  1. feraldan...you beat me to it! But leave us g-men outta this lol. I was NOT surprised to see "garbage collector" (or whatever they called it) on the list. But as others have stated, this is just a survey/rating by some yahoos. They obviously have not a clue. I happen to work sanitation (municipal) and get payed very well thank you very much (thank you Local 456 ). On top of my nice salary, i get full benefits, work straight days M-F 7am-2:30pm, plenty of time off and overtime on top of everything. Do i have crappy days? Yes. Does it suck in bad weather? Yes. Is there heavy days where my body aches? Yes. Have i been hurt? Yes. Can it be dangerous? Yes. But overall, it is a good career for sure. Im sure not many people would think that sanitation/DPW would be a good job, but its not bad. Is it what i set out to do? No. Is it glorifying or satisfying? No. But it pays the bills and affords myself and my fiancee a nice lifestyle. As for the other jobs, i have no first-hand knowledge of. As far as EMS goes, i definately believe that EMS providers are way underpaid. EMS is defiantely the most unappreciated and undercompensated jobs in the emergency services sector.
  2. Cutty, sweet lookin ride man, best of luck with it BHFD! I love the color scheme and gold leaf, very classy. Its definately got plently of warning power, thats for sure. I love the rear cargo set-up. Great space for the air-pak, extinguishers, radios and gear. I like that the area for the turn-outs has matting under it to keep it cleaner. I also like how the radios are set up and the compartment for the command board is awesome!
  3. Although i do not live in Newburgh, nor in Dutchess Co., i'd like to say congrats to Chief Carpenter. 46 years of service to any job is a great accomplishment, much less 46 years in the FD! Sounds like Chief Carpenter is a great man, a great fireman and a great leader. His retirement will surely be a loss to the NFD and surrounding communities. However, it seems that he will leave behind somewhat of a legacy. Congratulations Chief on your retirement and thank you for your service, enjoy!

  7. Haha i feel like an a**. I was in WP yesterday with my buddy and i couldnt figure out what the hell was going on, now i know. It took me over an hour to get into WP because of the traffic on I-287 and all the gridlock in WP. I was actually at the corner of Main & B'Way (i think thats the intersection) and saw all the apparatus (FD, PD, Con-Ed) and didnt think much of it. Lots of PD units for traffic diversion, thats for sure! As far as the mutual-aid and who was called and who didnt get called goes, we're beating a dead horse fella's. Jay, while i hear where you're coming from, Barry has some excellent points. Could NWPFD or any other vol. company get a rig on the road with a full crew that has the proper training in an adequat response time? Maybe they could, maybe not. But when you have a working fire, thats not the time to be wondering if your incoming m/a is up to par ya know? Departments all over the place call in certain mutual-aid for one reason or the other. This fire was no different. WPFD called in who they did because they knew what they were getting and knew they'd get them in a reasonable ammount of time. Career depts. usually call in other career depts. on mutual-aid for good reasoning and who could blame them? Anyway, looks like WPFD and their M/A did a fine job, so kudos.
  8. In Buchanan, we do any minor work that we can in house. But for the past year or so we have been using Rapid Fire Services (Kevin) and he is amazing! He does scheduled maintenance for us on our rigs and will be there for emergencies as well. A few months back, our main attack engine would not start. We placed it out of service with 60-Control and called Kevin. He was at our firehouse in about 45 minutes and fixed the problem right away.

  10. Great pictures Captain, they really showed the effort made for this rescue! Also, hell of an effort by you and your crew. As stated, although the animal did not pull through, your crew still went into the cold water to make the grab. Its nice to see the compassion of FF's during such an incident.

  14. Thoughts and prayers to this brother and his family during this horrible time.
  15. Hey Kris, great shots, as always! Glad you made it out for this one. To bad your camera was filled with pics from your little ones b-day lol, just kidding. I'm just upset that you didn't get many shots of me, since I'm your hero . Rob, no biggie bro, you didn't miss much. Hmm, Vegas or a restaurant fire? Ill bet you were having a much better time. It was quite cold and it didn't help that a few of us got our boots filled with water. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't just water, perhaps vegetable oil and whatever else was in there lol. It was a long night, that's for sure.
  16. I wasnt going to reply, as all of you have already stated valid points. Im glad to see such replies and comments being made by not only the career members on here, but the vollys as well. It seems we all feel the same way. What pisses me off is that i would give my left nut to get on the job and i have no criminal record, not even a traffic ticket! One of these chuckleheads had 14 prior arrests and this other probie gets into a confrontation in the academy, like seriously? So much for through backround investigations, huh? Then again, this is the same City that passed over an over quilified, veteran FF for the posistion of Lt., not to mention all the other BS that MV pulls.
  17. mfc...i was thinking the same thing! Would Brookfield put Q's up for sale if they have no use for them? And yes, there are some great re-furb jobs done in PA, thats for sure (lots of ex-FDNY). bvfd...From what i get to see in VT on a pretty regular basis, this (ex-E51) could be a decent front line piece in many VT communities, albeit cold with the open cab in winter.
  18. Wow, real sharp looking truck! Seems to be outfitted quite well to meet the depts. needs. Definately enough warning power, thats for sure! Will this be a supervisor's vehicle perhaps? Nice to see a Durango, especially since there may be one coming to the Tri-Village in the near future . Best of luck to the Ardsley PD with their new ride.
  19. x129...I thought Yonkers was one of the few FD's that had proper staffing in Westchester? It is a very nice unit indeed. I would assume it would be staffed on an as-needed basis, no? Do the FF's/Chauffers have to have a CDL or any special licensing to operate this rig, other than driver training?
  20. FFNick...im just surprised that one of our guys knew how to get out of the Tri-Village lol! Ill have to ask around, but patches & softball sounds like it may be our Capt. Take care

  22. FFNick....haha that is to funny, but no it wasnt me. Perhaps it was our Capt., he is an avid patch collector.
  23. Thomas, NYSP has several of the newer Tahoes, one of which is stationed out of Cortlandt. Im sure someone else could elaborate though, perhaps INIT915 ?

  25. Wow! My thoughts are with the injured PO's, may they have a speedy recovery and get back to work doing what they do best! What a F-ing skell this guy is huh? Wonder what caused the bruising under his eye lol? It was so nice to hear that the judge was so compasionate about his injury as to postpone the hearing and let him get medical attention. I guess they gotta be or this guy could get sue-happy. Hopefully he gets what he deserves and rots for this! To any PO's on here, isnt there anyway that the DWI charge can be upgraded to a felony considering all the other offenses that occured? Oh p.s., you guys should read some of the readers comments on LoHud. Alot of negative things people have to say about the PO's...absolutely ridiculous!
