Date: 06/13/17 Time: 0715hrs (approx) Location: Mount Airy Rd & Moores Hill Rd District: Vails Gate Battalion: 4 Channel: Weather: Hot/Humid Units: VGFD Car-3 (IC), R480, E479, NWEMS/ALS Writer: BFD1054 Description: Single car MVA/Car into a tree with entrapment Crews worked to remove both front doors. The drivers legs were pinned under the dash, so the Holmatro spreaders and chains were used for a dash roll. *Side note; VGFD responded to this incident with minimum manpower. R480 had a chauffeur, officer and 2 firefighters, while E479 responded with a chauffeur, officer and 1 firefighter. Car-3 was on scene in command. Members had the victim extricated within 16 minutes. I was not at this incident, but I am proud of my VGFD brothers on a job well done.

Prayers for a speedy recovery to the injured WP brothers.... Sounds like they made an aggressive interior attack and conditions got s**tty. Unfortunately, from what I've heard, they are far understaffed. Knowing that, these men still went all in and gave it their all. This is what they're trained to do and they do so for the residents and visitors of WP. Hopefully, the powers that be will see this as a wake up call. Now is the time to properly staff your FD! Again, hope for the best for the injured members.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Ironically, I recently had a similar discussion with one of my Lieutenants. I suggested writing up an explanation of the RIT/FAST and posting it on our FB page. This way, members of the public would have an idea of why we "just stand around."

Seth, my FD rotates drills and truck checks every Sunday (morning) and Monday (evening). Like many VFD's, we have many members who work shift work. We try to accommodate this by adding weekday drills and truck checks (usually Tuesday or Thursday). It works well for us. Gives everyone a fair chance at keeping fresh on their training and our equipment.

Sad for some involved. However it seems like the smart, fiscal thing to do. The article stated that there was a concern that there wouldn't be enough volunteers in the future. Why spend all that money if there aren't enough members to sufficiently operate? Consolidate with surrounding depts and let the Roosevelt membership join. Again, I'm sure this hurts for the members. But if it's what is right for the community, then so be it.

GOSHEN – Jauntae Brown, the 20-year-old Spring Valley man who has been charged with stabbing Justin Speights to death during a New Year’s party on the morning of January 1, 2016, pled guilty in Orange County Court today (Wednesday) to a charge of manslaughter. Firstdue...while I understand where you're coming from, you must think rationally. Why call Fairview (or any other career dept)? Because you know exactly what you're getting. No matter what you request (Eng, truck, rescue), you'll get it with a full compliment of QUALIFIED FF's. Call a volunteer Dept (especially on a weekday), you may get "uncle Joe" the 70 year old chauffeur with an 18 year old "officer" and god knows who else on the back step. There may be 1 or 2 vol FDs "closer," but a career dept may get there much faster even if they are "farther" away. Look, I'm a volly and know where your thought process is. But you have to think logically and choose M/A wisely. We have Newburgh on our run cards because we know exactly what we're getting when we call them. That is a very reassuring feeling. Stay safe

Date: 01/15/17 Time: 0920hrs Location: 2314 Route 32 District: Vails Gate/Town of Cornwall Battalion: 4 Channel: Weather: Clear/cool Units: VGFD C2, C3, R480, E481, E478, T482, NWEMS/ALS, T/Cornwall PD, T/Cornwall Building Inspector Writer: BFD1054 Description: Car into a building with injuries 0920hrs-Base-5 alerting Vails Gate for the MVA, car into a building, 2314 Route 32. - While en-route, Base-5 advised VGFD units of possible entrapment and serious injuries as per Cornwall PD. VGFD Car-3 arrived, established command and advised he had (1) car into a 2-story wood frame commercial building. Car-3 then advised that the driver (sole occupant) was not entrapped, but still in the vehicle in and out of consciousness. R480 arrived with its crew splitting into patient care and stabilization of the vehicle. E481 was advised to gain entry into the building to assess the damage. E481's officer advised of minor damage to the 1/2 corner, but the building was otherwise stable. Car-2 arrived and oversaw operations. T482 was directed to pass the scene and stand by at the Solid Rock Church for a possible LZ (Medevac was later cancelled). E479 and T484 (Sta. 2) re-directed to station-1 for coverage. New Windsor EMS/ALS arrived and took over patient care. Command requested the Town of Cornwall Building Inspector to the scene. E481 remained on scene for the building inspector, with all other units returning to service.
