  1. Chris192 As for all the other criticism, when you're rolling up alongside someone and they glance over this logo is more subdued than a standard paint job so it will do the trick. I can attest to the fact that with or without push-bumpers, antennas, a cage, etc., people will do stupid things anyway so the operator of this car will have plenty of business. Chris, i couldnt agree more. When i would do my road familiarization (sp?) with WCPD, drivers would break many V&T laws in our plain view, regardless of the cruiser. I must say, the "slick-top" cars worked very well for awhile. As for the new ghost car, i really like the idea and concept and think its a great addition to the WCPD fleet. As more of a "highway" orientated PD, im surprised WCPD took this long to get one of these. I know that these cars have worked very well for other PDs nationwide, i hope that it will do the same for WCPD. Will this be assigned to a special unit or go into Patrol? It would be nice to have a special unit, such as an "aggressive driving unit" or something similar. Hey Chris, think Capt. Stasaitis will want one of these as his new take home lol?

  3. Is there any underlying issue here? Do you have any "beef" with said Police Officer? If so, bring it up with the PD, VAC and Town/Village/City Board. I personally dont have any issue with it as this officer is still serving his community. As stated, if his superiors have no issue with it, so be it. As Chris192 stated, if he was assigned to an aided case and had to wait for an m/a ambulance, you could be talking a long OOS time. So, if he rides the call, it helps everyone all around.
  4. Seth, I don't believe it was an issue for dispatch. The dispatchers just donned air-packs off of E180 & used gas meters to monitor conditions. All kidding aside, good question. Even as a former SFD dispatcher, this issue did not occur to me. I'm sure that SFD dispatching could be handled by 60-Control, no? As far as WEMS, is there another dispatch center, such as Northern Westchester hospital?
  5. Congrats ladies and gentlemen! May you all safely protect these communities and have long, healthy careers! *side note...How does one get hired by a D.A.'s office? I know of PO's that have transferred and become Investigators for the D.A.'s office. But is there a civil service test for these positions? Seems like it would be an interesting job.

  9. Ahhh, more snow. It sounds like theyre really up in the air about this storm (as per usual). Sounds like theyre not sure what areas are going to be hit and how bad. It hurts me in the pocket if it does snow. Normally, i'd be out plowing making nice OT. Unfortunately, im out on an injury, so no $$$ for me for the holidays lol. Stay safe everyone and be careful if you must go out. Seth, you said it right pal; only nice when you dont have to work in it, etc. Wouldnt mind it so much if i were at Killington lol
  10. Don't know if this is "old news" or not or if it has been discussed here yet? I read on another site that Maxim was going to make a comeback. They're plans are to produce a pumper that will cost between $350-450K. I will try and find the article and add a link. If this is going to happen, I hope that they don't skimp on the quility to offer competitive prices. Anyone else hear about this?

  12. Tim, as always, nice find and thanks for sharing. PCFD...Too funny lol. I have to agree with Batt2, those Continentals were hidious! Thank god Yonkers has come a long way to have the fleet they do today.
  13. Thanks guys for the reply. At first, i was quite excited to read this article and to think Maxim was coming back on the market. But, after reading into it and reading the replies to my post, it sounds better than it is. I originally read the article on my Crackberry, so i didnt see the picture of the new "Maxim" pumper. Now that i'm on my computer, i can see that it is nothing more than a Spartan Furion, as AndyC3J pointed out...yuck lol! Its a damn shame though. Maxim made a strong, long-lasting quility rig. This is evident when you visit many New England firehouses, which still run Maxims, some even first due! Heres the link to the article if anyone is interested: http://www.bostonherald.com/business/general/view.bg?articleid=1218747
  14. Happy Birthday Tim, hope you have a good one!

  16. When i first joined my FD, all members kept their gear on their POV's and would respond to the scene. Through the years, we realized that this practice was pretty useless and POV's would just get in the way. We would instill the importance of POV placement (far from the scene), but there were those who never seemed to "get it." Finally, about a year or so ago, we purchased our first gear rack that held 8 sets of gear. We let our most active guys, including line officers, have first dibs on it. That became so succesful that we recently purchased a 2nd rack, capable of holding another 5 sets of gear. There is also talk of ordering at least one more wall rack. I currently serve as Captain and my gear is on the rack. I have a spare set of gear in my POV, but RARELY use it. I feel that having members respond to the firehouse is imperitive. This practice will more often get a fully "staffed" apparatus on the road. The hard part is to get some of our "old-school" drivers to take a deep breath and wait a minute or so for a crew. Too often do we have drivers who get here quickly (+), jump in the rig and take off (-). It sounds great when "xyz" FD has a rig on the road in a minute or so of dispatch, but when in reality theres only a driver, it accomplishes nothing. It then becomes the old "smoke and mirrors" theory. I will respond to the firehouse 99% of the time. I will then get on our fireground frequency and advise that i am en-route to the firehouse. Sometimes guys hear me, sometimes they dont. If i get here and all the rigs are out, im happy. I will then respond in my POV. If i get to a scene and all apparatus is there, but without full crews, that makes me very unhappy. All in all, having our members keep their gear at the firehouse has been a positive initiative. It has drastically reduced the number of POVs on our scenes which is a huge plus. Nothing makes me cringe more than seeing the blue-light whacker parade going down the street lol. As an officer, it makes it easy for me to do my job. I will ensure that the driver waits for a full crew. Then, while en-route i can assign different tasks to my crew depending on the situation. I work well with most of my drivers and that helps as well. My drivers know their job and many know hydrant locations. I know they will get us there in one piece and do their jobs with little to no help from anybody. That means i can focus on the task(s) at hand.
  17. Kudos to the NPD officers who responded to this incident. Their quick thinking and actions no doubt saved these people. They put themselves directly in harms way and could easily become victims themselves. Police officers are often the first responders to arrive on these incidents. Hats off to them for their actions. Hopefully this will highlight the importance of emergency services for the City of Newburgh. I hope the City council thinks of these incidents when they're cutting fire and PD jobs. On a side note; do any PD's carry CO meters?

  19. v85...thanks for the reply. So i guess there were other test sites, figures lol. I never even thought about other sites for cross-filers. I was sitting in that cafeteria thinking "man this is a crappy turnout." As for the residency requirements, im with ya. Obviously, if im willing to pay for the exam and make the drive to take it, then maybe, just maybe i'd be willing to re-locate if i got a job offer as a result of an exam. As it is, my wife and i have been looking to re-locate to Orange County (Cornwall/New Windsor area). So i figured what the hell, ill take the exam. Best of luck to you with any exam you take, hope you did well on OC and SUNY.
  20. Anybody take the Orange County exam? I was curious if there was more than one test sight? I took the test at a school in Pine Bush and there were no more than 60-70 people at this site. I was bummed that i couldnt take the Ulster exam due to residency. I understand residency requirements/restrictions to a point. But if i (or anyone else) am willing to pay the exam fee and make the trip to take the exam, than why stop me? Its just more money that will go to the County, so why the restrictions?
  21. Nice looking rig for sure, especially since its red lol! Nice work YHFD on spec'ing this truck out. The Spartans have definately grown on me, they seem to make a good product. Best of luck to YHFD with the new rig, may she serve you well for years and years to come. As for the "old" R16; it looks to be in pretty good shape from the pictures. Would make a good rescue for a less fortunate dept. May even be good to re-mount the body on a custom chassis.
  22. Couldnt find anything about this yet on the forums. I also couldnt find the North County News article to link it. Just wanted to say congrats to Yorktown PD and PO's Dillon and Scatola as they have been asigned to the new Motorcycle Unit. Sounds like it was a long time in the making. Sounds like between grants and donations, there was little to no cost to Yorktown taxpayers, so kudos to YPD on that. Best of luck to them in this new venture. Beautiful Harleys by the way! On a side note, also read in the Journal Snews that Harrison PD may be selling some motorcycles.
  23. Sage, great pics, thanks for sharing! More importantly, where did you go for dinner lol? Oh yeah, and ill probably catch hell for this, but...go Sox! My wife and i spend alot of time in Boston, awesome City. Over the summer i was in search of some BFD patches. We were having a few beers at Fanueil (sp?) Hall and a nice bartender sent us to 33 Engine/15 Truck. What a nice firehouse to say the least, alot of history there. Got a few t-shirts and patches. I have pics as well but didnt bother to share because of the poor quality.

  25. Is the bull**** wafting over the River/bridge from Newburgh to Beacon or what? What is going on up there? Closing a house and laying off career staff? What a sham! Are they closing the house to justify the lay-offs or are they just a**-clowns all around with no rhyme or reason? Damn, i wish all you guys the best, i truly do. It would be my dream to become a career firefighter (as most guys that get on the job). But to get your dream job, just to be laid off? I really hope that the City of Beacon "finds" more money to avoid FF layoffs. When the economy went bust, i know my knees were knocking a bit. Ive worked DPW for 6 years, however i was still the last to be hired, thus i would be the first to go. Thankfully, things have cooled off a bit and it seems as though im safe, for now. Best of luck to the Beacon brothers and residents!
