  4. STAT & Seth... I have had one of these radio straps for quite some time now and i love it. I wear mine inside of my turnout gear, never on the outside. The only thing that i do not like is when you are in a crawling type situation and where the radio has the tendancy to slide down toward the front of your body and can become a pain.

  6. I've been going since Elmsford held their 1st seminar (before they re-named it in honor of Andy) and i intend on going this year as well! A handful of us from Buchanan usually try and make it to this, as it is always a great seminar! They always have great topics, as well as presenters/speakers. And of course there are the vendors so you can see some of the latest tools/equipment on the market for the emergency service market! For those who have gone before, i am sure you can/will agree that this is an excellent seminar & that the men & women of the Elmsford FD work their asses off for this big, important day! To those who haven't gone before, i would strongly suggest going this year, as it is a great experience! This year should be very interesting/educational with Chief Goldfeder as the speaker. Chief Golfeder is a great speaker/writer in the fire service. For anyone who has read any of his articles or has seen him speak, you know how how much you'll get out of this seminar! He is a great speaker, who is not afraid to speak his mind without sugar-coating things, which i love. I had the opportunity to briefly meet him last year and he is a great guy, not to mention quite funny! To the members of the Elmsford FD; Hats off to you for a continuous job well done on this seminar as it has continued to grow tremendously! Your hard work and dedication is much appreciated.

  9. Great topic Seth! Its nice to see alot of great ideas that have come from this! In my department, we use the simple tag method. Each active member is issued 2 tags. One tag stays on the member at all times, the other goes to the Safety/Accountability officer. Blue tags are non-interior and red is for interior. It works great within our department. But as the Captain stated, what about mutual-aid? Does the IC know what A, B & C fire departments are using for their accountability? Thats why i firmly believe that there must be a standard set throughout the County. Its great that the county is finally starting to push NIMS compliancy, so why can't we push for accountability standards? Its for our own good and safety! When i took intro to fire officer a few years ago, we discussed the whole accountability topic from top to bottom. It was interesting, not to mention somewhat alarming to see how many different systems are used throughout the county. It also scared the hell out of me to hear 2 firefighters from the same dept. (quite a large one at that) tell the class that they have NO form of accountabilty what-so-ever! Bottom line is that we need to implement a standard, unified accountability system for the entire county! Just my thoughts, stay safe all!

  15. I'm 50/50 on these type of markings. We have them in Buchanan and they are re-painted every couple of years if i am not mistaken. They can be good at times, but as res6cue stated, how bout in the winter with all the snow and ice? I'd prefer the flag type markings that stick up off the top of the hydrant a couple of feet. This way, the snow won't make a difference and the flags would be easier to see even if there were other things in the way (i.e. bushes). just my 2 cents!
  16. John, i had thought the same about the spare 52 engine. However, i believe that E88 just has stars on the rig, i do not remember it having the red and white stripes on the side of the rig, but i could be wrong. Seth, nice shots as usual bro! I definately like the new stairs on 52-Truck!

  20. Seth, nice shots! One of my buddies is a mechanic out of the DOT's Millwood garage and they just got at least one of these new Macks. He was saying that they were having alot of problems with some of the newer International's, thus giving Mack a try. He loves the new Mack all around and already wants to claim it as his lol! Where i work, we have a 2004 International garbage truck and in my opinion, they can have it back! We've had a ton of problems with it, its been nothing but a headache! I'd take our 88' Mack over it any day! We have an 88' Mack garbage truck and two 6-wheel Mack dumps (an 86' and an 88'). Aside from some rust, you just can't beat em'!
