Buchanan - Original firehouse was on Bleakley Ave., right off of Albany Post Rd. The building still stands and is approximately 3 buildings up from Albany Post Rd. on the left. The building was occupied by various commercial occupancies, including an auto parts store. I'm not quite sure what it is now, but when you look at it, you can see where the 2 bays were (now replaced by large windows). The Buchanan Engine Co. vacated that building because it was to small and re-located to our current quarters at 3159 Albany Post Rd. Montrose - Original firehouse is located on Albany Post Rd., accross the street (just north) of their current quarters. This building later became the Hendrick Hudson Free Library until they vacated in the late 1990's. The building still stands and is a commercial occupancy.

Man, looking at those pictures still brings tears to my eyes and puts a lump in my throat. PEDSTRUK...Thank you for your post. I would hope and pray that nobody could or would forget that day. 210...Nicely said! Yes, we all remember the FD, PD & EMS members who were lost that day, but unfortunatley, there were many other victims that we must remember as well. Personally speaking, i know that i will be at Kensico Dam this Sunday for the memorial and i would strongly recommend others to attend as well. If you do not partake in any memorial services, at least take a moment out of your day to reflect on the events of that horrific day and to remember all those who were lost.

Wow, awesome news that they cought this SOB finally! I was actually talking about this a-hole at work today and hoping that our fine men and women of law enforcement would catch him. As stated, this white-trash POS has no regard for human life, as shown by his utter disrespect and hate toward law enforcement officers. I hope to god that this guy gets what he deserves! Unfortunately, we are much, much too liberal in this country and cannot put him through any "cruel and unusual punishment." The best we can hope for is that the state sends him to hell by lethal injection and that is just too good a way to go for a sorry low life like "Bucky" Phillips. The next best thing would be life in prison, but then we end up paying for this cop-killer to rot in jail! The justice system...go figure? Just glad to hear they caught this piece of crap after their tireless manhunt! May Trooper Longobardo rest in peace and may his family, friends and the NYSP have some closure knowing that this murderer is in custody. Job well done by all law enforcement agencies involved!

I wear the blue NYS-EMT patch on my uniform shirts, but i have the older style yellow one on my turnout coat. The reason i chose the yellow one for my turnout coat is that it stands out better on black. I personally like both patch styles for their design & colors. They both look professional and stand out.

Hey Turk...thanks for sharing this photo and info with us. By the way, do you know where i can purchase one of those shirts ? Definately kidding around about that. As stated, this is something totally uncalled for and absolutely ridiculous. It looks like the member in the photo is a young guy, so that plays a big part in it i feel. The fact that his replies were "i don't know" when asked about the shirt says alot as well. Hes probably a young, somewhat new member who unfortunately fell into the wrong click at the firehouse. Hopfully he is not resentful to career firefighters, as nobody should be, but instead is just doing what some other morons are doing. The fact that he is a some sort of town function, representing the fire department kills me as well. As stated by another member, the camo shorts, backwards hat and the anti-career sleeveless t-shirt makes him look like a real a$$. Further more, i would hope that a senior member with a brain took this kid aside and had a serious conversation with him. Whenever i am involved in something where i am in the publics eye & representing the fire department, i try and look as professional as possible. I feel that your appearance goes along way in the publics perception of you and your department. Hopfully, this situation was corrected and maybe, just maybe, someone was able to get to this kid and explain what was so wrong about his shirt. I hope that it was explained to him why this stuff shouldn't go on and that there shouldn't be any beef between volunteer and career firefighters.

We've discussed this issue alot, both on this incident & others, but i think its a good topic to discuss. All of you have brought up good points. The fact that BHFD is quite a distance from Brewster is a bit of an issue. But as stated, Lake Carmel was called and put to work and the 2nd due FASTeam was unavailable. Hands down, there is no issue with BHFD's FASTeam in itself. They were requested and they responded within a reasonable time with TRAINED personnel. When i took the FAST class at Camp Smith, i had the pleasure of working/training with a bunch of guys from BHFD and they were awesome! So, needless to say, the fact that BHFD was called isn' so much the issue. The issue is that there are only 3 (i believe) FASTeams in Putnam Co. to choose from. We are blessed in my area (Tri-Village). On any given working fire, Croton FD is the 1st due FASTeam for most FD's in my area. In my experience, we have never waited more than 10 minutes, from time of dispatch, for Croton's FASTeam to arrive on scene. I happen to be friends with many of the guys from Croton FD, which makes it nice to work with them. I know they are all well trained and experienced. When they get on scene, they send a leader or Chief officer to the Command post, while their members do their thing. They are a very, very pro-active team in that they are constantly doing size-ups and they are not shy on throwing ground ladders for eggress! But even in times where we (or Montrose or Verplanck) have had to put the team to work, we are fortunate in that we have Peekskill right next door, or Mohegan or Ossining, all of which are excellent teams. One issue that i do have however, and i see it all to often, occurs when the original FASTeam goes to work. My issue is that if the original FASTeam goes to work for manpower reasons, than you are leaving YOUR men unprotected so to say. My feeling is that if you need manpower, than call for a mutual-aid company with an engine, rescue or whatever with manpower and keep your FASTeam for that purpose. This way, your men are never without that added protection and further more, you are not stripping the area of FASTeams. I don't know, thats just my own opinion, but how does everyone else feel?

Simply amazing, thats all i can manage to say. What a dumb-a$$. Volunteer or career, who cares, either way this guy is a total a$$-hole and should be charged to the fullest extent! This guy obviously had to concern for the publics safety, not to mention the safety of his fellow firefighters. Glad to see that his own guys had the courage to do the right thing and call the PD to get this guy locked up. E53LT....well said, yet another black eye for the fire service

nyemt....yeah strikethebox.com has been around for awhile now and is an excellent site to get some ideas from. I've been going on that site pretty regularly to get ideas for my next one. If you're looking into a 9/11 themed tat, than the options are endless. Like you said, the skyline, and american flag, definately good ideas. Plus, with just those two things in mind, you can work with the artist and they'll come up with some excellent ideas! Best of luck in finding what you want! Don't be afraid to "shop around," and make sure its a reputable tattoo shop you're going to ya know? Good luck!

What a P.O.S. (the DWI driver) this guy is! Just another example of how anything can happen at any time. This officer was doing his job, the same job his has done for over 30 years, and this a-hole puts him in ICU! I hope that this guy receives the fullest extent of punishment for what he was charged with. The vehicular assault is a big one, but unfortunately DWI is only a misdemeanor, unless you have priors. May this sorry SOB face some hard time for what he has done! More importantly, may Officer Poluzzi make a full and speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers will be with him and the PPD.
