  1. Nicely put George and thanks for sharing the pics. DC Wraftery, thanks for sharing that piece of history. However, it seems to be just that, History. You dont see too much professional courtesy much anymore and thats a shame for you guys. But as you said, it looked good on paper, until you read the "fine print." I had gone to the NYC parade for years. Whether i was skipping High School to attend or in recent years using a personal day to get out of work lol. I must say, theres nothing like it. For guys like me that worship the fire service, its an awesome time. Seeing everyone in their Class-A's shwoing their pride of not only Irish heritage, but the fire service as well. Its always nice when i get to see some of the guys i know from around here (hudson144), or friends from the FDNY, NYPD and Troopers. That has got to be such a proud feeling marching that route. A couple years ago, we were just about to leave the bar, when all of sudden the guys from the Westchester Police Pipes & Drums came in. Needless to say, we stayed awhile longer and had a blast.
  2. Come on now, whats makes you guys think the boys in Croton like White Castle ? But seriously, can we get that White Castle bus as a county-wide rehab unit like asap? That Dodge Ram is pretty nice...for a Dodge lol. Although my Wrangler could do just as good if not better off-road.
  3. Holy fire truck batman lol! Nice looking rig and well overdue for Cold Spring. They have a small firehouse & limited apparatus. I'm sure their apparatus committee took all of this into consideration. Looks as if they built this rig to be multi-functional to meet their needs. Best of luck CSFD!
  4. PHIL78...im not on the job anywhere lol, nor do i know much about this FD. However, years ago i looked into re-locating to Florida to persue a fire career. If youre currently on the job up here, i would think much of your training would be recipricle, no? May be something to look at. Although im not sure of their retirement system. Capt, thats interesting that they re-locate rigs to maintain their coverage, interesting. Thats gotta be a crazy job. One minute youre riding the bus, next you might be 1st due to a fire. How are Florida standards in regards to volunteer training? Are the volunteers in Islamorada pretty active and reliable?
  5. Hey Capt, my appologies as i just saw this question. Yes, my municipality empties probably 99% of dumpsters in the Village. They include a school, deli's, restaurants, nail salon, auto body/paint shop's, woodworking shops, metal shops, pool cleaning company and the list goes on. Some dumpsters are picked up by private carting, but very few in my Village. Private carting is more popular in bigger cities. Business ownsers would have to pay for private carting, where to my knowlegdge, there is currently no additional charge for dumpster pick-up by the Village. As for penalties, we've gone round and round with that for years. Unfortunately, the Code Enforement "officer" is not nearly as pro-active as they could be. Even when things are brought to theyre attention, penalties/fines are rarely issued. If we see something we dont like in a dumpster (or can for that matter), we'll tag it, leave it and notify our foreman and let him deal with it.
  6. Kelli, Sounds like an awesome idea! I will check with my FD (Buchanan), as i know we have a bunch of t-shirts laying around that im sure we would donate. We have alot left from when we took delivery of our last rig, Utility-12 (2003 Cascade unit). I will talk to them and try and arrange something. Also, if my VAC (Cortlandt) has any available, im sure they would donate as well. We have a meeting tomorrow night, so i will inquire and get back to you. God bless and best of luck to your husband and his fellow troops!

  10. The discount is based on it being within 1,000 feet (if the FD has LDH) or 500' if not and that it meets a predetermined fire flow for the area. They consider that it mus be "maintained" at all times. Barry, thanks for clearing that up, i knew you'd have the facts. The snow will still slow you down and drain manpower. Barry, i was stating this in regards to knowing the hydrant locations. But youre absolutely right, even when you know where it is, if its buried, it will most definately slow you down.
  11. Captain, thanks for sharing these photos. Looks to be a well planned out rig and very well built. I happen to like certain walk-around rescues and this one is no exception. It seems as though you will have more than ample room for all of your equipment. Dont know much about SFRD, but it seems that most of the fleet is HME. Is it safe to assume that you guys are happy with HME?
  12. Hey Jodi, for the price of those units, they should have not only sprinklers, but their own career dept lol!
  13. Nice pics, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you guys had a great day and awesome experience. These pics make me want to kick myself in the a** for screwing up on the agility a few years back
  14. Cutty, thank you for bringing this up. Yes, a job well done by the men and women of 60-Control, as the last couple of days have been unusually crazy. There were many minor calls to handle (wires, trees down), but there were also plenty of MVA's, some serious, and even a few fires. As always, they remained cool, calm and professional throughout the madness. I have dispatched in the past (PD & FD/EMS) and i know first hand how stressful it can be. Dispatchers really are the heroes behind the scenes and do not get the recognition that they deserve. I truly like when i have to call 60 via landline for whatever reason. I always try to be polite and will usually joke with the guys i know (i.e. "hey, its Buchanan, our Truck-1, the tiller, is back in service"). They are a great group of people and true professionals. Thank you 60-Control
  15. Earlier this evening I heard Battalion-12 advise that "the trooper has been extricated." 1 ambulance from Briarcliff & 2 from Ossining would be transporting. Anyone have further?
  16. Seth, good question. Jim, nice points. I must say that not enough people care. Hell, if I owned a house I'd make damn sure the hydrants were cleared. When I was growing up, I'd always shovel out the hydrants on my street. I feel that it should be up to the property owner. After all, aren't there discounts on home insurance when you have a hydrant on your property (Bnechis am I correct)? In the past during big storms, my FD has gone out and dug out hydrants. Working in and for the Village, I'm fortunate enough to know where most hydrants are. If you know their locations, the snow shouldn't matter. We have maltese crosses painted on the pavement pointing out hydrant locations. In my opinion, this is useless, especially during the snow. But even when the streets are clear, you can not see these until you're on top of them.

  19. KCRD...my thoughts exactly! Im sure there are plenty of non-essential posts in City Hall that could be cut. But god forbid. Best of luck to you guys!
  20. INIT, you beat me to you. I watched part of Mayor Amicones State of the City address and couldnt help but to think of the brothers and sisters in the YFD and YPD. The strength of the YFD brotherhood got them through the last rounds of lay-offs, i can only hope that they are as lucky this time. The Mayor seemed very stern and direct in his speech. I think we can all agree that Fire, Police, Public Works & Education should be LAST to be cut, but its never the way. I may be naive and ignorant, but the Mayor placed the fault of the Citys ways on the State and its cuts to education. I can see how this would affect teachers and the schools, but what does that have to do with emergency services? Ive said it before and ill say it again; im sure there are many other areas that could be cut without touching emergency services and education. Its a damn shame that when a municipality encounters financial woes, they want to cut the most important jobs. Best wishes to all members of ALL agencies that may be affected.

  22. Thank god im OOS lol. Unfortunately, ill be missing a LOT of much needed OT. We've had a relatively calm winter so far. Looks like Mother Nature is gonna lay the smack down before Spring arrives lol. Stay safe everyone.
  23. Sorry im late on this one. Was the driver injured? I was confused as this is pretty much a straight section of Rt 9. But then i read that there were witnesses who stated the driver was cut off by another vehicle. Too bad this other vehicle couldnt be located and charged. Maybe let him/her pick up the tab for cleaning up this mess. I see the truck was from Kephart trucking, which is out of PA i believe. I see these TT's all the time at the Wheelabrator garbage plant in Peekskill. As for the method used to up-right the truck...i dont see any other way that would work. Its not an easy job, but this method has worked time and time again.
  24. John, well stated bro. I couldnt imagine losing 2 brothers in the line of duty and then have the City reneg (sp?) on the locals contract. Also, im also interested if the IAFF sets aside funds for these times? I would assume they do, possibly funds from union dues? As always, well said Capt. Way to include facts and get to the point! If the City of Buffalo violated a union contract, which seems to be the case, then they should be responsible and pay. The issue should not be booze, as this was included in the overall catering cost. Side note - The bar tab at my wedding was over $4,000 and that was just 130 guests . I wont even go into how much the rest of it cost.
