Im all for having a good time, and parades are just that, a good time. They can be good for comradere/morale, but so can training and running alarms with your fellow firefighters. I think most of the members who have posted on here have VERY valid points and concerns. It is only a matter of time before something tragic happens and its going to bite someone in the a$$. Good luck sitting in front of a judge and jury explaining that someone died because your manpower and equipment were 3 1/2 hours away for a parade. Im just a volunteer, i like my house, my possesions and my freedom. Something happens and you can and WILL lose all of that. Your nice little firehouse will be closed down and that will be the end of it. Again, i am not knocking parades or for that matter, those who attend them. Personally, parades are not on my top priority list, they never have been. But thats just me. When i do march, i enjoy it and i have a good time. I just think that departments need to pre-plan a bit. Depts should not be sending most of thier line officers and 90% of their active members to these things. Chiefs just have to tell some guys "sorry, but im delegating you to stay back to answer alarms." Someone brought up associate/social members. Hell, if you can get those members to put on a uniform and march, thats great. Send associate members and a hand-full of active members, but leave guys behind to do what we're here for, to protect our districts. I too heard the countless Chief officers announcing the apparatus that would be "Out of Service for the Lake George Convention." I just shook my head. Maybe some of these companies did the right thing and left members and proper equipment back in town, i can only hope that was the case. Can you count on mutual-aid? Probably not since many adjoining companies were also at the Convention. Sorry for my rant. Again, i have nothing against Parades per-say or those that attend them. Just have an issue with lack of hometown coverage during these events. Hope everyone who went had a good and safe weekend. Stay safe.

Cape, thanks for sharing this story with us. After looking through the pictures of this job, its obvious that this could have had a much worse outcome. The structural damage is quite scary and could have caused so many more injuries. Speedy recovery to the injured members.

As always, great pictures Joe and thanks for sharing them with us. I have always been impressed with the way Yonkers spec's their rigs. They spec their rigs to be functional and not over the top. They spec them to their needs and design them to run and catch work. I must say that i like the side-view mirrors on the rigs for the safety of the members exiting the rigs. I also like that YFD has the bumper-mounted bells on their rig, keeps the history alive. I dont remember from the thread on here, but are these Smeal on Spartan chassis? Great looking rigs and best of luck to the YFD with them.

GFD70, thanks for answering me and clearing things up, much appreciated bro. I do have an eye doctor appointment tomorrow lol, but i re-read the article and it does say Greenville. So, definately a spelling error. But thanks for clearing that up regardless, i was quite confused.
-
The article claims that Greenburgh pays $220k a year to Tarrytown to cover the Greenville section of town. Im not trying to start anything, but im just curious if this is correct? If so, why is this done when Greenville has its own career department? As for Riverside getting a new engine, i hope all works well for them regardless. Ive never been involved with spec'ing a rig, but man, i guess i didnt realize how expensive engines have gotten.

Andy, nice shots as usual, thank you for sharing. Definately a nice looking truck. Where is TL46 located? I just have one issue...in the 3rd picture down, you can clearly see that the rig is blocking the hydrant

miami222, nice shots, thanks for sharing. What is the issue with trucks passing through the Annsville Circle? This is the 2nd such tractor trailer over-turn in a month or so. Over-weight loads, speed, both? Its a miracle that there hasnt been serious injuries. By the way, i love the shots of Stiloskis rigs. That heavy wrecker is bas a$$!
