First, Mr. Benz has had some excellent remarks on this topic, hitting the nail on the head with alot of it. I too was always told that if you're not getting your chops busted and having pranks pulled on you, than your fellow brothers aren't taking a liking to you. In any form of emergency services, you must, must, must have a thick skin and be able to take it, just as well as you dish it out! Its because of the ba** busting and joking around that we become closer as a brotherhood, if you will. Obviously, the actions of your brothers and yourselves on the fireground will ultimately bring you closer and help to gain one anothers respect/trust! Just for a bit of advise.....aside from the firehouse, make every attempt to hang out with your fellow members in non-firehouse environments! Me and my buddies from my FD are into boating, so we like to go out as much as possible and just relax without all the firehouse bs to get in the way. This accomplishes 2 things, it allows you to get to truly know these people that may save your a** one day and it allows you to relax and leave all the fd-related (career or volly) bs behind! Bottom line is this, you gotta have thick skin and if you can't take the heat, than the fire service isn't for you! Get to know the guys you "work" with, take the ba** busting with a grain of salt and don't be afraid to dish it out! That is the only way (off of the fireground) to earn your fellow brother's trust and respect!

Another bad blow to the FDNY! I wish a speedy recovery to the FF's involved! As someone else had mentioned, by looking at the damage to the cab, this could have been a much worse situation. I hope the boys in blue reamed the cab driver good and wrote him as many summonses as possible! Again, may FF Schunk & FF Walters have a speedy recovery and soon be back to RES1CUE!

Unfortunately, i too saw this first hand. All i could do was shake my head in disbelief. Not a good practice guys, not at all I saw not just one, but a handfull of companies who were doing this, and at least one that appeared to have non-members even riding the top of the rigs! Its 2006 ladies and gentlemen, lets use our heads and stop the nonsense. There is no excuse for behavior like that in any fashion. How would you justify someones injuries/death after they fell from a moving fire apparatus? Lets smarten-up and stay safe!

Just wanted to give credit where credit is due! Hats off to the fine men and women at 60 for a job well done tonight! I know how crazy it was is my neck of the woods, i can just imagine the rest of the county. The airways were close to impossible to talk on for awhile due to the insane number of alarms occuring in a short amount of time. For all the chaos in the county, 60 had a great handle on it all (in my opinion) and deserve a pat on the back! Some may say its there job to handle it, but its these rare occasions where they must go above and beyond with such a crazy ammount of calls coming in! Soo....job well done tonight to the ladies & gents at 60!

Yup...Remember585 is correct, no parade at all. I just received a text page from my chief who got word directly from Montrose Chief Jack Kingston stating that the parade has now been cancelled altogether. What a damn shame for M-Trose! It always, always rains for their parade! They change the date this year and we get a hell of a storm (+ a working fire lol). It figures too cause we had 30 guys or better ready to march tonight, best i've seen in a long, long time!

Yeah, the new dispatchers started awhile ago, but had to go through a ton of training before they even touched the radio. I've heard a couple of them on the air recently and so far, so good in my opinion! Its great that the County puts them through so much training first (CAD, EMD, ect.) so that by the time they hit the air they are well prepared and confident. Our 2nd Lt. is one of the newbies at 60 and is dispatcher 649. My buddy Shawn is also in the new batch and was formally a dispatcher for Westchester EMS (Somers FD) and is dispatcher 650 i believe. Best of luck to all the new dispatchers and may they learn from their peers (except that 642 guy ) and do as good and as professional a job as them!

Congrats Seth! May i wish you both a happy and healthy life together! From the looks of the pictures, it was beautiful in Nantucket, great place/time to make the big proposal! P.S. - Its probably better that Kristen isn't into the Fire/EMS/PD stuff, this way you can have other, more important things to talk about lol! Congrats again on the big news bro and best wishes to both of you!
