Seth, good question. Everyone has had good replies and explained it pretty well. I had no idea what the hell "double-clutching" was until i started working at my current job 5 1/2 years ago. One of our dump/plow trucks requires double-clutching (its a 1986 Mack). I was eager to learn how to drive it at first, but also quite hesitant. One of the guys taught me one day by putting around our lot unil i felt comfortable. Then, a few weeks later during a snow storm, i was assigned to the double-clutch Mack with an older guy. The older guy got tired of driving after awhile and was basically like "you're driving now" haha. It was the best thing for me. I just got in the driver seat and off i went with the little prior training i was given. It was a b***h at first i'll admit, but i got used to it. Now, whenever im called in for snow removal, i try and get to that truck 1st. Ill take it over the automatic any day! But as antiquefirelt stated, its basically depressing the clutch, shifting to neutral, depressing the clutch again and shifting to your next gear, all while keeping your RPM's at a certain rate. It sounds harder and more in-depth than it really is. Downshifting however, is a whole other story. I still suck at downshifting, but like with anything else, practice makes perfect.

Wow, very nice Chiefs ride indeed! I havent heard of Admiral Speciality Vehicles before, but it appears that they do a nice job. I love the red over black, gives it a nice touch. Best of luck to FFD with it!

Wow, really nice looking cars. The special detail car is very nicely equipped. Several law enforcement agencies assign take home cars to their members. I know a Vermont State Trooper who is assigned a take-home fully marked Crown Vic. I had joked with him that he should hide it in his garage as he had stated he has some less than "law-abiding" citizens in his neighborhood lol. Hell, id love to go out to the driveway in my pj's and sign on for the day lol. In his case, they sign on at the beginning of their shift from their homes and head out to patrol, only having to go to the barracks for arrests essentially. I also know that Connecticut State Police Troopers take home their assigned patrol cars. This also seems to be popular down south in areas such as North Carolina. I think take home cars can be a very good idea and asset. However i havevery mixed feelings about displaying the officers names on the doors. Seems as if it can become an officer safety issue, no?

Very cool truck! Saw it operating today on 9A at what looked to be a fluid spill. I had no idea that EFD took delivery of this rig. I came on here and what do ya know, heres all the info lol. I wouldnt mind us (Buchanan FD) getting one of these to replace our current rescue. Looks like its got enough space for the basic extrication, ems, fire & haz-mat equipment for sure. Also, it was a smart move putting it on an F-550 chassis.

Ahh, yes, a Happy St. Paddy's to all! To all those who are going out (NYC or other), enjoy & stay safe! This will be the first time in like 6 or so years that i am not taking in the NYC P-rade tomorrow . My friends and i usually grab a spot in front of the NBA store to watch the parade before heading to wherever the night would take us lol. A couple of us went up to Albany on Saturday for their parade. We found it by "mistake" last year and it was a good time, so we returned this year. Its not a very big/long parade, but its enough and a good time. Not to mention, open container is a-ok for the duration of the parade for those who like to enjoy a Guiness or two along the route . Oh yeah, i love the St. Pats skin, its kick-a$$!

Wow, what scumbags indeed! Glad to see the driver was hit with a felony assault charge on top of the DWI. To be involved in a serious accident (drunk or not) and taking off without seeing if the person (a police office in this case) was ok? Shows what kind of person these two nimrods were. To PO Carrol, best wishes for a speedy recovery and a return to the fine WCPD! I know when i was dispatching (few years back & not for very long) for WCPD, that was one of my biggest fears. Getting the radio call that an officer was in any sort of trouble. I remember some of the seasoned dispatchers & PO's telling me stories of guys getting hit by cars while on traffic stops, not a good scenario. Glad that PO Carrol is ok and will recover from this incident.

I like the post in the comment section under this article. The poster stated how this is discriminating against all non-minorities. This crap makes me sick. Im all for residency requirements. But let people take the exam, hire the best scorers and hire those with residency first. For example, id love to work for an FD such as Yonkers, but at this point in my life, i am not willing to move to that City. In knowing that however, i understand that if i take the exam, i would have a much less chance of getting hired. Its pretty plain and simple, no? Like someone else said, you want to get on a job that bad, move to that location/municipality and make sure you score well. Otherwise, stop the bitching and moaning. Lets give minorities points on the exams, residency points and blah, blah, blah. What more could we do....hmmm, hell lets just give the job to any minority that applies! Only "non-minorities" shall take exams and bust their asses to get the job of their dreams. I thought it was up to the issuing municipality to set residency requirements? At least, it should be, until the NAACP gets involved.

Ahh yes, Lake George is where we've seen this. This rig will help the ye old argument of "im driving"....."no way, im driving." Definately an interesting sales pitch to say the least. 210...just curious, which part of NC did you find this? I passed an apparatus dealership down there last month, but was unable to stop for some pics/tour. The photos that you posted look familiar, that is why i ask.

Like FFNick said, its not a Fire District vehicle, but it is definately bad-a$$ lol. What other Chief can say they have a bed and TV in their car?
-
Last i knew, there were no plans of getting a car for Chief O'Brien. They have 2 assistant chiefs vehicles, a newer Expedition (2492) and a newer Explorer (2493).

George, thanks for sharing the pics, look forward to seeing more. I love Mack's and this one is no different! It is a beautiful rig and i wish the DFFD great luck with her! Nice to see an older rig put back to good use. In this case, one depts loss is another's gain. It will definately pair well with the Tower-Ladder.

We got a new Chiefs car ? Hess, how the hell did you beat me to the pix? As stated, it is very simple. But guess what? It will get the job done and then some! We're not Long Island lol. This vehicle replaces a 1998 Jeep Cherokee. The Chief (2551) currently runs a 1999 GMC Yukon. Our 2nd Assistant Chiefs vehicle, a 1991 Chevy Caprice was taken OOS. This vehicle was long over-due for our company, may it serve us well. Id like to thank Tommy Grant & our trustees for their hard work on getting this vehicle!

Wow, havent been on in a while and must have missed this. Thanks for posting Rob! I did an internship with Peekskill PD for college a few years ago and got to ride with a few of these guys. PO Antonucci (now Sgt.) was a real cool, laid back, but aggressive guy. PO Falcone (now Sgt.) was one of my favorites to ride with. Hes a pretty laid back and quiet guy as well. But he was very pro-active and aggressive as well. He always had a great eye for law enforcement. Before getting on the job, he was a teacher in the Hendrick Hudson School District. I never rode with John Bennett, but he was on the 4x12's when i would ride. He was another young, aggressive guy who loved going after street crimes. Sgt. Parnell was the man, hands down. After one time of riding with him, he'd always ask if i wanted to ride with him, which was cool becuase he was able to pick and choose calls and wasnt limited to a sector. He was so chill and easy-going. He was really into Harleys and one of PPD's motorcycle guys. I would see him at parades and he'd always ask if i had taken the PO exam yet or "when ya gonna join us?" Congrats to the guys on their promotions and best of luck to those who have retired!
