might be a bit pricey, but well worth it IMO. As EMSwhitecloud stated, JV Hot Bagels is an awesome breakfast stop for kick-a$$ bagels. I believe there are 2 locations, one on Lee Blvd. & the other (JV Hot Bagels 2) is on Rt. 132. Out of all the food places mentioned, x635 hit it on the head with Quiznos!!! Man do i love that place! I truly wish they'd start opening some Quiznos in this area, instead of Subway's. The only Quiznos i know of is in the Westchester (food court) in White Plains. Whenever i am down there, i always have to go and get the italian sandwich mmm. There is a Quiznos not far from my Girlfriends apartment in New Brunswick, NJ, and since i have found it, i have been addicted lol!

WAS, i believe they only do a 1st-Response type deal on the campus. And yes, they still have an ambulance, 48B1. They (usually) do not do any 911 transports. All of their Firefighters still have to be EMT's and keep up their cert. The "new" nursing facility, the New York State Nursing home, or whatever it is called, is totally covered by CVAC & CRP. CVAC does all other 911 runs on the campus as well.

The I-Page definatley has its pro's & con's, like anything else. As many of you have said, you will sometimes receieve a page much later than you should. I've gone on calls, returned to the firehouse & completed paperwork when the I-Pages have come over. I NEVER rely 100% on the I-Page system. A nice secondary alert device, but not 100% reliable at all. Someone said that they receive 2 pages for EVERY call, but i haven't seen this too much. I've only received 2 pages for EMS calls because they include EVERYTHING (i.e. nature, sex, age, location). Also, if there is a decent size working fire with re-locations and such you may get more than one text page. But as Irishfirefighter said, as with normal text-pages, you will receive the I-Pages almost anywhere! A bunch of our guys were down in Ocala, Florida checking on the process of our E-One Utilty & they got the I-Pages for a structure fire in Montrose at about 3:30am (we went m/a w/E161 & U12)! The downside is that if you are in a dead-zone, you obviously will not receive the I-Page until you regain service on your phone.

Final 3rd Watch episode was horrible, period! Had to be the worst ever, IMO. 3rd Watch was always far-fetched, but this took it way too far lol! I will admit that i didn't see it coming when Cruz blew herself up, but who would see that? The promotions were insane as well! Ty a Lt. in the Anti-Crime Task force??? Hasn't been on the job that long, skipping a few ranks there buddy lol? And the new kid, Finny, a Sgt. in Anti-Crime, my god, that was easy! And poor Bosco gets stuck in crappy-a$$ Bed-Sty, still on the street lol! Sorry, i just thought it was way too far fetched and horrible!

Rumor: Verplanck looking at a new ambulance, possibly to have as 83B2 & keep 83B1. Again, just a rumor. But i did see a demo ambulance (possibly PL Custom) driving into Buchanan from Verplanck.

Buchanan Marine-26 is an approximately 17' bow-rider with a portable pump on-board. Aside from the pump, it doesn't carry much equipment on it, aside form radios. The boat is kept on a trailer behind our HQ. If it is requested, the boat is towed by our Rescue truck (R-26) to our local boat ramp where it will be deployed. The boat is kept under a pavilion, thus the reason for us not keeping more equipment on it. All the equipment that we could need is kept on the Rescue truck & will be placed on the boat if/when neccessary for a call. Our rescue carries various EMS equipment, backboards, ropes (rescue & utility), radios & an AED. Another nice thing is that we have about 10 EMTs in the Dept. 4 out of our 7 officers are EMTs & the rest of our EMTs are all pretty active members. Unfortunately, we are NEVER called, always looked over  . That is why we want some more guys to get marine training so we can let 60-Control know how many trained personnel we have, including EMTs. We can also update them on equipment that we have/carry so that they can put it into the CAD. We would like our active guys to take some water/marine/boat training & safety courses. Anyone know of any upcomming classes on this topic? The Montrose FD used to have (2) marine units & they still may. They have a small zodiac & they had a fishing boat that was donated to them. That boat was approx. 15-16' with a center console, a Boston Whaler i believe.

As some of you have said, i believe it comes down to the electronics in vehicles today. Not to mention side-impact-airbags in the doors & everywhere else! I think there may be too much liability on the end of the FD's & PD's & they won't even attempt it. I know that the Fairview FD will do auto lock-outs, or at least they used to (i found out the hard way #-o ). I was taking a final at WCC when i went there & of course i was in a rush & locked my keys in the car. I had no time to worry about until i was done with my test. I called all my friends and they were either not home or busy. I was hoping one of them could go to my house, use the garage door code & go in and get my spare set, but of course not. I finally got a hold of my friend John (aka Remember585) & he told me to call the Fairview FD. I kindly informed him that the car wasn't on fire, i just locked the keys in it lol. But i took his advise and gave them a call. They were a bit tied up so the FF at the housewatch told me to wait patiently. After about 20-30 minutes i see this station wagon pull up, yeah it was the Chiefs vehicle & man did i feel like an a$$. 2 guys got out and started talking to me and looking at the cars locking mechanism, but weren't doing much. They said they had to wait for 175 & i asked "as in Engine-175?" And sure enough, E175 pulled up with its crew & they all started going to work on my car, of course busting my chops the whole time (all in good fun). Sorry to ramble on, just thought it was a funny lock-out story. So yeah, Fairview FD used to do them (still may) and i believe some other career FD's down County may do them as well.

I'm gonna have to agree...XM is the way to go!!! My girlfriend bought it for me for my new truck, as a christmas gift. If you guys love rock/metal, than XM is totally for you! Theres gotta be about 15-20 Rock stations. Some are more geared to alternative, while others toward punk-rock. But theres a few stations that play kick a$$ rock & metal, including alot of 80's stuff! For all you sport freaks out there, you can even catch all the scores with XM! XM is great whenever, but especially for a long drive! Thers soo much to choose from, that no matter what, you're bound to find something to listen to! And if not, tune to the Comedy channels, they're funny as hell!

Totally agreed, nice post's guys. 1191stdue, nice thread to start. There are plenty of underused resources in the county, the Montrose VAFD being one of them. In Buchanan, we have used the VAFD in the past for several incidents. We have used them for a RITeam, Haz-Mat & even engine coverage/stand-by. However, in our case it helps that their Assist. Chief is one of our ex-Chiefs, one other FF is our ex-Chief & a third VAFD FF is our current Assist. Chief lol. But as stated, these guys are highly trained in all aspects of fire & rescue. They are at least EMT-B's & are all highly trained in Haz-Mat, Confined space, search/rescue & everything in between. Another underused rig in the County (in my own opinion), is Buchanan Utility-12 (Cascade). This rig has a 4-bottle system capable of filling 2 bottles at once in probably less than a minute. It also has its own compressor so we can't run out of air. It has the capability to fill all kinds of SCBA's, Scuba bottles & can fill other cascade rigs, as well as tower-ladders. It also has low-pressure lines that can be used for confined-space operations. There are a few scatered cascade rigs in the County, but unfortunately many of them can & will run out of air (and we have been called in to fill them at scenes). We will go anywhere that we are called. The rig has seating for (3) members & once it has a crew, it responds. If a Chief responds, he may take 2 or 3 additional FF's in his vehicle to assist on the scene, depending how big of an incident it is. It is a great specialty rig, but goes unused. We go to Peekskill alot, the Tri-Village (Buchanan, Montrose & Verplanck) of course & Croton, Ossining & Mohegan once in awhile. Like i said, its a great rig & anyone who has seen its capabilities will vouch for that. Another nice thing is that it is just a cascade rig, so its not like we'll be down a rescue or anything while U-12 goes m/a. Hell, we brought it up to our FAST class at Camp Smith. The instructors liked it soo much that they took pictures & were going to show it as part of a "specialty apparatus" lecture that they put on. Another thing to take into account when utilizing m/a for larger incidents, is the number of rigs that a department has. For instance, departments like Mohegan, Ossining & Elmsford have multiple aerial rigs. If you need a Truck company, you could call one of those depts. When you do that, you won't leave that district sripped of a ladder & furthermore, you won't have to call in additional m/a to cover that house! Same goes for engines. Departments like Peekskill, Mohegan, Yorktown, Ossining & Somers all have multiple engines that can be called without comprimising that districts fire coverage. Anyway, just wanted to add my two cents, thought this was an excellent thread to start! There is plenty of other under used equipment in this area as well, hopefully we hear of some on this thread!

Why John, thinking of a career change lol??? From Westchester County DES straight to City EMS? May not be a smart move...wait to see pictures first

Haha, yeah i saw one of those cars on a v&t stop on Monday night. John, i also thought it was CPD. Thought they followed the car into O-Town territory lol. Its definately a sweet looking car, real sleek with a kick a$$ light package!

First 5-10 minutes of fire ground op's are the most dangerous. Can a FASTeam realistically assemble & respond m/a in that short ammount of time? Usually not, enough said. I totally agree, at least get a TEAM assembled, they are for our own benefit. There has been plenty of discussion on this topic in the past, with many good thoughts & opinions. Some say get them at least assembled to stand-by, others say have them roll, cancel them if not needed and the list goes on. Personally, i want them there as fast as possible, just my opinion.

Here is the website for the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services. This is where you will find a list of upcoming courses being offered. It doesn't appear to be any FF-I courses scheduled for that time period as of yet. You may have to check the website quite frequently to see if any courses become available. These courses tend to fill up pretty quickly, soo keep checking & keep up on your training officer and/or Chief to find you a class! Congrats on starting with the SHFD & SHVAC, best of luck to you. Hope my info was helpful & good luck finding something! http://www.westchestergov.com/emergserv/training.htm You could also check out the Rockland County Fire Training Center. It looks like they are running a FF-I course in May/June, but that may be too early for what you're looking for. But again, keep checking this website as well to see whats being offered. Heres the website: http://www.co.rockland.ny.us/Fire/bulletin...iretraining.htm *Note: The Rockland FTC is actually not that far away. If you're in Sleepy Hollow, you would just take I-287 over the Tappen-Zee bridge into Rockland. Take I-287 to the Palisades Parkway Northbound (it should be Exit 13-N). Then take the Palisades Northbound to either Exit-12 or 13 (either one will get you there). You said you were 18, so i'm not sure what your summer plans are but...You could look into taking FF-I up at the State Fire Academy in Montour Falls. Its a bit of a hike and you'd be best off staying up there. But you may be able to find a class that runs Monday-Friday 8-4 or whatever. Heres the NYS Academy of Fire Science website: http://www.dos.state.ny.us/fire/academy.html

The Somers Fire Department is an excellent outfit, both in Fire & EMS. With Ed Byrnes as their leader, they are sure to have continued success! Congrats & best of luck to all the new (and re-newed) officers of Somers Fire & EMS!

You could try Trilex/Firefighter1 in Passaic, New Jersey. That is where i bought my Morning Pride gear. They have a huge facility & do all alterations on premise. They also have in-stock gear & even do turnout gear rentals. I went down there & got sized for my gear, the guy went over to a rack & handed me a full get of gear. I tried it on, it fit perfect. I got the gear 2 days later in the mail with my name & dept. sewn on the coat. They're great people to deal with & they know what they're doing. Heres their website: http://www.trilexcleanfiregear.com/
