  2. FF Brendan Cawley (27-Truck) returned to work after approximately 3 years of extensive recovery & rehabilitation after injuries he suffered during the "black Sunday" fire. On that fateful day, 6 FDNY members became trapped on the #4 floor of a Bronx tenament and were forced to jump. Two of them, Lt. Curtis Meyran & Lt. John Bellew made the supreme sacrifice. Hats off to FF Cawley & best wishes on returning to his dream job! Heres the link to the the Daily News article: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/11/20...arly_3_yea.html
  3. Wow, a definate shame, but no suprise coming from the Vern. Jod, i just read your original post and the responses, what a disgrace! There is no reason that you and your fellow brothers at FDMV should have to work in those conditions! Glad to hear the union is stepping up, but lets hope the City moves quickly to resolve this. Career Fire personnel having to work out of trailers...whats next? As others have stated, its just been one thing after the other in MV. By the grace of God, lets hope the new Mayor actually gives a crap about you guys and tries to do the right thing, but i dont know how promising that looks either. Its quite apparent how little the City cares about the FD that is sworn to protect them. Staffing & equipment issues, all the B.S. with promotions and hiring, now this crap? Absolutely ridiculous! Not to start a vol. vs paid war, but...take a look at some of the vol. houses around the region. There are many that cost multi-millions to build and have insane ammenities in them. To each their own and great for those depts, but come on! You have Career depts. with manpower that have to live in their firehouses around the clock and look at the conditions that they have to live in! I know money is always an issue, and it certainly has been in MV. But maybe they should look harder to cut expenses elsewhere to increase the money being put into emergency services. Anyway, my rant is over, just thought id throw my 2 cents in, not that anyone cares lol. To hudson and the rest of the FDMV, hang in there, keep fighting and lets hope things get better for you guys!

  5. Bout time you boys get a rig that can fit up and down your districts streets lol! Rob, all kiding aside, its a great looking rig and from what i've seen and heard, it was speced out right and should serve you guys well. Best of luck to my brothers to the South with the new rig! Now, does this mean the chances of us getting called m/a to the 'Trose for an engine have gotten slimmer lol?
  6. Happy Birthday bro! Its been awhile since we were sitting in classes at Mercy...ah, those were the days lol! You look so professional behind that desk.
  7. I never had the pleasure to meet Mr. Knoesel, but it sounds as if he was a wonderful man and will be deeply missed. I did however get to work with his son TJ, when i was a dispatcher trainee at WCPD. In knowing TJ, i can only imagine that he got his wonderful personality from his father. My sincere condolences go out to the Knoesel family, the Ardsley FD and the Ardsley community. May he rest in peace.

  11. Kris, i am quite aware of Peurto Ricos connection to the US, not my gripe. My problem was that i had to stand there and listen as this man had to have everything repeated to him in Spanish, as he could not understand the desk clerk...because he was speaking ENGLISH! I am also aware that there are exams now given in Spanish, another issue in my mind, but thats a whole other topic and im to tired to care right now.
  12. Wow, what a topic to discuss. Lots of great points made by all. Nice to see a topic where we all can be adults and share our opinions, whether we agree or not. Immigration is definately a touchy subject all around. If people want to immigrate to OUR country, i have no problem with it, as long as they do it legally! They want drivers licenses? Do it legally, like the rest of us have! If they want to come here and work and positively contribute to our society, then so be it. Like everyone else, i have had my fair share of experiences with immigrants, both positive and negative. Many of them are hard working and just wish to support their families and thats fine. Many of them constantly cause problems for people, emergency services personnel in particular. As far as the driver license issue, i'm a bit torn. Some say "who cares, they all drive anyway." Yes, that may be true, but not right or legal. If i let my license expire, as well as my insurance and i hit someone...oh boy, i'm set to lose alot. Doesn't seem to be the same for immigrants, now does it? A year or so ago, i went to the local DMV office to re-new my Commercial Driver License (CDL). A license that i legally obtained by passing a written exam, as well as a road test on a commercial truck. As i was in line, waiting my turn, there were two gentlemen in front of me speaking in Spanish. I did not think much of it, until they got to the counter. Turns out, one of them had just moved here from Puerto Rico (legally or illegally, i do not know) and was attempting to obtain a NYS driver license. The other gentleman was his INTERPRETER! This pissed me off quite a bit, to say the least. I had to stand and wait there while this guy had to have everything repeated to him in Spanish. Do you think if i were to go to a predominately Spanish speaking country, i'd be treated the same? I think not!

  16. WOW...a new level of stupidity! All four were either 20 years old or older, when do we grow up gentlemen? I've heard people doing all sorts of stupid things, but this takes the cake! Using emergency equipment to commit crimes...brillient! They all should be suspended from the fire department for life & never be allowed to join any other organization! They should also be charged to the fullest extent of the law. A-holes!

  18. Seth, good topic & questions! 20Truck...about 6 years ago i was a passenger in my buddies car when he got pulled over for speeding in Croton. The P.O. goes through the regular v&t stuff and then asks us to roll up our windows. He gets a "tint-o-meter" out of his patrol car and checks the tint percentage and issues a summons for the speeding and tint. I thought it was kind of an a-hole thing to do to ask us to roll the windows up just to check it and write a summons, but the law is the law i guess. Funny thing is we were on our way to a Croton PD officers house to pick his daughter up because we used to car pool to school. OnTheWheel...I have plenty of friends and relatives who are on the job and i have the utmost respect for LEO's. I totally agree that there should be laws regarding window tint percentages, if for no other reason than officer safety! Some cars out there are just outright rediculous! With that being said, the windows on my truck, and any other vehicle i have owned, are tinted lol! I have an extended cab pickup and it came with factory tint on the back windows. I just recently had the front 2 windows tinted to match the rear. I do not know the exact percentage of the tint, but they are not that dark at all and i believe they are in the legal range. Anytime i have ever been stopped, i ALWAYS roll down both windows, place my hands on the steering wheel, turn on the light if at night and never move around as to make the LEO nervous. I am well aware that if the LEO wants to, he/she could possibly write me for the tint. That is why i always roll down the windows for safety and to make the LEO a bit more comfortable as they approach my vehicle. I would advise anyone else with tints to do the same. Question for the LEO's on this forum, is what i described above good practice as a driver during a traffic stop?

  20. I gotta agree with vacguy! I have had a Minitor 5 for about a year now and have had nothing but problems with it! I'm lucky if it goes off half the time and it doesn't hold a charge for anything. I have resorted to relying on my dept. issued Nextel & can only hope that the I-Page's come through. It seems that all Minitors have had their pro's & con's, but in my opinion, bring back the Minitor -II's!
