The last of my FD pictures from my trip. These pictures are of Franklin, TN Tower-1, a Sutphen mid-mount. Franklin is just outside of Nashville and is where many of the famous Country music stars live. It is a beautiful area to say the least. This Tower was just sitting on the median near where we parked. I dont know if its crew was out on a meal run or perhaps doing inspections. Unfortunately i could not locate them to find out more info.

Heres a few more from Nashville. The first picture is of the department patch that is on all apparatus. The other shots are of Engine-2, an International/E-One. My wife and i happened to be returning to our hotel from downtown when i heard the fire alarm sounding. With this, the hotel started to evacuate and i heard a maintenance man say there was a fire in the laundry room. I took these pictures when Engine-2 arrived on the alarm. This was the engine that was out on a training detail when i visited the firehouse. Lucky for me, they ended up coming to me the next day lol.

Back in August, i spent my yearly week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This year, we decided to do a week in Nashville, Tenn following our week in NC. We rented a car and took the trip to the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg. While on the tour, we came accross an open-barn type garage that housed antique fire apparatus that was used by the distillery's Fire Brigade. Only got 2 pictures and couldnt get closer for better ones. The distillery also operates a modern pumper, which is housed at a different facility just down the road. Unfortunately, our tour guide could not find a fire brigade member to bring us to the other facility. Interesting piece of info regarding the distillery; it is in Lynchburg, Tennessee and it happens to be in a "dry" County. No alcohol can be sold or consumed within the County. The Jack Daniels distillery is only allowed to sell bottles of their product on site because they are considered "souviners."

A sign at the distillery and our tour bus.

Amen Ang! Many local FD's relace apparatus sipmly due to its age. Many times there are no major problems/issues with a rig when it is replaced. Many rigs still have low mileage/pump hours and are in very good condition. Ive said it before; ive seen many depts in upstate NY and especially Vermont that would kill to have our "hand-me-downs." Im willing to bet that the E-One from New Paltz could still be a decent front-line piece for a needy department. Anyway, sorry to derail this thread. Lets keep the pictures coming.

Bill, great shots as always brother. Its a damn shame when anyone loses their home, but even more so during the holidays. Was the family home at the time, were there any injuries? The firefighters definately had mother nature working against them all the way!

George, awesome pictures, thanks for sharing! I love that 65' Mack Tower.

Great looking truck, awesome work by TCD. I love the color scheme and gold leafing. JBB, Chief, thanks for all of the info, best of luck with the new U10. I test drove a 2500HD a few weeks ago and loved it! What an impressive truck, to say the least. Glad to see you guys went with a 2500HD and full crew cab, thus getting more room and power. A pick-up is a perfect fit for any FD. As stated, it can carry "non-essential" equipment that isnt used every day. Now, you dont have to tie up a front-line rig at a public service call which is great. It also can free up a lot of space on your other rigs. I also like the fact that you have an "extendo-bed," which makes access to equipment soo much easier. Also, good call by purchasing this truck equipped with a plow. I know that when Buchanan took delivery of their new rescue, they didnt want to tie up alot of compartment space with trash-pumps. There was talk of placing our trash and sump-pumps in their Utility trailer. Again great looking truck and best of luck with it!

I saw this on the news earlier (forget what station) and they showed some of the laid-off members stopping by a precinct to hand in their guns and shields. What a crappy situation and right before the holidays no less. My heart goes out to the NPD members who were laid off and those who will have to work harder to cover the loss.

Unbelievable! I too read this article and was pissed off. This just happened over the summer in Croton where 3 Sanitation workers were sickened, 1 more seriously. People really have no common sense anymore. I work Sanitation and it boggles my mind as to what goes through peoples heads. They will throw away ANYTHING and obviously never mark the containers. By the time its in the truck, its usually too late. Sometimes i think our truck is a ticking time bomb going down the street, very scary. At least in the Croton incident, the homeowner who disposed of the chemical was charged with several crimes. I can only hope the same happens in the Cortlandt case so that maybe it will send a message. Glad to hear that the workers illness was rather and its sounds as if he will be alright.

Woooow, scary stuff, but not at all surprising. We had an incident in Buchanan several years ago in which an employee at an Industrial Complex was using a gas powered power washer INSIDE! It came in as a male not feeling well and the FD was dispatched as part of the EMS first response. The employee was found lying on the ground semi-conscious upon the arrival of the FD Chief and Paramedic. With the signs and symptoms, the Chief had the FD re-toned and special-called for gas meters. The readings were 1000PPM+ upon entering the structure. I believe the PT went ALS to the Med Center. Speedy recovery to those affected. I too was curious if any charges (endangerment, negligence, stupidity) could be filed in such a case?
