I was kind of pissed when i heard this today....and then i got over it, quickly lol! K-Rock has not been a "rock" station in a long, long time! They have been getting worse and worse over time. I hear the same songs every day and it kills me. Plus all the damn dj's waste too much time BSing, rather than playing music! Thank god for my girlfriend buying me XM awhile back, best present i've gotten in a long time! It may cost a few bucks a month, but definately worth it, no matter what kind of music you're into. I have a ton of CD's in my car that i listen to, but the XM comes in handy when you want some variety. XM has decades (40's - 90's), news, sports, popular/todays music, country, rock, "urban" ( ), you name it!

I believe they run 3 engines (E157, E158 & E159), 1 ladder (L77), 1 Tanker (T7), 1 Rescue (R7) & 1 Mini-Attack (MA11). Banksville borders Greenwich, Conn. and they run alot of dual response with them. Banksvilles FD is actually considered Greenwich Station 7 if i am not mistaken. That is why the #7 is used in many of their rigs ID #'s.

I took a recent class at Rockland FTC. Our instructor has been in the fire service for a long, long time and is an active member of Spring Valley. He had 17-Tower (the Metz) come to class one night for us to play with. I didn't hear one good thing about that rig. It sounded as if most of the guys aren't happy with it. Maybe why you don't see many of them around lol? They just seemed like a pain to set up and just not practical.

Heres how it goes with my VAC.... The only "set" crews are for over-night's only. There are crews of 4-5 people (all EMT/driver's) that are on-duty from their homes from 11pm-5am, Sunday-Thursday. If the duty crew takes in a run and a 2nd comes in, its up to the rest of the members to wake up and get the rig out. During the day, anyone who is around will hopfully take in calls. We are pretty lucky in that we have some members who are retirees or who work shifts and are around to take in daytime calls. For mutual-aid, we usually go 3, maybe 4 pages, depending on how much time has gone by. Each active member is assigned a pager/portable radio and an ID #. Members will sign-on to 60-Control and notify them of their status (i.e. EMT/Driver, EMT or driver) and if they are going to HQ or to the scene.

Buchanan uses Nichols fire apparatus & Hopewell. We've never really had any major issues with either of them. We will also use Pacific Automotive of Buchanan for other repairs. They are a garage that specializes in commercial vehicles, or in other words trucks with big motors lol. Some of the small stuf is done in-house by our engineers.

Talk about scary! Man, i can't believe he got up from that, much less was able to stumble off of the road to avoid another incident! I love how all of the cars kept speeding by, it didn't seem as if any of them attempted to brake/stop even when the officer was lying in the roadway! I'm sure the driver of the car involved got a nice talking to by some officers, including the one who got hit! I know why this happens soo much....because people are a-holes! Drivers today are way to pre-occupied and in a hurry and they have no clue as to what is going on around them. People do everything you can think of behind the wheel, except for paying attention. And when people see police, fire, or ems vehicles on the road, they're even worse. Everyone has to be nosy and slow down and try and get a good look at what is going on. That is why there are soo many secondary accidents on the roads. I work for the Village of Buchanan highway department and i am currently assigned to sanitation. When i tell you that i have numerous close calls every week, i am not joking. My partner and i are always watching each others backs and having to tell one another to watch out. And this is just within the tiny 1 sqaure mile of Buchanan! Anyway, very scary video clip, but not a bad thing that the video camera was running for that! Glad to see that the officer seems to be okay, although i'm sure he had to change his underwear! I hope he is doing ok and that he makes a speedy recovery!

Mike, i think the video was excellent! Its a great idea to show people, especially in your community, exactly what you do! It shows that you do a hell of a lot more than EMS & that your big blue & white truck isn't just an "over-sized ambulance!" I had seen alot of those photos previously on your website, but it was cool to see them in video format with background music. Again, very nice job on the video, it was a great idea! Stay safe down there bro!

To the entire Arena family, as well as close friends & relatives, my heart goes out to you all! Although i have unfortunately never met Jim or Gina, nor did i get to meet Jimmy boy, i feel as though i have known them forever, as many others probably feel. Your true love and strength has been a real inspiration to me, and i am sure i speak for everyone else. To have gone through what you have and to be able to remain so strong is simply amazing. As i said, i have never met you, but i do know that you are a truly caring, loving, strong and amazing family! Just know that your little angel is at peace with god now and will always be looking after you and will continue to be an inspiration to not only you and your family, but to all of us! My thoughts and prayers will remain with you and may little Jimmy Boy rest in peace. Lt. Michael Swankie Buchanan FD

Just FYI....the latest grant that we (Buchanan) received is being used toward communications. All of our officers were recently outfitted with ultra-high band portable radios, as were our rigs. The next step is to get ultra-high mobiles installed in our rigs. This was money that was much needed and appreciated by our officers and members. This grant will ultimatley make firefighting operations much safer with these more dependable radios. The money will also be used to purchase approximately 50 new Motorola pagers.
