  1. Uh, the answer is in x635's post. It's a FR agency only, they still have to call for a transport.
  2. A cop car that looks like a cop car brings pride to the people driving it. Cop cars look a lot like taxis in a lot of places, the black and white is unique to emergency vehicles. As for the price, as of 2008 both Dodge and Ford offer black and white cars as no cost options.
  3. Sounds like a good idea to me.
  4. I don't see why we can't consolidate ALL the different police and fire departments into one. The people will complain about the lack of 'community policing, knowing your police officers', but I bet they'll be far happier with the 1000 dollar smaller tax bill they'll get. The many fiefdoms of Westchester lead to confusion on so many levels that the consolidation idea MUST be explored again. Yes, we can roll Yonkers and Mount Vernon and White Plains into a Countywide system. Will be it easy? No. Will it be cost effective and safer for everyone in the long run? Yes.
  5. Depending on ESU is a very false sense of security. In situations like this time is essential. If ESU is immediately available fine, let them respond in. However ESU responds to aideds, MVAs, EDPs and a host of other things meaning that usually they will not be immediately available. What has to happen is better training for ALL police officers and a rifle and shotgun (along with O2 and an AED) in every car. Depending on ESU to save the day leads to weaker cops, just as sending a medic to EVERY medical call can lead to a weaker EMT ( he will never have to deal with an unstable patient by himself all the way to the hospital.)
  6. Certain calls are dispatched as the NYSPIN (New York State Police Information Network) date entry types. File 1's are stolen cars, File 6's are missing youths, File 16's are stolen plates, etc....
  7. Unbelievably bad news. Godspeed Brothers. My sincere condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.
  8. MVPD has an absolute policy to leave the barbs in for removal AT THE HOSPITAL by hospital staff only and that ALL people tased HAVE TO be transported by EMS. I find it literally impossible for them not to have realised that she had been tased since 1.) the barbs would have still been in 2.) EMS transported her in and 3.) PD would have, without a doubt been transporting with her and would have been at the hospital with her.
  9. Well that was dumb, if this is in fact true. Wonder what was so pressing?
  10. It's surprising that they wouldn't use safety markings if they were coming up with a new design....
  11. Good to see that someone is making an effort to increase safety. I still think that the sides should have been traditional Battenburg Markings squares, but well, its not up to me. Good luck with it RPS.
  12. We only us the number code, not the K(W), though that is part of the NYSPIN symbolic...
  13. If I remember correctly there are fulltime Ambulance 1 and 2, with Ambulance 3 being a BLS between something like 7a to 7p. Transcare will send 'transport buses' into the city as call volume allows. TransCare also carries New Rochelle with similar staffing levels.
  14. Those Hybrids will 'see' patrol duty much the same way the Tahoe Hybrids do. They will only be operated by Captains and Deputy Inspectors, the patrol guy will never, ever see them.
  15. You have absolutely no expectation of privacy while in public.
  16. There are still ambulances that don't carry AEDs, why would you think that every ambulance would carry Epi-Pens?
  17. What would transport times have to do with a mini-mod? As for the safety, I also don't see a difference.
  18. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Godspeed.
  19. Transcare has about 15 NYC hospital 911 contracts, I would assume it would take far less time to get into 911 with then than with a company that has one city (yonkers) and kinda sorta another (Mt. Vernon).
  20. Hate to bring it up, but I saw between the Eastchester, Pelham Manor and Yonkers alarms that the entire lower county was busy, but I didn't see Mt. Vernon in any of the rundowns. Were they not available or just not requested?
  21. Not at all illegal, but in bad taste. On the flip side I have had a PD '10-13 with a confirmed cop shot where I was flying up the street in the ambulance and both marked and unmarked RMPS were pulling me over and letting me pass them. That was an odd experience but in retrospect they did the right thing.
  22. Technically they aren't certified police officers yet. About 2 years ago DCJS made post academy field training a part of the curriculum. I think they need to do something like 5 or 6 weeks more training to be certified.
  23. Well, a White Plains ladder ended up in Mount Vernon and Eastchester was the second due, so..... Mount Vernon's total lack of caring for its infrastructure is almost criminal. You have fire stations literally condemned, obsolete trucks, 30 year old DPW equipment and an archaic Police fleet. What total mismanagement.
