  8. Chris, awesome reply! I couldnt agree more. I do not believe that there is enough training on TICs on the manufacturers end. TICs can make FFs complacent & they forget their basic search skills. TICs are not the end all, be all. Are they great technology? Of course they are! But we must train on their proper uses & capabilities and not get tunnel vision with them. I am sure these FFs did the best they could and i will not monday morning quarterback this incident, as non of us should. Unfortunately a person died in this fire, it happens and it sucks all around. I guess we will have to wait and see further reports on this fire to get a better understanding of what happened. Only the members on scene know what took place and where things went wrong.

  10. Awesome video. Even better was the quick thinking on the part of the 2 members, as well as the FF who moved the ladder into position! That could not have been a more perfect ladder escape! As others have said, this is where your training comes into play and i'm glad they had it! Good to hear neither was injured either, god bless em'!

  12. DADAY, great looking rig! Looks like alot of work went into specing this rig. Best of luck to the boys & girls of Brewster FD with the new rig! I definately like the tribute to Lt. Neuner on the side of the rig, very nice touch!
  13. HFD........DON'T DO IT!!! All kidding aside, boats are great, but very, very expensive, so be prepared! As most members have stated, it all depends on what you are looking to do with the boat. Will it be for pleasure, fishing, family or a combination? Are you looking for a sailboat or power boat, trailering it or putting it in a slip? How people would you want to bring on the boat? These are all things that you will have to consider in choosing the right boat for you. I own a 21' Donzi cuddy cabin with a 350 OMC motor and its perfect for me for now. I can go out with 5 or so people and still have plenty of power, plus its roomy enough to anchor out and relax. I can also sleep 2 people in the cabin and its plenty comfortable. Personally, i chose to put my boat in a slip and this will be my 3rd season at my boat club. I pay about $1,300 a season for the slip. But for me, its worth it. When i get out of work, i just head down to the boat, remove the cover, start her up and i'm off. Plus i have great neighbors in the slips around me and they are more than helpful when i need anything. Obviously, as in any purchase, do your research! Make sure you know what you want and look around. I would suggest going with a pre-owned for your first boat to ensure you will use it and you enjoy it without breaking the piggy bank. Whatever you may decide, best of luck to ya! Boating is a great time and a fun way to relax and meet good people!

  16. ALS, i guess more people need to take EVOC when you teach it and they would be more than informed on these meaning's and how they drive you crazy lol . I to have told incoming units in my agency to "respond non-emergency" or something similar, only to hear sirens approaching the scene. This is very annoying & dangerous ! I've even encountered this after said unit(s) have copied my transmission! Its always fun to play back the audio so that they can hear themselves copy my tranmission and then explain why they ignored it lol! However, our new chief has set in place updated SOP's/SOG's to deal specifically with responding and they have worked out with our guys following them pretty well. Now, the 10-code thing, a whole other topic in itself! How long has it been now that we've gone away from the 10 codes? Yet we still have agencies that insist on using them .
  17. Is it me, or are there alot of true wacker depts. in Maryland, Pennsylvania & parts of Virginia??? I'm all for making your rigs safe, but come on now !
  18. 53... I don't know of any off hand in the surrounding Counties that have part-time FF's, i think mostly in part due to union regulations. However, i have seen depts. in Jersey that hire per-diem FF's. Many depts. in Jersey fall under the New Jersey Firemens Mutual Benevolent Association (NJFMBA). Heres a link to their site, with a list of all their locals... http://www.njfmba.org/locals.htm You can browse through that and it may help. I know that i stumbled upon a Jersey Dept. that was looking for per-diem FF's not to long ago, just can't remember which dept. it was. I believe the requirements included FF1, Haz-Mat ops, Confined Space and a few others. Anyway, hope this was of some assistance!
  19. TR....Great to see other departments getting involved in this great cause! I was approached by management at our local Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Donuts and asked if we'd (Buchanan) participate. With a quick call to my Chief, plans were secured for us to be there. I believe we'll bring an engine for the kids to check out and just make a presence for this awesome cause. Again, same date and time.... Wednesday, May 2 from 5-10pm Buchanan Baskin Robbins 3213 Albany Post Rd.

  22. Just the thought of the possibility of this storm hitting is to depressing for me! My girlfriend is just departing Miami for a cruise to the Cayman Islands and Jamaica with her friends...what the hell am i doing in NY lol? I am so sick and tired of this weather, it can't seem to make up its mind, where is spring for crying out loud? After working an 8 hour day, then a 14 hour night the night before St. Pattys, i am totally done with the snow! The $$$ is incredible, but it is so annoying at the same time. As for the rain, it is my least favorite of any weather! Mainly because i am usually working sanitation and let me tell you that it is not fun, nor safe, to be on the back of a truck in this type of weather (rain/high winds)! If this storm does hit hard tomorrow however, i truly hope i get the O.T. call...Sundays are double time . Forget chasing pump-outs and other crappy calls with the FD, call me in for the Highway Dept. and show me the money lol!
  23. My god you boys love to recycle your officers, don't ya? All kidding aside, that is a great list of officers for the point, as most of them have been around awhile, as well as serving as officers. The Currys make for a father and son Chief team and both are great guys! Then theres Paulie as a Chief once again with his eldest son Jimmy as an Lt., man they love to keep it in the family! All kidding aside, congrats to all the officers and best of luck in your upcoming terms, we look foward to working with you as usual!
