I attended it and it was pretty good. They had alot of good speakers there with some interesting topics. The turnout was also pretty good, considering that it was a first year conference.

Cool story! Get Home Safe Guys. Thank you so much for everything your doing to protect our freedom and keep us safe.

I agree with this. I don't see a problem with calling it in and following the suspects AT A SAFE DISTANCE (no lights, no sirens, obeying ALL traffic laws) to update to the police on the location of the suspects. But at no point I feel should you engage in a pursuit (lights and sirens) with armed suspects or any suspects for that matter because you could very well make them more reckless putting more people at risk. Things could go really bad really quickly. How is a fire truck suppose to keep up with a car at high speeds? It won't, thats not what it was designed for. You should only do what you are trained and equipped to do. However, I'm glad everything turned out ok.

i would immobilize the knife to keep it from moving, i can't tell how long that knife is and i would much rather wait for the dr to tell me at the hospital cause removing it onscene could cause much more damage. once the knife is secure i would transport as fast as possible to the nearest trauma center.

Congrats and good luck to the new hires.

Rest In Peace Ralph Russo. My thoughts and prayers go out to Ralph's family, friends and fellow firefighters. God Bless.

I like the idea, and don't see a problem with it taking more time, what another 2 seconds? Everyone knows who there getting dispatched by so it shouldn't be that hard. Great idea.

I can not speak on behalf of dispatchers or career departments, but as a volunteer I feel I have also seen a decline in volunteer's attitude and motivation. I have only been volunteering for about 4.5 years but in that time i feel that i have seen a very large drop in volunteers. I find it to be a real shame. I love volunteering as an EMT and take great pride in it and even considered going career but decided against it for my own personal reasons, but i just dont know what has changed peoples attitudes all of a sudden, maybe I just wasn't seeing it before. I just hope to start seeing a change for the better.

I was just on the Westchester DES website and it really only showed online courses for EMS. However it did make mention that if you join Westchester Emergency Volunteer Reserves (WEVR) that they would provide you with free training in many different areas. I just don't understand why they can't make this training and other training available to EMS providers because chances are we are gonna get dispatched to calls where this training could be useful.

First, read the textbook and ask lots of questions, you have nothing to lose by asking questions and have a lot to learn. Practice your skills on family and friends, when I was in the class I was doing BP, pulse, and lung sounds on my family and friends all the time and it helps, practice makes perfect. Also if you are currently on an ambulance, ask the crew questions if you dont understand why or how they did something, and you can also practice your skills with them. Good luck and stay safe.
