  1. Didn't they change the exit from MTV Avenue to Oak Street about 12 years ago? All that work for nothing.
  2. Perhaps the worst advice I have ever, EVER heard.
  3. This thread is in 'Incident Workshop', meaning that the posts should have something to do directly with the incident itself. If you want to put together a get well soon/condolence thread then post it in the proper forum.
  4. I know this may be a silly question, but are you using SDTV or a HDTV signal? The best LCD in the world will not make a SDTV signal look 'good'.
  5. In some jurisdictions a dispute will still get 2 2 man cars, meaning 4 people showing up for something that doesn't need 4 people. For a call of a robbery, for example you still need to send 2 cars no matter what because one is doing the canvass for the suspect meaning that 4 people are going on that call instead of 2-3. Most calls don't even need the second person as most calls are simple 'report only' calls, such as any past burg, past criminal mischief, MVA or past larceny. Don't get me wrong, if a department can spare enough people to do all 2 man cars then go for it. However a one man car means more visible police presence and a smaller distance to respond. Don't forget that the marked/uniformed patrol units are usually not the only units on the road, you have all the K9, ESU, traffic, bicycle, street crime, detective/narcotics and walking posts out there too that are out and available to respond, but not responsible to answer the radio.
  6. Is it out of the realm of possibility to think that the unit at the funeral is a spare or maybe that it is the front line vehicle but the spare is in service in the town?
  7. I know that that is the 400 block of South 7th Avenue, but don't know the date, but I'll guess about 1993.
  8. Simple, 99 percent of the time you are jumping out at someone, there isn't an opportunity to say 'hold on a second Mr. Perp, I have to put my latex gloves on. Secondly, it is far easier to 'feel' what you are looking for with your bare hands. I have never put my hands in someone's pocket without frisking the pocket first.
  9. And just some abbreviations: RMP-NYPD Patrol car (Radio Mobile Patrol) REP-NYPD ESU Truck (Radio Emergenct Patrol) HazTac-EMS' HazMat 'name', specially trained EMTs and medics Rescue-EMS' 'Crush/Confined Space Medics SOD-Special Operations Division (both for FDNY, EMS and NYPD, they provide specialized services) Atom-The EMS 'sector' system, loosely based on the NYPD 'sector' system, it tells the computer the approximate location of the call CAD-Computer Aided Dispatch SPRINT-NYPDs CAD system, also viewable by EMS, but NOT Fire, messages from EMS to PD and the reverse come through this StarFire-FDNY's CAD system, NOT viewable by NYPD or EMS, but the initial call type is sent to StarFire through SPRINT Suppression- What FDNY EMS calls Fire CSL-Cross Street Location, the place where an ambulance is supposed to sit at when available (10-89 in the CAD system) 10-13--MOS (no matter what service) need emergency assistance, PD will respond on EMS 13 automatically, as does EMS on PD's, but FD is not usually assigned Bus-An ambulance, no matter what type 'The Privates'-any transport ambulance, they are not part of the 911 system 'The Voluntaries'-any of the hospital/Transcare 911 ambulances 'The Vollies' AKA 'The Whackers' AKA 'The Buffs'- any of the volunteer ambulance corps Central- The dispatchers radio designation Those are the ones of the top of my head that I have seen here. I am well versed in the PD and EMS ones, not so on the FD ones.
  10. That is now 49X, with a CSL of Steinway and Broadway, 45R is out of Woodside with a CSL of Queens Blvd. and 39th St.
  11. 12. I'm hearing from a friend that there is no more OLM EMS as we know it in the North Bronx. What happened?
  13. What 'insults' are we talking about here? I keep seeing people post that 'horrible filth' is posted about people here but I don't see it. We AREN'T posting anonymously at this point anyway, the moderators/admins have access to our names and departments, so anything truly 'out of line' is traceable. I just don't see the point, but I'll guess I'll just bury my head in the sand again and believe that having someone's first name and department will keep the 'evil comments' off of an internet message board.
  14. The internet exists and still operates on the idea that you CAN be anonymous. I think that mandatory identification is a horrible idea.
  15. As stupid as that was, I'm surprised that he didn't just park the car right in front of the building.
  16. This car is totally legal as is AS LONG AS THE LIGHTS ARE NOT ILLUMINATED. You can have a red and blue colored lenses on a lightbar of any vehicle, however it can not be illuminated. I have that car's big brother, the 300C SRT8. It would make one heck of a pursuit vehicle.
  17. CYA medicine is bad medicine. I can not wait for these horrible protocols relating to the blind boarding of MVAs and shots to go the way of blodletting.
  18. All NYPD ESU are at least EMTs and they have plenty of paramedics, RNs and even some PAs and MDs. They became an ALS agency in 2004, IIRC, but limited to tactical only operations so as to not upset FDNY EMS.
  19. I know its not funny, but for some reason I just had to laugh.
  20. There is no right to privacy at work, period. It's a shame that they think otherwise.
  21. Looks like an 'oh well' moment to me, not something that was truly 'wrong'.
  22. So true that its NOT funny anymore.
