  4. Congrats to all the new hires at six-zero control! May you all have long, possitive careers there. Im sure they will be great additions to the current staff...with the exception of that 642 guy, hes a real jacka$$ ! Just kidden Muns, im sure you'll break them in real well, as you broke me in at Somers lol. Except they wont be able to make runs to the Mahopac Diner for ya. Although i dont know George personally, im sure he will do great as he has been involved in emergency services for awhile now, not to mention the experience he has from Dobbs. Congrats bro! JT i do know and have all the confidence in the world in him! Cant wait to hear ya on the air. I have taken several classes with Cathleen and shes a great firefighter and a great girl, i know she'll do well. Hell, shes a Malone, so you know she'll be fine serving in emergency services! Congrats Cathleen! Best of luck to all!
  5. Not that many of you will care, just thought i'd share a funny story. I recently returned from a Royal Caribbean cruise (Enchantment of The Seas) to Belize City, Belize, Cozumel, Mexico and Key West, Florida. While at breakfast one morning, i spotted a guy wearing an EMTBravo shirt. I had spotted him wearing an FD shirt another day, but couldnt make out what FD it was. So when i saw him at breakfast, i noticed the blue shirt with yellow writing. I swore it was a "Bravo" shirt and my fiancee confirmed it. Unfortunately, i lost sight of him and didnt get the chance to introduce myself. I believe i saw him again in Key West, the last day of our cruise, but i was in an "establishment" and a bit under the weather . I couldnt help but laugh though, knowing that i was on a ship of approximately 2,500 passengers and in the middle of the Ocean and there stands a fellow Bravo member.
  6. EJS...Holy Crap bro lol! Is this you? When i saw him, even before i noticed the FD/Bravo shirts, he did look familiar. Sweet picture...love the beer bongs at Senior Frogs lol! Unfortunately, we did not make it there. Tried to hit it on the way back, but it was packed and we had to get back on the ship. But the locals selling $1.00 bottles of beer to go sure got alot of our business! Izzy, LMAO bro, those daily drink specials are crazy! All i know is we tipped our "drink manager" the first night and my Captain and Coke's were close to lacking the coke lol. Sorry Shawn, i barely had time to get souveniers for myself bro. Maybe next time Seth, i knew you, of all people, would love this story.

Description Of Incident: Working Fire in a commercial garage. Writer: BFD1054 0900hrs-MSFD dispatched for reported structure fire at the old Parker's Garage. Units arrive to find heavy fire conditions pushing from the two-bay garage. Mutual-aid immediately requested for manpower, a Ladder and a Tanker for water source. *This is the town where my fiancee was raised and where her parents still live. We happened to be in town (unfortunately for a funeral and Easter) when this fire occured. The fire station is litterally behind my fiancee's parents house and the fire building is visible from their house as well. Some of her family members are members of the FD, including uncles that are former Chiefs and her grandmother who is President of the Ladies Auxiliary. So when the fire whistle blew, everyone woke up, including my fiancee to tell me there was a fire. Unfortunately, the fire building was owned by my fiancee's family and had been a big part of the town for close to 100 years. The owner of the building had closed the business and had been trying to sell the garage in recent years. He was there working on his personal car when the furnace caught fire. He was slightly injured, but managed to escape and run next door to the general store to call the FD. The garage was a total loss and was knocked down later in the afternoon, but a storage garage containing flamable materials that was only feet away, was spared. I have a bunch of pictures and will try and show some of them.

  12. Ahh, thats why Connelly's was ridiculously packed lol. We were in there for about 3 minutes, if it takes to long to get a beer, i get inpatient. Now i'm pissed, i would have loved to see them! Every Irish bar in the City was packed, as would be expected. Im not a large crowd kind of guy, probably has to do with me not being a "people person." Or the fact that i hate not being able to move, waiting to long for a beer and getting beer and/or other liquids spilled on me  ! The parade (NYC) was awesome as always and the bars were a good time. My fiancee is from Vermont, so it was her 1st NYC St. Pats outing, needless to say she cant wait the 364 days til the next one ! I may have missed Shilelagh Law, but we did catch the Westchester Co. Police Emerald Society Pipes & Drums at Calico Jacks which was awesome!

  14. Nick, i absolutely agree with you 100%! I didnt mention it in my post, but preventative maintenance in any dept. should be paramount! Thank you for bringing that up.
  15. Hey Muns...any good techniques of getting through lath & plaster would have been greatly appreciated at Bannon Ave., wouldn't they have ? Moose, again, nice find on the video. I definately like this technique and am anxious to try it out for myslef.
  16. Hey moose, nice catch on the video and good questions and replies. I first saw this method being used a few years back during training at an acquired structure. A Career FF from Lake Mohegan was up on the roof and showing one of our members how good it worked. LMFD had acquired a structure to train in/on and invited us, Putnam Valley and Yorktown to train with them. A year or so after seeing it used, we had acquired a structure for training and i went to the roof to practice venting and used the blunt end of the axe to vent and it worked real well. It seemed to not only be easier, but faster as well. But as a few guys have said, it all depends on the situation and the roof type. It may work for some people, some of the time, but not for everyone all of the time. Its nice to have all these great saws we carry such as the K12 (partner) or quick vent, but as moose pointed out, what if they fail? Sometimes we have to rely on the old faithful axe and its good to know different ways of how to use every tool, including the axe.
  17. JJB, i have to disagree, sorry brother. I am not for bashing of any individual, group or agency. However, i do not feel that this is a bash fest against LEO's at all. Some people are border-line bashing, mostly venting. But many of us have just simply looked over the video and are stating our opinions. I think it is quite a positive topic, or at least has been thus far.
  18. WOW, WOW & WOW! I know we all have jobs to do, but isnt there a proper place and time for everything? First off, i want to say i have no problem with police officers what-so-ever. I do have a problem with how this incident was handled. dondestro...i thought of the same thing, the Fairview incident from the other day. If not for the strategic placement of E174, who knows what injuries may have been suffered by those Fairview members, not to mention any EMS or PD on that scene? This is the exact reason why apparatus is used to block moving lanes of traffic, so that the scene becomes more secure for ALL agencies involved. As for this incident in question...i'd have to say the P.O. was out of line. Again, im sure people will disagree with me and no, i was not there. But the engine was dispatched for whatever reason (i.e. standard procedure, BLS/ALS, extrication) and they responded and attempted to do their job. The Capt.'s main priority was obviously scene safety for ALL those on scene, as well as the patients well being (as he gloved-up and immediately went to the aid of the other responders). The P.O. had a hard-on for keeping the roadway open for whatever reason. There were still two lanes of traffic left open, so i dont see a problem. Whats more important, scene safety or to keep traffic flowing? The other 2 lanes were kept flowing and if anything, slowed the 2 open traffic lanes down a bit to further ensure scene safety. I have to say, i like the FD Capt.'s compossure and how he handled the situation. I think that will help him in this case. He stood his ground and continued to tell his driver to not move the rig and his driver listened. The P.O. again tried to get the driver to move the rig at which time the FD Capt. had to stop what he was doing to talk to the P.O. and his driver. The Capt. then returns to patient care at which time the P.O. appears to grab his arm and place him under arrest. The FD Capt. seems pissed, but remains calm and goes along with the arrest. Again, i wasnt there and i do not know the two agencies procedures, however, it seems cut and clear to me. The P.O. was out of line, but who knows?

  20. Wow, really nice trucks, best of luck with them! I, to, like the white with the gold-leafing, definately looks classy as someone else said. It also seems to have a good lighting/warning package as well. As others have stated, i also think the chevron stripping was a great idea! Armonk does plenty of MVA's and their Chiefs are usually first to get on scene, so its great that they have that added warning.

  22. Agreed, you can never be too safe when dispatching. Not to tell a war story....ok i guess i am lol. When i was a dispatcher trainee at WCPD, i took a call of question. I was working tele-type, not even near the emergency lines. I was doing work on the computer, tele-type and answering non-emergency calls. I received a call from a frantic woman, who happened to have a strong Spanish accent. The woman was saying something abut being stuck on her garage door and that she was in Port Chester. I first looked around the room to ensure it wasnt my co-workers screwing with me...it wasnt and my Training Officer gave me a look and was like "what do ya got?" I started telling the woman to calm down and to speak slowly so i could understand her. At the same time, i was jotting down all the info i could get. As i spoke to the woman, i advised my T.O. to start out PCPD to the address. Short story long, it turned out that she was a tiny woman and when she opened her garage door (electric), her coat strings became entangled in the door and actually lifted her off the ground! She was able to retrieve her cell phone from her pocket and somehow reached us. A PCPD Lieutenant called us back a short while later and confirmed it. He couldnt believe that i was able to stay calm and get all the info that i did. I told him i didnt know what to think of it, so i took it as a serious call. He said his patrol units rolled up and sure enough, there she was hanging upside-down from the garage door! The guys that oversaw all the I.T. stuff for the Commo Unit always said they wanted to put together a "Best Of" WCPD Communications tape and that one would have definately made it lol. Just goes to show, you never know what you're gonna get or hear in the world of Emergency Services. You must take all calls as if they are serious and then put the info together to determine how serious it truly is.
  23. TR54...as always, thank you for sharing these photos! I love looking at your photos from the past, definately cool to see. I can remember my father bringing me up on Main St. to watch this fire. And yes, Scottie does look awful skinny lol. But i guess being Chief a few times over will do that to ya!
  24. efd, totally agreed brother! It is amazing what people will do for a buck! Reminds me of a woman we had living in our district...she was 715lbs.! Yes 7-1-5 pounds, no type-o! We went on at least (3) occasions to this womans house and yes, she lived on the 2nd floor, in a walk-up of course. They were all on medical calls, but the FD had to be dispatched for obvious reasons. We had to do what FDNY did with this guy, set up a rope system to get her down the stairs. County Car-2 was on location with his POV to give us a hand with all the rope rigging. When we were ready to hoist her down the stairs, we had to shut down Albany Post Rd. (where her house was), so that members on the rope could go out into the street. I remember a young, new Trooper stopping by and asking if he could help, not knowing what was going on. I said "sure" and he grabbed the line with us. He gave the "oh my god" when she appeared at the door. Doubt that Trooper stops to often to help the FD anymore lol. All kidding aside, at least (2) members were injured, one with a severly sprained ankle from the patient coming down on his foot.
  25. Montrose FD has an Ice-Rescue Team. Im not sure how many guys they have, but they do train quite often, usually using the pond at the Cortlandt Yatch Club.
