  2. First off, congrats to the Peekskill FD, primarily the members of Washington Engine for pulling off an excellent Convention parade! Craig Stilwell & Pat Strang were 2 committee members that i knew personally who worked hard on this. Second, congrats to all the departments (Fire, EMS & PD), bands & other organizations that were involved in the parade! Everyone that i saw looked great from the rigs to the marchers. It was a real nice day, perfect weather for a parade, a little hot, but not too bad! Third, congrats to all the trophy winners, especially those who took home numerous ones such as Croton, Ossining & Brewster(?). Fourth lol, i had one hell of a time at Blue Mountain afterward, and i think i speak for most of us in attendance! It was a perfect place to have the "after-party" and trophy announcements! By the way, Buchanan took home 3rd Best Chiefs vehicle (1999 GMC Yukon - 2551), as well as 2nd(?) best dressed. Not to sure about the second one, i have to double-check lol. But we definately took home 2!
  3. EMSJunkie....good point, however good luck with that nowadays! With all of the under-age drinking being spotlighted in Westchester, its a lot harder. MOST bartenders/bouncers are really being dilligent on checking ID's. Theres just way too much to risk anymore. Chalk and colored pencils usually are a no-go now. A good bouncer will rub his finger accross the ID to check for that, plus they won't register through the scanners, which most bars have now. Hell i'm 23 with a Commercial license and i still get IDed and double-checked all of the time (not a bad thing)! WolfEMT...defiantely agree with you. This procedure seems very risky. The last batch of newer licenses were supposed to be valid for like 7 years or so. So what is the point of starting to replace them lol? I just got a new one less than a year ago! If they wanna make people change over, than drivers should have to go to the DMV and at least have another eye-exam if you ask me. Sending them in the mail just seems silly and risky.
  4. This is the first i'm hearing of this. I haven't received a new one as of yet. I thought NYS licenses were actually pretty good as they were and pretty difficult to copy/alter. Other states (i.e. New Jersey) have pretty crappy licenses that are way to easy to alter.
  5. hoss...thanks for posting this lol! I have an 05' Grand Cherokee with the 3.7 liter and automatic transmission ! I guess i'll have to wait and see if i get a notification or have any tranny problems.
  6. The Buchanan FD will hold its open house on October 2 from 1-4pm. It will be held at our headqurters at 3159 Albany Post Rd. All Buchanan fire apparatus will be on display. Cortlandt EMS, Montrose VAFD & Buchanan PD will also be on hand to conduct demonstrations. There may possibly be another special appearance, but it hasn't been confirmed yet. Buchanan FD will do a stove fire demonstration, roof operations & a simulated mva w/extrication with Cortlandt EMS. There will also be other events, as well as door prizes, a fire truck ride and plenty of things for the kids!
  7. In a previous post, i mentioned Casa Di Nicola in Croton as an excellent off-duty restaurant. Unfortunately, i have recently discovered that the restaurant has been sold and re-opened as a spanish restaurant. Just an FYI.

  11. Seth, i am glad you posted this article! I had stumbled upon the Timberwolf website awhile ago and was quite impressed. They sound pretty damn close to a "Q" and have some great features as well. I saw that LA was using them on some of their rigs, including some ambulances, which i thought was interesting. Were able to hear one of these in action when you were out there? Were they any competition for a Federal-Q? Anybody have any idea how much one of these would cost? I couldn't seem to find any prices on the website.
  12. Jim, or anyone else who could answer this.... I plan to get Jim a helmet shield from Buchanan. My question is, does it matter what is on the shield (i.e. Chief or just a general shield)? Is there a preference on content of the shield or color or anything else? And it should be a shield for a Cairns 1010 helmet, correct? Thanks in advance, Lt. Michael Swankie Buchanan FD

  15. In Buchanan, there is a scanner at the Village Hall. I don't believe that anyone monitors it at all times, but i believe they scan certain frequencies. The scanner is right outside the office of the Village Administrator. I know our Mayor and trustees are very involved with emergency services in the Village. Whenever we have a major fire, or even some minor fires, you can often see the Mayor & some Trustees present on the scene. Our Mayor has actually come out to fires, no matter what time of day or night and purchased water & other refreshments to hand out.
  16. JV Hot Bagels in Jefferson Valley (Mohegan). Theres a JV Hot bagels I & II. The first one is on Lee Blvd. (near the mall), next to the gas station. The second is on East Main Street accross from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Palace Deli in Buchanan. I'm not sure where he gets his bagels from, but they're awesome! Its on Tate Ave. near the Police Station, a few blocks from Albany Post Rd. If ever in the New Brunswick, NJ area, Easton Ave. Bagels is real good. They're not far from Rutgers University. Always a good breakfast spot after a long night lol!
  17. jjpinto...Thats a real sweet picture of R1/TL71! It caught my eye right away! Did you donate it to them or was it in a house that they were using to film in? Either way, very nice picture!
  18. I noticed a picture of what looked like Yonkers R1 & a TL (ALF Mid-Mount) on last weeks (08/23) episode. It was when Tommy (Dennis Leary) was using the pay phone in the firehouse & talking on his cell phone at the same time. Behind him was a bulletin board with all sorts of pictures and articles on it. If you looked to the right of him, the picture was hanging there on the wall. I'm 99% sure it was Yonkers. Definately R1 & one of the Tower-Ladders. Did anyone else happen to catch this?

  24. I'm with you WAS on PF Changs man! I'm not a big fan of Chinese food either, so for me to actually like it is a good sign lol! I took my girlfriend there one night because i heard how good it was and i was totally impressed! All the food there is awesome and really fresh, including the egg-rolls. The prices aren't so bad either, and definately worth it! But as WAS said, you can't go to just any old Chinese restaurant after eating at PF Changs because there is no comparison! http://www.pfchangs.com/
