my 2 cents we relocate to yonkers, quite a drive if I am stopping at all the red lights. While enroute we get called to respond to 123 whatever street, going to be quite the delay. As for getting into an accident any way you look at it, there will be trouble if you were "screaming" to a incident. While I am at it, relocating is a dispatched incident, Today were we dispatched to the scene of a working fire in Mt Vernon, then redirected to cover a house. I agree once in town, near your destination, you can go 10-20. You should always drive with due regard where ever and however you are getting there.
As someone else posted, I think a lot depends on how busy the dept you are responding to is, and how far is the response.

I was recently given a book of old NRFD pictures and asked to scan them and post them. They are from the John Maguire (the midnight voice of KEF-934) collection. Many are his work.

That would require a regional approach to planning and training. We would rather spend our emergency service dollars on big stations to house expensive apparatus that will never have the staffing to get out the door.

Basicly it was untouched. Below is a pic of it with the replacement Seagrave Ladder 12 (1984 I believe)
Its last day in NR found it parked behind Sta. #5. We helped a volunteer crew from northern Vermont get ready to drive it to its new home. They were so thrilled as it was the 1st ladder they would ever have in there county. They drove it home in a snow storm, changing frozen drivers & tillermen every 20 minutes or so.

Since this is my first day of retirement after 20 years @ 60 let me tell you our protocols. EMS dispatch: no answer dispatch again 3 min later. No answer after 2 more min. dispatch again and dispatch mutual aid. Fire: after initial dispatch if no answer after 5 min. dispatch again. If no answer (and it has happened) dispatch again and dispatch mutual aid. Mutual aid run cards have been set up by both ems and fire agencies for their districts. Barry I understand what your saying if dept. x crashes, but what if I don't send anybody to the call in a TIMELY manor! The cad prompts us on all re-dispatchs. The buck does not stop @ 60 Control. It is up to each department whether volunteer or career to cover your calls. The cad will prompt us for the city of New Rochelle or Bedford EMS in the same manor. We run with NYS DOH protocols for ems and NFPA for fire. If you can't cover your call's start thinking about joining forces with your neighbor who is covering the call! Thanx for all you do and please stay safe!

gklein4 liked a post in a topic by Bnechis in Booster Reels Aren't Evil
The last engines we bought with boosters was in 1988 (when they were retired the motors had all been burnedout, the intake valves leaked and the floor under them was rotting.
We switched to a front mounted trash line and up till 2010 thats what all engines used. When we were replacing Engine 21 all of the crews said we do not use the trashline. We stretch what ever is needed from the rear bed and hook it up. Since that is what we will do at all fires we get better and better at it and in effect it is training.
We did add I-zone hooks, so if you need to get off a scene quick (like from a highway) or the hose is dirty and you do not want to pack it, it can be quickly looped up and taken care of back at the fire house.
Now that engine is busier than most of the the commenters (who favor boosters for the few calls) combined.

While in Maryland this week for a class, I came across this apartment complex structure fire. The complex, Seven Oaks, is directly across the street from Fort Meade and NSA facilities and many of the residents are Military families, although it wasn't clear to me if any of the apartments/buildings involved were Military or non-Military residents.
Sorry for the quality, I took the pics on my cell phone, as I had no camera with me.
Edit: Mods, if you could rotate the photos, I'd appreciate it. I cannot seem to do so.

Just wanted to extend a thank you to JBE... I had the pleasure by his invitation to see the main FDNY communications office at Metrotech in Brooklyn the other day while on a visit to FDNY HDQTRS. It was a very impressive sight and nice to meet and greet all the guys and gals who work where all the magic begins... Everyone was very professional and a great work atmosphere. Most people don't get to see what a difficult and stressful job it is to be a fire alarm dispatcher and these guys made it look like the rest of the world is moving in slow motion. These people are just not credited enough for the work they do behind the scenes; its truely incredible Just wish they'd give you guys a kitchen!!!
Thanks again Jimmy and enjoy vacation

I feel bad for this cop, he is going to be persecuted by the animals he protects day in and day out from this animal he was forced to protect himself from. Just like that other Brother in the Bronx, he was in a life or death situation too. When someone runs from the police they are just plain old bad! This isnt 1995 anymore where you can run as a kid from the police, you must respect the order and follow it, when you don't you send a big red flag up to the cops. Look at that dope from New Rochelle that ran because he stole some tires. Guy kills his own brother and now is going to prison instead of Valhalla for a week or two.
If you bring this up to anyone who is anti-cop they will immediately blame the police, but why do they not bring up the fact that this criminal was putting the lives of everyone in danger with her actions? I just hope the Brooklyn DA's office is not as anti-cop as the Bronx, which if I was on that side of the fence I would not do a damn thing for them.
Rant over!

I can't believe people are crying for this woman....
...this is pretty simple, if u drive the car you stole at gunpoint through red lights, collide with a minivan, hit a cop with the car door and then try to drive away in reverse, you might get shot. Oh, and you're going to deserve it too.
It's that simple, without bringing in that this animal was headed to court Friday to face multiple violent felony charges. All of this and people still cry and are quoted as saying, "she had her whole life ahead of her". I'm going to speak for society and say that I'm glad her life was snuffed out!
