Exactly bro, I mean there are so many other individual preformances that should have mention but dont, like Bradshaw, holy hell can that guy run!!! Than theres Strahan, Kiwinuka, Umenyoria, Toomer, Burress, Jacobs....they have all went above and beyond and helped this team get to where they are, but its always "Manning". And Manning didnt start to play well untill the last few games! He threw a TON of bad interceptions this year ( Looked like he was aiming for the safety on a few) and when chased he runs OUT OF the pocket and back another 10 yards so when hes sacked he ends up loosing 5-14 yards per sack. Instead of just hanging in the pocket and throwing it away or just take the sack for a SHORT loss. Just seems like they give him WAY too much credit. Anyways, everyone enjoy the game, Im sure we will have more to say next monday!!!!!

Definately for it, I need to loose about 100 lbs. and start eating healthy. Now if we can just hire someone like Richard Simmons.............JUST KIDDING!!!!! Relax!!!! Joking!!!!!! This is a good start to promoting a healthier lifestyle for firefighters, and cutting back on the LODD from heart related problems. Too scary. My father had a Massive MI at 46, had to be shocked and revived. Just scares the crap outa me. Lets promote this section. Moose

I was just wondering because I thought the PIO had special training in dealing with the press and how to answer their questions strategically so they dont stir up a hornets nest or give too much info out before its been confirmed. Thanks for both of your replies. I only want to take some pics of fire scenes that I cant participate in, for a hobby. I work a lot on the weekends, and I figure if I hear my dept head out, Ill follow them in the ambulance and take shots for the yearbook!! I was also curious about starting a dept photographers position for those guys who dont want to pack up. Thanks for your input.

Is there a cuttoff on distance traveled? If I can get a team together from Cobleskill, near Albany, We will love to be there. We have a '23 lafrance that we show off, and we would love to attend the muster. What events? Good luck Jim. Brian Jones Cobleskill Fire Department

Very well put. I have a question for you and Chris192 about the media. What if the dept had an appointed Public Information Officer, and they had a good working relationship with the local press. Could the PI Officer escort the press over the line, let them take pictures and ask a few questions, than escort them back? I would think that the PI officer would be a great assett ( sorry spelling) to any dept, Fire police or EMS, so that they can coordinate the press at large scale events and the press can still do their jobs. Another question for anyone. Fire Scene Photographers, and dept appointed photographers, are they given special leeway to enter the scene and grab shots? Or do they have to have special credentials like a department ID? Just curious because I too am interested in taking some fire scene pictures. In this case the reporter was wrong to cross the line after the police officer instructed her not to. It probably was chaotic for him to be controlling the crowd by himself and not have to worry about the press wiggling through the line and getting hurt.

That was very well said, and I agree with you. That is the way I feel, If you want to relax after a parade, have a few beers and have fun, thats fine...But make sure its out of uniform, and your not in charge of a truck or part of the responding crew. Usually we assign people to trucks so if there is a fire they respond and there isnt total chaos with dozens of guys running for the truck at once. ( I aint kiddin, Ive seen it and it terrified me!! 2 dozen firefighters running for the truck, and I was in the front!) Think Responsibly, and professionally, and use some common sense when representing your dept and the fire service. Just think of all of the articles in the paper about firefighters getting in trouble and the grief it causes the fire service in general before you pick up that beer. I do it all the time, I march, or drive the truck in the parade, than disrobe from my uniform, put the truck back at station and in service, than return to the parade and relax. I guess some of us just dont have the patience and just have to drink asap. Ruins it for the rest of us.

You missed my point sir. I am stating that Im tired of seeing critiques of youtube videos on this site. Is everyone getting that desperate? I like this site because we have INTELLIGENT conversation about important topics. I dont like to see some of our members going around LOOKING for things to pick apart, instead of starting a decent and educational discussion about something thats not going to start the "Paid Vs. Volly" or "Bashing" thing. I have 20 years in the service, and I am VERY professional. But I have also seen HUNDREDS of firefighters everywhere, at parades, drinking beer afterwords in the "Beer Tents", using "Beer Tickets" issued to them at the start of the parade. I have never, EVER, supported this behavior or tolerated it. In my post, if you had paid attention to it, I clearly stated how we work here in my dept. and that the behavior isnt tolerated. What I wanted people to see is that its getting real pathetic to see everyone posting youtube videos, and taking needless shots at brothers/sisters who are not here to defend themselves, instead of discussing something more intelligent. Can we please move on to more educational stuff that isnt already covered in COMMON SENSE. Its not my fault that some people choose to do things like that than POST the video. Let the individual officers take care of that behavior, and lets discuss more mature topics. Thank You. Moose PS- I was merely pointing out that the truck was motionless and in no way taking a crack at you brother. Further more, do we know the driver was drinking also? And do we know these firefighters responded to a call shortly after this video was taken? Thats my point...No one knows 100% of the facts...therefor we shouldnt be taking shots at them and making assumptions.

Hey everyone. I got a new camera as a joint B-day/Christmas gift, and I am looking to start getting active with fire scene photography. I hope to start adding some action shots to the site, ( just need to find the action!) and was wondering what everyone thought of the camera I have. Its a Fuji Film Fine Pix 2700 digital camera with zoom lense, and a whole bunch of different settings to take pictures with, like frame stabilizer, which it tells me is good for action shots, and different lighting settings for a whole range of lighting challenges. Seems as if I need to take photography in college just to use the darn thing!! Any advice for an amateur photographer? Any one have, or have heard of my type of camera? Anyone know of any good college level training for me to take!!! Thanks all. Moose

Hey everyone. I was browsing through some stuff and I realised that the EMTBravo group is almost 7,000 strong! I just wanted to congratulate Seth, cause I wasnt sure if he noticed. I have tried to recruit dozens of my friends and some of them might be here somewhere... But I just wanted to say congrats to EMTBravo, almost 7,000 members strong. Moose

Yet on the same token, you and EFD are stating that because a few volunteer firefighters seen in this video doing something wrong is an indication that it happens ALL OVER and that no volunteer dept takes actions against their members. Being you are both professional firefighters does that mean you are right? In my volunteer dept we have STRICT rules in regards to alcohol. Our station is dry, meaning no alcoholic beverages allowed on premises, not even for our banquet. When responding to parades there is to be NO consuption of alcohol by members riding on the truck. If you want to have a beer than you respond on your own and without your uniform. If we violate this we are terminated. But thats propbably still not good enough. And evidentaly its EFD that has the onion skin, hes the only one seen in this discussion loosing their temper and using profanity where its not needed. AJS was simply stating that it happens everywhere, and that it shouldnt be discussed here that paid guys are exempt from this discussion. And to clarify for those of you who cant see the obvious, the truck is parked along side the road, not moving, obviously waiting for the parade to start. The side door is open, and you can see the traffic driving by, so the guy who said the driver of this truck should be written up for allowing all of the distraction in the back to happen while driving should take a better look. On top of that, I didnt realise that a group of firefighters doing the robot was going to be the top issue here, and Im sorry a few of our members deemed it necessary to call them morons for that. Im sure that during a dept dance or banquet or parade NONE of the members of this site got drunk and did anything stupid........right???? We are all perfect little angels and never did anything remotely stupid??? I highly doubt it and think that this was a intentional poke at what happened in the video. I for one signed up for this group to participate in discussions about firefighting, and haz-mat and rescue ops and EMS. Are we getting desperate for stuff to talk about that we have to search youtube for videos to critique??? Just MY 2 cents.

My DPW is not civil service. My boss allows us to respond to structure fires, car fires and brush fires. We cant respond to smell of smoke, auto alarms, and cats in th tree calls. We get paid still for our eight hour day but no ot. The way I see it is we are not stealing from our town/village, we are still providing a service to our residents, whether it is patching pot holes or putting out someones house fire, and thats the way our boss see's it as well and he is prepared to support us to the end with the village board if it should ever come down to that. I dont see what the problem is, most everyone here is saying we need to provide a better service to the people of our districts, me included. But now we bring up the opinion of having local town/village DPW workers responding to daytime calls and all of the sudden patching pot holes or raking leaves in the village park are more important to the tax payers than saving someones house or even more important their lives. People need to make up their minds. Granted, our boss also agrees, as do I, that if we are paving a road and we have 2 pavers hired out from the local quarry, 2 dump trucks from our neighboring town dpw, and 20,000 cubic feet of asphalt waiting to be layed out than we are not responding. Thats the way it is and most of us have common sense enough to figure that out, but on the same hand we are not always paving a road. We pave roads maybe once every 5 years when the money is in the budget. But I guess there are different views from different parts of the state, especially on how DPW's are run and established. Up here we have no unions and no civil service DPW jobs, whereas down by you guys you do. I guess we need to look at it that way. Good discussion all around.

Congrats Seth!! Hopefully we will get 7,000 more members too!! EMTBravo 7000 members strong, and continuing to share our knowledge. Moose

I know where your coming from. Some guys in my dept come from 5-10 miles out, they live in the "boonies" section of town and are surrounded by farms. On a winter morning call, say 4 am, they need to dress, unfreeze their car, drive to the station and get in turnouts. Im not saying thats a viable excuse, but some people think that all of the small town volunteers can just jump out of bed, slide down the "Bat Pole" and drop into the "Bat Mobile" fully dressed and be at the station within a minute or two...its not going to happen. Maybe posting a schedule where you ask a few volunteers to hang out at the station for coverage, or even sleep there so you atleast have a driver that can take the truck to the scene and meet all of the "town" firefighters on scene. I have heard a lot of ideas kicked around, but none are realy feasible, and they all fall into legal issues. Just short of mandating that all houses next to the fire house be reserved for volunteer firefighters, I dont see how we can solve this without implementing paid staff atleast Monday-Friday 6a-6p. Good discussion, and Im learning about some of the legalities behind this stuff.

Those were great! I saw the first one before somewhere, but the other 2 were even better. Thanks for sharing!

I believe all of that would be taken off and locked securely in the patrol car or fire truck. Wouldnt it? I hope. That would suck if they forgot about it and the can of pepper spray blows, or the gun start shooting off. A while back we had a structure fire, and when a bunch of us got out and were being re-habbed, I look over at a friend of mine who is also a PD officer and hes taking his turnout coat off, and there in a shoulder holster is his handgun... I was just crawling behind him!! Would those things go off in high temps? Just curious.

Um, I work for my DPW and we dont have any unions. Not everyone has unions. I believe that would be a good idea. They already work for the Town/Village and have insurance coverage through them. Losing one or two laborers to go on a call will not shut down the operations, so the "City" will still function...heaven forbid the potholes dont get filled right away while someones house is burning. I think its a good idea, but Im not sure about the legal aspects of it. This truly has run of course. I believe the 10 minutes is a long time to wait, but like was posted so many times already, with volunteers we have a hard time leaving work for calls. Some of us work 2 FT jobs and dont get to see our kids and family. And with some depts who get out fast....with only a driver??? What good is that??? The truck shouldnt roll without a crew that can actually do some good. Otherwise the truck is useless. Im all for paid staffing, todays fire service demands it. We need higher training standards and quicker response times. The people we protect are who we need to think about.

Im beginning to believe that a few of you exist on this site just to jump on every little thing you see wrong. As mentioned in earlier posts, this is an older truck being replaced this month. Members of the dept have stated they understand its not safe and its being replaced. I know some of the guys in Port Chester myself, 2 of them are my in-laws, and I agree, dont bash these guys. Lets move on to the topic of the post. Ladder 31 responding to a call. Its a nice older truck and I LOVE the "Q"! My only question is what was the call they were responding to?

Thanks for all of the advice, and especially the links. They were both usefull. Thanks brothers. Hopefully, If I can catch a job Im not fighting, I will post some pictures here soon. Thanks again. Moose

I believe the problem with young officers today is the fact that they are always around the firehouse, live at home still and are able to take all the training they can get, and dont have family priorities or home priorities to take care of. They are always around so thats what the dept will want, not taking into consideration they are un-experienced. I remember when it took a good ten years before you were even considered for a promotion...oh well. You guys made me feel old! Reading all of this stuff I nodded in agreement with about 99% of it!! Todays youth just doesnt understand how easy they have it. Fun topic!!

Dont get me started...TOO LATE Its all about the power trip. When you get a nice radio, and pretty red lights with a siren, and a different color coat and helmet, suddenly your transformed into a "Boss". People let it go to their heads and start barking orders at people even though they have no idea what they are talking about. Its the POWER thing. They all have to go to the scene so they can be IC and bark orders. I think the only ones that should be ALLOWED to go to the scene is the Chief Officers. I believe ALL line officers should go directly to the station, and NOT have a mobile radio in their cars. Even then, I think it should only be one chief, as soon as there is a chief officer enroute to the scene, the remaining chiefs should go to the station and drive trucks. There are some fires in my county you will very well see 12-15 chiefs wandering around!! What for??!! The other thing that burns me is when one department calls another dept mutual aid for manpower...than you hear 3-4 of their chiefs go enroute with the manpower...WHY? Send a line officer with the manpower and they will take charge of the crews. You dont need 20 chiefs wandering around doing nothing when your screaming for engines or tankers that you cant get because there is no drivers, there is no call for that. Put a white coat on people and suddenly they think their only job is wandering around with a portable radio and point fingers and shout orders...WRONG. I give credit to one of my chiefs though, when he was elected he stayed in his black turnouts and he still rides trucks and packs up and gets dirty. When hes needed to be IC he will step up and take the role, if there are other chiefs he packs up and fights fire and drives trucks. He does what is needed of him and his skills.
