  2. I'll second that motion Dan lol! Just got back from North Carolina and that was the summary of my trip. By the way Dan, Skoal is about $2.20 a tin down there!
  3. Not to get into a pissing match or turn this into a career/volly issue (as I don't think that was your intent), but.... Although the tankers are not from career agencies, I am sure that the members of the YFD are grateful for their assistance. I don't think this is the fist time that tankers from vol FDs have been called into Yonkers. Hopefully they can get the break repaired ASAP, but looks as though they have a real mess on their hands. Stay safe
  4. Ang and George, i have my truck on stand-by if need-be . Id never turn down a trip to the Keys to help a brother out. Glad to hear you guys are alright down there bro, stay safe! I have to admit, i was quite nervous when i read the title of this topic lol....
  5. Mike, 1st off, congrats on your graduation. You definitely deserved a getaway for sure. Nice shots and thanks for sharing. Always interesting to see other Countries apparatus. Glad you had a nice relaxing vacation.
  6. Sailr322... Great story, thanks for sharing. I love hearing positive stories such as this one. Sounds like another case of being at the right place at the right time. Way to go Jim and well wishes for a speedy recovery to Mrs Powers.
  7. nwpfdjr27, Great pics man, thanks for sharing. I have been vacationing to the Outer Banks since around 2005 and actually got married there in August of 2009 (in Corolla). It is a beautiful place that has definitely grown each year. The Southern Shores/Duck/Corolla area is unique as Route 12 is your only way in and out. I think Duck FD has just recently added career staffing to keep up with the call volume. I love the pics of the Currituck County Sheriffs truck. Call me biased, but I also drive a Nissan Titan lol. They even have their unmarked ones which are also white (blue lights replace the fog lights). We met an awesome Deputy Sheriff who was a true gentleman. It was while we were going down there to plan our wedding and we met him in a coffee shop. We were concerned with gettig some of our elderly guests onto the beach. He gave us his personal phone number and promised he would personally drive our guests onto the beach if need be. People down there are just so relaxed and kind hearted. I am currently vacationing in Sunset Beach, NC and will try and get some emergency service pictures to share. Glad you enjoyed your OBX vacation and I will agree, it's a must go whether you're single, a couple or with a family.

  10. Why is that Ed? That is what got me to join.... lol. Seriously, the video shows a good mixture of what the volunteer fire service is about and the people that are part of it.

  12. Yes, but the Chief did provide the good looks ;-)! John, kidding aside, with all the technology today, a YouTube video was a great idea. Best of luck with your recruitment (more importantly your retention) efforts.
  13. Ditto Jim, thanks for the info and please keep us posted. I was out of town for a few days and heard about the crash at the firehouse last night. Sounds like he is very lucky. Chief, you'll be in my thoughts during your road to recovery.
  14. I read this story for the first time last night. It was perfect because my in-laws, who are from Vermont, had just gotten to my house. I read them the story and immediately started with the "only in Vermont" jokes lol. Thank god there were no injuries. I'm sure this knucklehead didnt look to see if anyone was in the cars first. This guy is probably having some regrets once they tallied up the damage.

  18. Jim, i was going to mention Alfi's in New Windsor. We (Vails Gate) use them, as do many of the other local agencies (FD, PD, EMS, Corrections, etc). Alfi's Uniform shop 152 Windsor Highway (Rt 32) New Windsor, NY 12553 (845) 562-1404 Bobby, the owner, is a great guy who is truly helpful. They can also do in-house alterations. Chris, i think you may be right. Could swear i saw Class A's the last time i was there. Also saw someone i hadnt seen in years lol. RescueStuff Inc. 962 Washington Street Peekskill, NY 10566 (914) 402-5232 www.rescuestuff.net Ask for Greg or Seth, good people.
  19. Hey George, After all this time being retired to the Keys, does your class A still fit ya ? Just kidding with ya Bro, had to take a stab
  20. Rob, thank you for posting this. It is important that we remember these tragedies and those lost. I assume there will be a service this week?
  21. Unfortunatley, like many of us, i never got to know Lenny personally. However, i always enjoyed reading his posts because it was obvious that he was an intelligent person, who was truly passionate about what he did. Watching the tribute video really shows what kind of person he was. It was obvious that he loved being a Paramedic, loved the FDNY and loved life in general. You could see his passion of the outdoors and even get an idea of his sense of humor. Another life taken to soon, but one that wont be forgotten. May you rest in peace Lenny. Thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and his extended FDNY family.
  22. Jim, Maybe i missed it in the article, but did this crash involve a NYSP vehicle or a POV? Either way, hope the Trooper is doing ok. George, I could be wrong, but i believe Jim was trying to elude to the fact that the speed limit is very often ignored on the TSP. I dont believe he was suggesting that 50 MPH was slow for inclement weather.
  23. JJB.... I am 100% PRO GUN/RIGHT TO CARRY. I didnt want to get into a gun debate as its a sensitive subject to some. But TRUST me, I am with you 100% with you and your feelings as an LEO, as well as a fellow pro-gunner. I will send you a PM when I get a chance. Stay safe
  24. JJB, well said sir! Ya NEVER know when you may be faced with a bad situation and personally, I'll like having the odds stacked in my corner. A firearm may not be the end-all, say-all, but I'd much rather have one than not! RIP to the victims Thoughts and prayers with the wounded, the affected families and the first responders. Rotting in hell would be to easy for this skell. Cruel and unusual punishment would be fitting, too bad we're too liberal.
  25. I totally see where you're coming from. However, and I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but can Wappingers GUARANTEE that their own Truck will get out? Again, not meant to be a dig at Wappingers or any other Dept, just a little reality check. Personally, if an agency says they need something and can validate why, then I'm all for it.
