My dept bought each one of us a Gemtor harness, and it provides each member with a rope.YES, we do train with the harness'.We practiced going down the pole hole, and tying off with our personell ropes. If you cant do it before you get the harness, I suggest you practice,it might one day save your life.

This family should have taught this kid something about obeying the law.Everybody is quick to say that this is a tragic accident...BS This kid was there illegally and he got killed. If the fence did have a hole in it, too damn bad.If the fence at the top of the Empire State Bldg had a hole in it would you climb through?I doubt it.If any law suit should be filed,it should come from the LIRR against the parents. The LIRR had to clean up the grafitti and the kid's body, not to mention the shutting down the train line which adds delays. Its the parents problem now...

The clam doesn't remind me of anything but the smell of low tide

A wise man once said,"anybody can buy a big shiny new rig, with the word"RESCUE COMPANY" plastered on the side.Unless the people who ride that rig know what to do with the tools when they get to the job, it's just another expensive tool box. I see all sorts of depts out there, who with the help of a local silk screener make up their tee shirts with the word RESCUE on the back, and have no clue with what to do with the tools they carry on the rig.A RESCUE company, in my opinion is, trained personnell, with the knowledge and expertise to, at a moments notice be able to go to any job,and without compromising the situation, reduce loss of life,and/or hazard successfully. Its not the rig,its the trained crew, who make a good rescue company.

Who here remember's some year's back on I-95 in Mamaroneck, where a truck rolled like that .It was loaded with oranges and when it rolled, it landed on top of a car, and crushed it flat. I know that Mamaroneck called out for White Plains to use their air bags to lift the truck.Eng 70 responded with their airbags, and all everybody remembers was all the oranges. Unfortunately the outcome wasn't the same as the lucky man in this video.

White Plains PD ESU Truck 2 is a former NYPD ESU vehicle.I think they picked it up for around $1000.00.The rig looks pretty good out on the road, considering the abuse it probably took in NYC.

I have to agree with HFD23, I've been in the roofing business for over 20 year's,(side job), and without a doubt, a pitchfork is by far the easiest way of removing a slate roof. It's light weight, and the narrow fork's on them ,make it easier to slide it under the slate, and not get caught up on the nail head's as much.Slate, as we know is a relatively easy thing to break, start on the bottom of where you're going to make the roof opening, and get a good bite with the pitchfork, and snap as many of the slate as possible in one good push upward's, but be EXTREMELY careful as to where the slate will slide.Make sure no body is down on the ground under you.Slate is very sharp and will cut you very quickly.

The Volly rig is a parade rig. They don't get involved with any firefighting.

Class I of 1989. I think there were about 25 of us. Lt Rich Lyman (now Chief of White Plains) was our instructor at that time He was a very flexible person going through the academy,he was always in great shape, that when we graduated, we presented him with a life size GUMBY doll. I think if he could've fired us all he would have.He was a good sport about it though.

The Christmas Story.. or The Bad Santa. Funniest movie about a drunk santa and his midget(little People) side kick who rob dept stores during the holiday season. When asked what his does when hes not Santa, he replies;"well nothing till March, then I'm the Easter bunny"
