Question...on Page 11, there's a picture of E324. Are those roll-up doors or are they just pained? It is hard to tell from the picture. Side not: I've said it before, but wow! These pictures are amazing.

Very well said LTNRFD! This was a big argument made by one of my evoc instructors (alsfirefighter). His argument was exactly what you are saying. Nobody should ever have to tell a driver to "proceed with caution.". If you're not already responding with caution, there's a big problem. Personally, I prefer "respond non-emergency.". But then again, some guys don't get that either. I hate when an order of "respond non-emergency" is given & rigs are still coming in w/emergency lights on. Anywho, sorry to hijack the original thread lol.

Chief, you have to ask lol? Im sure theres been plenty of "but the dispatched said return to quarters" over the years ! Wow, i love to see all this nastalgia! Thank you Tim for keeping Protection from the Past current! Im sure glad we're using plain English these days (for the most part). I have enough to remember/think about on a regular basis. Trying to remember these codes would drive me nuts lol. Id love to hear somebody use one of these 10-Codes one day and hear 60's reaction lol. Thanks again for sharing.

PFD....as JackEMT pointed out, many FD's in Vermont are very small and rural. Many "Fire Stations" are merely garages to house their apparatus. They are nothing like the Firehouses that we are used to in the metro NYC area. Security cameras are great and should be utilized in Firehouses. However, they may not always be of good quality and may not get a good shot of a theif. Glad to hear the rig was located and in good condition. Hopefully they locate the perp and charge him to the fullest extent of the law.

Seth, you owe an apology to NOBODY. This site was your creation and you need to do whats best for you bro. That said, i am very happy to hear that you were able to avoid a permanent shutdown of the site. I think its quite obvious how people feel about this site. I was one of the first 30 or so members almost 7 years ago (hard to believe). The site has seen many changes over the years, but has always stayed true to its roots. Now we have, what, some 12,000 registered users? Thats incredible and you should be very proud of that. So, thank you Seth for all that you have done to make this site what it is.

on the job....thanks for sharing these pics. Its pretty troubling that a person would put themselves (and others) in danger in order to heat their homes. Its also a sign of the economic times, which is even more troublesome. This is a prime example of why "everyday" calls can be a leaning experience as they can get you into homes & businesses. Always keep your eyes and ears open when on these calls, you never know what youll find and you never know when you may be back there.

I know little about the Canandaigua FD, other than the articles i have read and little research i have done. What i do know is that this City is flirting with disaster at the risk of its residents. To go from a mostly career FD to relying on volunteers is a huge step in the wrong direction to say the least. I am sure that the CFD and its Local have strived to be a good, professional FD over the years. Now, to lay-off FF's and go back relying on volunteers to cover alarms is insane. I am a volunteer myself and in no way am i bashing the volunteers. I am however, concerned with what this City is doing. I understand that this City, as well as many others are having huge budget issues. However, laying-off career FF's and relying on volunteers, especially in the manner that they have done, is NOT the way to fix their issues. Chief, thank you for the info regarding the VAFD in Canandaigua. It is quite troubling to hear that the VAFD has been added to EVERY response into the City. Auto-response to possible/confirmed structure fires i could maybe see, but EVERY alarm? Perhaps the brothers at the VAFD could/should request to be taken off auto-response? Let the powers that be in the City see how under-staffed and under-prepared the CFD really is. To rely on other FD's for day-to-day calls is absurd. It is not fair to the VAFD and other m/a, its not fair to the CFD volunteers and most importantly is not fair to the Career members of the CFD and those who have been laid off. I am not aware of the staffing levels of the VAFD in Canandaigua. However, i would assume it is similar to the staffing at the Montrose or Castle Point VAFD's, no? To take the already low staffing level and leave the VA campus on a regular basis to cover a City with such issues as Canandaigua is uncalled for and ridiculous. What happens when the VAFD leaves to cover an alarm in the City and theres an alarm back on campus? Call mutual-aid from another FD, most likely a volunteer one? This is a problem that will just snowball out of control.

Wow, absolutely deplorable! Nobody should have to work in such conditions. I like how the Common Council President trys to play it down. I wonder how he'd feel if he had to work there everyday? God bless and best of luck to Cohoes FD.

Here we go again in Newburgh. What a damn shame. 12 firefighters proposed to be laid-off? Im not too privy to Newburgh FD's staffing levels, however 12 FF's is alot in any small City FD. 8 part-time crossing guards may also be laid-off. I would assume these posts would then have to be covered by NPD officers? With all thats been going on in Newburgh, their officers shouldnt be tied up as crossing guards. I wish all the best to ALL City of Newburgh employees as this will be a bumpy road.

Thanks Rob and Tim for taking and sharing these photos. The cars look awesome, very well designed. 256 passed me on the shoulder of Rt. 9 yesterday while i was stuck in the ever-present construction traffic. It looked great to say the least. Best of luck to PPD with the new cars.
