Very good topic to bring up hudson! Although i haven't had to deal much with RR situations in Buchanan, it is still a real concern of mine, as it should be of everyones! I'm not sure how often they offer it, but i took the "Responding to Railroad Emergencies" class sometime last year at the Rockland FTC. I would highly recommend this class to any emergency responder, it was a real eye opener! The class discussed everything from what is carried on these trains and how to handle incidents involving the railroad.

I couldn't believe this when i heard/saw it on the news at first. Its still early October and those poor people are dealing with 2 feet of snow! I mean, it is Buffalo and they always get hammered, but i think even they may have been thrown off by this storm. I work for the highway dept. in my village and believe me, snow = $$$ for us, but its not my favorite way to get paid! The OT is great, but driving around in circles for hours, chasing the snow isn't exactly my idea of a fun night! So i hope that the white stuff stays away from us for awhile, because i'm certainly not ready for it.

I didn't believe that FD's had competition race cars either. That was, until, i was on the NYS Thruway and saw several FDs (all from L.I.) traveling SB with these race cars in tow. Not only did they have souped-up race cars, but also had large commercial trucks (lettered & w/lights) to tow them! I also couldn't believe that many of them had at least 1, if not more, chiefs car with them. Hmm, flagrant spending much? Thats just rediculous and outta control! These guys need to be stopped and have some control in their spending. I too would be pissed if i were a taxpayer in one of these districts. And how the hell can racing a car better your firefighting skills?

Ah yes, taht video. That video is a favorite of alsfirefighter. He shared it with us in one of his classes. If i am not mistaken, there was still gas inside the structure & when they got too close with the flare.....well the video explains what happened. Yet another reason why it is soo hard to do live burns now-a-days (which may not be such a bad thing).

Hey, come on now drobison......we all know that all firefighters are way over-payed lol! All kidding aside, that is just disgusting! Besides, when is the last time yoou saw a Mercedes owner who was into RVing? The RV alone has to be about $300,000 or better and the SLK probably runs about $50-60,000. I could think of a few better things to spend my money on.
