Nice work YPD and the YFD Fire investigators! Kudos to the community members who came forward with the vital information that helped catch this guy, that alone takes courage. Hopefully the D.A. hammers this piece of garbage! Hit him with as many charges as possible and if only the greater ones stick, so be it. If the "system" does the right thing, this SOB wont see daylight. Unfortunatley, as others have said, he will get his 3 meals a day, visitation, recreation, etc. Again, RIP FF Joyce and best wishes for a full and speedy recover for Lt. Murray and FF Kanych.

I've said it before and ill say it again; if people b**** and moan about these salaries, then let them take the highly competitive exams to get on! Let them make all the sacrifices that these men and women make on a daily basis. As Seth said, these salaries are NOT that high when taking into account cost of living. Most of this $ comes from overtime, working doubles, extra shifts or details. Good for these officers, Dets, Sgts, etc that are making the money they are. They're out there 24/7/365 keeping us all safe.

Congrats to the guys who did so well on the exam! To those who did not, study for the next one and dont give up. Hopefully i follow my own advice and sign up on time for the next time lol. Dont know much about Dutchess, but i would assume that its a good sign that some of you are scheduled for physicals already? And is that the agility or just a medical physical? Either way, good job guys and best of luck to all of you!

My sincere thoughts and prayers are with FF Joyce's family and extended family of Yonkers Fire. May he rest in peace. A great fireman added to heavens ranks. My prayers are also with the injured members. May they have a speedy recovery.

Wow, great video, thanks for sharing R1. Its nice to see that there are still people with heart and morals that will still help those in need, especially these days.

Date: 09-26-09 Time: 1245hrs (approx) Location: Montgomery Shop Rite Frequency: Orange 911 Units: Montgomery FD, Coldenham FD, Glenham FD (Dutchess), Buchanan FD (Westchester), others Description: Roll-off dumpster fire with minor extension to the structure On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Buchanan & Glenham FD's were on stand-by at Coldenham FD as CFD had most of their apparatus in a parade. Buchanan E161 & Glenham E 43-11 stood by from approximately 10am - 4pm. At about 1245hrs, as Coldenham members were preparing to leave for the parade, a call came over for a dumpster fire with possible extension to the structure in Montgomery FD's first due area. Glenham E43-11, Buchanan E161 & Coldenham Ladder 205 responded. I, along with one of my FF's responded on CFD L205 with a CFD driver, FF & Capt., as BFD E161 responded with a crew and Glenham E43-11 responded with a crew & a CFD FF as the "GPS." We pulled into the shopping center to encounter a heavy smoke condition. Glenham E43-11 was 1st due (i believe), with Buchanan E161 close behind, while Montgomery Ladder (?) was the 1st due truck and Coldenham L205 was the 2nd due truck. The fire was located on the "B" side of the building. Lines were stretched from GFD 43-11 and Montgomery put their stick to the roof. CFD L205 was staged near the front entrance of Shop-Rite. It was a busy Saturday and between all the cars and people evacuated from Shop-Rite, it made staging a bit difficult. Orange County Car-? was on the scene as a coordinator and released CFD L205 within approximatley 10 minutes. We (L205) then returned to Coldenham FD to find City of Newburgh Engine Co. 4 and Car 1 (?) standing by for coverage. As soon as Buchanan E161 & Glenham E43-11 were released from the scene, City of Newburgh E4 was returned. I had the chance to meet and talk to the NFD crew and they were some really cool guys. We were able to share a few laughs before they returned to the City. I must say that this was a cool experience for me, as well as my crew from Buchanan. It was interesting to work with depts from (2) different counties and to see their response procedures. It was also a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. I thought it was a great call by the County Car to release the units that werent truly needed so that they could go back in service to release covering crews. There was alot of staring at helmet fronts and alot of "whos engine is here?" CFD's safety officer was conducting accountability and it was quite funny to see his reaction when he was told who we were (the 2 Buchanan guys on their Ladder) and what engines were on scene (Buchanan and Glenham). There were some people there taking pictures, so it would be funny to see them with the different apparatus there. It was also funny to hear Orange 911 releasing Buchanan & Glenham from the scene lol. A special thanks to Coldenham Chief Walt Miller (former Buchanan Lt.) and the rest of the CFD for the invite.

I got to see a City of Newburgh GK engine up close the other day. They seem to be a very well built truck and a company that stands by their work. Its nice to see these small outfits doing well. I asked the Newburgh guys, including a Chief, Captain and driver, how they liked their GK's. They said theyve been great, with no real problems. Lets face it, Newburgh runs the hell out of their rigs, they're definately not sitting for very long. If they can take the beating in Newburgh, from going on several runs a tour, driving on some crappy N'Burgh roads and being pumped alot, then im sure they'd be great for smaller, less active depts. Thats exactly what i said to the Newburgh guys to; you must look at busy depts to see what they have to say about their apparatus and how they hold up. Its great that some depts can buy $600k + pumpers and be happy with them, but all that $ and how much to they get worked? Anybody know price ranges for the GK's? Such as Newburgh or Poughkeepsies engines?

201/65...no worries, i understand. I def wasnt trying to post it as an Incident Alert because (imo), it wasnt really IA worthy. I put it in an IA format to make it easier to read the basic info. I appreciate you adding what i missed because like i said, i had no idea of who was who and what was what lol. I was definately in another part of the woods that day. I may not be correct, but it didnt seem like all of those units made it to the scene? Perhaps some canceled in route? Do you know whos ladder went to the roof because i could have sworn it was Montgomery, and Coldenhams Tower was the only other one there that i saw. AndyC3J...it was quite funny, but the timing worked out perfect lol. I was in Coldenhams Tower and the Capt. had a partial uniform on. When we were returned, he checked the time and was happy to see that they still had about an hour before step off. Our driver, Walt (dont know his last name) was in full dress uniform, white gloves in all lol. I told him he was the best damn looking truck driver ive ever seen! It was a sight to see alot of the guys in parade pants and shirts though.

Wow, well then....i stand corrected. Thank you 201 for correcting my post so in depth. Like i said, i had no idea how things work up there. I only know what i saw. As i said, City of Newburgh relocated an engine co, regardless of the unit #, they were there with an engine.

tjd....We (Buchanan & Glenham) were given portable radios to use for the duration of the stand-by. Chief Miller went over their Rescue-208 and all of its equipment as it was to be used by us for any medical or rescue calls. He also went over all communications and which channels to use so their was no issues. nhfd....who knows, if i looked hard enough, there may have been a Putnam company lol.

JetPhoto, it was a great response by all involved. The dumpster was filled with all sorts of building materiels and some tires, hence the smoke condition. Crews quickly stretched lines, went inside to check for extension and to the roof as well. Extension was very minimal thanks to the quick response. Despite the different depts being there, there seemed to be no confusion. Everyone had a job to do and they did it. It was actually kind of funny. We were approaching a 17k intersection where Coldenhams rigs were at a light on their way to the parade. Here we were lights and sirens as a Montgomery truck goes by en-route to the fire. Alot of people had confused looks on their faces as we were lights and sirens, but other rigs were just sitting there lol. I was confused myself as we were watching a movie in Coldenhams ready room and didnt hear the initial dispatch. As i was gearing up, CFD's Lt informed me of what the call was and to get on their ladder truck. I had no idea that it was a Shop-Rite and didnt even realize it wasnt in Coldenhams district lol. As we were responding, i heard Orange 911 talking about a fire in Montgomery at a Shop-Rite and all the units that were responding and then it clicked lol.

Wow, WTF? What a skell! Way too reminicent (sp?) of the Jercey City shooting just a few months ago. What the hell goes through these a-holes minds? EMSer, great point! This douschebag tries to MURDER Police Officers and there is bail set? As JBE stated, im sure he wont raise the $2mil, but its just the point. May these brave men have a speedy recovery.

Seth, nice pics, thanks for sharing! I agree, the Condenders are nice pumpers. They're very simple, yet nicely put together. Mark, i must say you're 100% right on the new vs. old logo! As the capitol of Tx, AFD should have a nice, classy logo and it seems the new one fits the bill. Best of luck to AFD on the new engines.

Ed, Buchanan carries a full compliment (spreaders, cutters, rams) on both E161 (rescue-engine) and R26. E161 has the on-board Amkus system, while R26 has a portable Amkus system.

MVFD, i gotta agree with you. Kind of ridiculous/unprofessional to say the least, abrubtly hault fire protection for your citizens. Dan, you make a good point to lol. I dont know many guys (in any field) who would have that kind of support. Ws it me, or was the article/video kind of vague? Doesnt mention the reason the Chief was shot. Just says over a "scuffle" about a traffic ticket? Did he attack a police officer or what?

Wow, how shocking....someone posts a great topic and panties get twisted over egos and opinions. YES everyone can have their own opinions and nobody should look down on them for that or question that. This website is for information sharing and learning. Its a shame that members ask questions or share their thoughts/opinions and someone jumps down their throat. This sounds like a GREAT program that WP has initiated! As an ever-changing and growing City, it seems that WP was looking toward the future with the City and its residents/visitors in mind. Kudos to the City of White Plains and its PD and FD! Best of luck to its members and as someone else said, hopefully they are never needed.

Hmmm, i was under the impression that they were getting rid of E123 (also a Pemfab i believe). I knew they were looking into a new engine and figured they would try for ALF. They did a great job scec'ing E122 (IMO), the newest to their fleet. Its a great short wheel base engine, which is a must for many of the areas of their district. Sad to see "Condo-1" go though.

Wow, I was surprised to see a pistol topic on here. Westchester is a pretty tough County as far as pistol permits. As many have said, you can pretty much forget full-carry. I have a target restricted license and it took 3 months to receive which isn't bad at all. Its a lot of paperwork and running around, but worth it in my opinion. I am definately pro-gun, but also pro gun control & safety. I don't believe that EVRYONE should be allowed to own/possess/carry a firearm. However, I do believe that any legal, law abiding, criminal-history-free citizen should have that right. Unfortunately, that's not how it works. I would love to be granted a full-carry permit to protect myself & family, but I'm happy to have a target only for now. As Moggie said, read up & take classes. Masaad Ayoob is an excellent writter on all gun topics. You can find his articles in Handgun Magazine and many more. As Sgt. Gumby stated, all the info you could need is on the County Clerks website. I must say, all of the people that i have dealt with in the Clerks office have been awesome. They are polite and patient for sure. TCD, as far as i know, you should have advised Westchester Co. when you moved and then got your Putnam permit. Ive heard its easier (not by much) to get a full carry in Putnam. Goose...yes, you need to "purchase" a gun before you hand in your application. You must list the make, model, caliber and serial number of the gun on your application. Its kind of silly that they do it this way. I wish they would review your application and if you're approved, then go out and purchase whichever firearm you please. I knew little about handguns prior to having my permit. So i just went with a Glock 9mm because i knew they had a good reputation and alot of LEO's use/carry them. On a side note, my wife is from Vermont. We spend alot of time there and are actually going there this weekend. Vermont is a pro-gun state for sure. There is no permits, no long wait (a few days) and no registering your guns. I feel there is pros and cons to this obviously. But its nice to go there and carry if i so wish. Also nice to go outside of my father and brother-in-laws houses, set up targets and fire away without a worry.

Congrats Chris and best of luck to you in this new venture!

50-65......I found this collection by chance. I wish i had all the info on these rigs, but i do not. The Dorr family owns the farm, as well as this collection. There was a guest book on the property that i had signed. Seemed like people from all over had stopped to check them out. I had found a phone number for the family and called one day, but the husband who oversees it was out of town and i never got around to calling back. I also wish i could have gotten some better shots, but as you can see, some of the rigs were real close to one another. Photounit...Class 1 is a designation used by alot of bigger city FD's. If i am not mistaken, it has to do with their ISO rating, but i could be wrong. I know that you see alot of California rigs with "Class 1," such as LA City and County FD's.

Well stated Seth! Its a pretty crappy day and age when an officer has to keep in the back of his mind all the BS that will ensue if he/she fires their weapon. As x129 stated, this skell is lucky he doesnt look like swiss cheese! That officer had every right to open up on him. Job well done by MVPD, especially officer Bates to have the restraint to not pull his trigger.
-
Wow, sharp looking car! I love the color and lettering scheme. Great lighting package as well. Seth, i hadnt realized that they made a CV with Flex Fuel option either, interesting. I happen to like the idea of slick-top patrol vehicles, as long as there is ample 360-degree lighting to keep the officer(s) visible/protected. It gives the officer a better element of surprise in my opinion.

SWS, beautiful job as usual! Thats a sharp looking car with plenty of warning power! Am i mistaken, or is that a "regular" Crown Vic and not a Police Interceptor?
