Wow, lets settle down people! Enough with the blue light BS please! Yes they can be obtained easily, yes SOME vollies are total whackers and out of control efd, but lets keep all that out of this thread! Unbelieveable how a member can post important info about a serious crime and it turns into the blue light topic (again).

Rob, cool video, thanks for sharing! Love the shot of "Spanky"(Metro-North/PFD 2346) talking with Chief Tumolo (PPD)!

Wow, that about sums up those shots! Nice pics by the way! I would also say that there was extensive speed involved to get that end result. Was this in a small neighborhood? Looks like a quiet street. I have family that live in Trumbull and it looks an awful lot like their street. So, 2 serious mva's for this guy in less than a year? Yeah, insurance company will not be to happy. Was he DUI or what? First a telephone pole in daylight and then a HOUSE, again in daylight. In both incidents, looked to be clear days with normal driving conditions.

TR45, as always, thanks for sharing a great photo and in this case using it to start a topic! I love New England FD's, especially throughout Mass, and i love the Maxims (many of them are still first due pieces in NE). In Buchanan, it depends which Truck Co. you are with.... Sorry couldnt resist. All kidding aside, we obviously do not have a ladder. However, Montrose TL-8 is usually our 1st due ladder and we train with them as often as possible. I know that their guys always wear a ladder belt or gemtor when operating on the ladder/in the bucket. We do carry ladder belts on our rigs and our guys use them when needed. Als, good point. The Gemtor harness has become quite popular over the years. I think its up to personal opinions and what the individual FF is comfortable with. I just hate to see new FF's who go out, buy a Gemtor, put it on their gear and have no formal training on them. I think that they are great, but i have not had the opportunity to be trained on their proper uses, therefore i do not have one.

Just looked up the depts website. It lists a "job opportunity" for a maintenance person (this was from 2007). Also, their website states that they answered 430 or so calls. They must really be hurting for volunteers to consider hiring career FF's with a call volume like that. http://www.fishersfd.org/job_opportunity.htm

Wow, alot of thoughts came to mind when i read this article. First was that i was impressed that a small town dept. is even thinking of hiring career FF's (nice to see), second was that this was a small article and id like to hear more in depth information. I have said in many of my posts that i am pro-career (although im a vollie), so i'd love to see this dept. hire some career staff. Egos and pride MUST be set aside ladies and gentlemen! After all, we are here to provide a vital service to the communities that we serve and if we feel that we can no longer adequately provide those services, than we must look to new resources (i.e. career FF's). To the Deputy Chief who says hiring 4 career FF's will lead to hiring more down the line...AND YOUR POINT??? We can see where this guys thoughts are, about 50 years in the past! FirNaTine...couldnt have said it better myself! If i were a member of this Dept., id make sure to take the next County Civil Service FF exam and to kick a$$ on it so i could be one of those hires lol! Firecapt32...I was thinking the same thing Captain. I highly doubt they could pull off having (4) career FF's w/decent salaries & benefits for $200K a year. It should be interesting to see how this story plays out and how this dept. makes out.

No surprise really. People have complained about fire whistles/sirens for years and years. When i worked as a dispatcher for Somers Fire District, there were so many guidelines for when and when not to sound the siren because of the number of community complaints. To be honest, i rarely ever sounded it because id rather get the call out than worry if im supose to be sounding the siren or not lol. I had one incident where i sent out an alarm and a member keyed me up on the district nextel and asked why i hadnt sounded the whistle. I kindly advised him that he obviously knew there was a call, so i didnt see the big deal lol. To be perfectly honest, i cant see the reason for fire whistles anymore. With newer technology such as pagers, radios, scanners and cell phone text messaging (I-Page), there is no need for the whistles. I mean, some old timers, such as my father still like having the siren. My father rather hear the siren, know theres a call and respond to the firehouse than carry a pager lol.

What a horrible tragedy. May Sgt. Aponte rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with P.O. Gonzalez for a speedy & full recovery. My thoughts and prayers are also with the Aponte & Gonzalez families, as well as the NHPD.

Wow Bill, amazing shots as usual! I especially like the black & white, i think it just gives pictures that traditional look. Looks like PFD made an excellent stop, considering the exposure issues. Dont know any PFD guys, but the member who was identified as Roger sure looks like a salty-a** fireman lol!

I am glad that this topic was brought up, as i have been curious about Constables for quite some time. I know that i did see Constables in Elmsford a few years back at a parade and did not know their role/authority, however i did notice they were carrying firearms. It sounds as if the Pelham Town Constables are responsible for prisoner transport and civil matters. Does anyone know of other local municipalities that have Constables? And if so, what are their roles/capabilities? My Fiancee is from Vermont and the Constable concept is very popular their in smaller communities, such as the town where she grew up. I believe they are hired by the town and sent to an academy, however it is not as intense/strenuous as a Police academy. We were visiting there recently and had to stop at a local store. While i got out of my truck, i noticed a newer red, extended cab Dodge Dakota pull into the parking lot. On the dashboard was a single blue strobe light & radar gun. Attatched to his Vermont state license plate was a custom plate that read "Tinmouth Constable." There was no markings what-so-ever on the truck other than the plate. I have to be honest, if that truck were to pull up behind me with light flashing and siren activated, i would be very hesitant to pull over for him (as in a traffic stop). I think i would call 911 and request a marked patrol vehicle to respond with a uniformed officer to talk to. I would definately like to learn more about Constables to say the least and hear other members ideas/opinions on this topic.

ALS, congrats bro! As als said, we have known each other for many years and its always nice to come on here and see that we are both active members of the sight. As most members know, ALS has a great wealth of knowledge in emergency services. As you can see from his posts, he knows a great deal of information on many different topics. He is an excellent FF, Paramedic, Instructor, mentor & friend. I have always looked forward to reading his posts as they are always informative and of course, i love his sarcasim lol. Even his recent posts regarding the Presidential race have been in-depth, informative and at times funny as hell! Congrats again bro, well deserved.

Glad to hear the Lt. is ok and his car was recovered. This had to be a very emotional and scary thing to go through. Here is a man who has spent his career helping those in need and risking his life for the City of New Haven. F-ING Skells, never seize to amaze me! I am 100% for the right to keep and bear arms. Should everyone carry a firearm, no. Should responsible, law abiding citizens be able to protect themselves and their families with a firearm? Absolutely! I own a few long guns and am in the process of specing out a good home-defense 12-gauge (probably a Remington 870). People have this notion that they are always safe in their little communities. Let me tell you, crime can happen anywhere, anytime. I spent the weekend in Vermont...great place for pro-gunners, let me tell you! I went to a few gun shops with my soon to be father-in-law and i handled several handguns without question. I was also using his Hi-Point 40. Cal. for some target practice right in the back yard, no problems there either lol. While i am for certain gun laws, they can be a bit overbearing. Lad45der...to funny bro, great insurance policy man! That is why my fiance knows how to handle and shoot my guns and why she is currently awaiting her NYS pistol license, as am i. If Lt. Harris had a firearm, would it have made a bit of difference in his carjacking incident? Who knows. It would depend on many factors, which at the least would be his firearms training.

I just filed for this exam, seeing as how i missed the last one. Didnt realize Rockland Co. is the same day or i would have cross-filed. The more tests you take, the more opportunities you may have.

John McCain will most definately get my vote as well! He'll also be getting the votes from the majority of my friends and family. He is a true American, through and through! I am all for the right to keep and bear arms and it is quite obvious that John McCain and Sarah Palin feel the same. I am currently waiting to receive my NYS pistol license and i'll be damned if those liberals take that right from me after all i went through to get it! Just one reason why team McCain has my vote! I just truly could never imagine Obama as our President, plain and simple.

Izzy, thanks bro! I had a feeling you would be the one to answer me. My fiance saw someone on a stretcher that looked pretty banged up, but she couldnt see anything else.

585, thanks for the further info/input. I to am a fan of the low hosebed and the length of the rig. Sounds like this rig was very well thought out. Hey Kris, of course Buchanan cannot afford a Seagrave, not with the way they pay those damn garbagemen ! I love our Pierce, just wish we could get rid of our damn Sutphen lol. To the boys and girls of BMFD, congrats and good luck!

Wow, i didnt even realize they got a new engine. Dont know why people are saying its plain or cheap looking though? Hell, id love to have an engine like that for my fd! As long as it does its job, who the hell cares what it looks like or what kind of lights it has? Nice rig, best of luck with it BMFD!
