  4. In the Safety Vehicle, the driver side is basically set up the same way with the Handi-Talkie Battery Charger, TIC Charger and Flashlight charger. On the passenger side we have a battery charger and we have stored our medical bags there for easy access. In the rear compartment we have a Command Board, IC Vests, Life Jackets, Mobile Repeater, RIT Pack. We too are at a future date are to have a draw installed in the back along with an Air Pack Holder. When I am working again I will take some pictures of the set up and post them under the New YFD Safety Vehicle Topic.
  5. Geez... I'd better be careful then when your aide is driving me when I have to work B2, he'll be pushing it all the time. His luck... he will press it and it will short out and eject him instead of me!!!.... now wouldn't that be so typical...lol
  6. Well said Joe. It was very much appreciated by everyone. It doesn't matter what the patch on our uniforms read, we are all one large brotherhood and family and we all saw that today. Thank You

  8. There is in New York, but only for new construction since December 29, 2004. http://www.dos.state.ny.us/code/trussID.htm
  9. I know this doesn't directly pertain to The XJ 85® I-joist from Georgia-Pacific, that Barry originally posted for us. I received a link to WISN (an ABC affliate) from Milwaukee on a news video back in Nov. 2008. I don't know if anyone has seen this video or a link was posted here previously. But it has to do with Wood I Beam Joists (TJI) and effects on them under fire conditions. http://www.wisn.com/video/17971947/index.html I noticed on the website that they added a two more segments to this story on March 18 & 19, 2009. Here is the link to those videos: http://www.wisn.com/video/index.html All three videos can be found on the menu of videos below the video player on the website.
  10. "Find your ductwork's happy place. Run it in conditioned space." Should be re-phrased to read: Find Your Ductwork's Happy Place. While Increasing a Firefighters Chance In Going to the Pearly Gates.
  11. Sad News to hear. RIP Condolences to his family & friends. A lot of credit to his fellow band members; to be able to continue on with the rest of the parade route. It had to be very difficult for them.
  12. If I remember correctly, I do not believe that the Poughkeepsie Journal or local news media reporting anything about TRT's being called in or on stand-by. Just that the New Hamburg FD, Poughkeepsie Town PD, Mobile Life and a private heavy equipment company. Not saying there wasn't one called in, but that's how it was reported. Obviously someone from the FD involved would be the best to answer that question, as previously stated.
  13. Dan, It was nice meeting you too. Nice pic, thanks for sharing them. (Especially being that my daughter was one of the girls carrying the band banner and the wife "left" the camera at home as she ran out of the house).
  14. Zing..that's gotta hurt That's why I would go with his answer anyway.... rumor has it that he will be going to Batt 1.
  15. Yikes... At least the guy on the ladder in PPE was using the buddy system and backing him up to keep him from falling off the roof and getting injured!!!
  16. You make valid points and I am not going to argue with you over your opinion. I respect it. My 2 cents: I wish everything could return to as it was before 1/2/09 for everyone's sake but it doesn't appear that it will as of now. 6 FF's are now out of work with no income and 17 Lt.s have been demoted to the rank of FF. If having to work one chart tour helps 6 of my fellow co-workers and brothers to be re-promoted and 6 of them re-hired, so they can support themselves and their families, I don't mind doing it at all. I look at it, what if I were in their shoes what would I do. I wonder how many people currently laid off in the private sector wish they could have had an opportunity that we were able to give our fellow co-workers/brothers? The way the national and state economies are circling the drain right now, we may have only put off the inevitable till June/July (unless NYS gets aid from the Feds). I hope and pray that I am wrong. But at least the 6 re-hires get an income for the next 5-6 months and can plan accordingly, if the worst case scenario should happen again, which I hope it does not. The city will be in a better position to try to offset the projected 105 million (if it is really that) projected deficit. But how much can they really raise taxes? Giving what is going on right now, can you see Yonkers homeowners, get hit with a large tax increase come July, they will go ballistic and how does the homeowner who recently lost his/her job afford to pay that or any tax increase for that matter? What is going on right now in this country economically has never been seen by most of us, and most likely you would have to go back to several generations to relatives of ours that have seen anything worse. The ironic thing is, all of us in Public Safety are sworn to protect serve and help the people who live in our respective communities and for the most part are total strangers to us; but when it comes to our fellow co-workers and basically our 2nd Family we turn our backs on them? I for one can't.
  17. Chris, Yes, any FF or Fire Officer who works their "chart day", (as it is actually referred to in the contract) will be fully covered, as if they were working their normal tour of duty.
  18. There will several news stories interviewing Greg and another Firefighter (Kyle Thomas), who is also slated to be laid off. Tonight 12/31 - Channels 5 & 9 @ 5PM & 10PM, Channel 11 @ 10 PM and Channel 7 @ 5PM. Hopefully this situation works out for everyone involved and no one gets laid off or demoted. It will be devastating to morale and the job as a whole.
  19. To help answer 61MACKBR1 question in regard to companies and locations in the history of the YFD. I put together a database of our old Fire Pull Boxes (in service from June 1, 1934 to July 17, 1980) with their locations and assignments, a few years back for our now retired Capt. Tobin (Capt of Training and Dept. Historian). Part of that database was putting together a listing of our fire companies and any information pertaining to them (from the history he had put together and old dept. orders). I believe most of the info is accurate but can not guarantee it that it is 100% but close to it. Here it is: Yonkers Fire Department Company History 1896-2008 Engine 1 - Commissioned September 1, 1896; 18 Palisade Avenue – Fire Headquarters Moved October 1928 to 5-7 New School Street – “newly constructed” Fire Headquarters De-Commissioned January 1, 1976 Engine 2 – Commissioned October 1897; 7-9 Vineyard Avenue - Station 2 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 302 September 15, 1980; Station 2 closed and moved to Station 1 De-Commissioned April 19, 1982 Re-Commissioned June 1983 at Station 1 De-Commissioned July 1983 Engine 3 – Commissioned September 16, 1901; 81 Riverdale Avenue – Station 3 August 17, 1971 moved to 96 Vark Street – “newly constructed” Station 3 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 303 Engine 4 – Commissioned May 1, 1901; 36 Radford Street – Station 4 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 304 Engine 5 – Commissioned May 1, 1901; 53 Shonnard Place De-Commissioned February 1, 1942 Engine 6 – Commissioned August 4, 1902; 81 Oak Street - Station 6 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 306 Engine 7 – Commissioned August 4, 1902; Central Park Avenue/Yonkers Avenue – Station 7 1931 Moved to “newly constructed” firehouse at 441 Central Park Avenue – Station 7 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 307 Engine 8 – Commissioned August 15, 1907; 268 Woodworth Avenue – Station 8 1933 moved to 583 Warburton Avenue - Station 8 (a former carriage house) March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 308 June 1980 moved to 573 Warburton Avenue – “newly constructed” Station 8 Engine 9 – Commissioned December 22, 1909; Swain Street (Pondfield Road West) 1922 moved to 53 Shonnard Place - Station 9 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 309 Engine 10 – Commissioned November 5, 1910; 485 Saw Mill River Road March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 310 Engine 11 – Commissioned January 9, 1922; 427 Bronxville Road – Station 11 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 311 De-Commissioned April 19, 1982 Re-Commissioned June 1983 at Station 11 De-Commissioned July 1983 Re-Commissioned January 2, 1984 at Station 11 De-Commissioned December 1, 2004 (see Squad 11) Engine 12 - Commissioned June 17, 1930; 75 Fortfield Avenue – Station 12 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 312 Engine 13 – Commissioned August 13, 1956; 340 Kimball Avenue – Station 13 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 313 Engine 14 – Commissioned December 1, 1958; 2187 Central Park Avenue - Station 14 March 10, 1978 re-designated Engine 314 Truck 1 – Commissioned September 1, 1896; 18 Palisade Avenue - Headquarters Moved October 1928 to 5-7 New School Street – “newly constructed” Fire Headquarters March 10, 1978 re-designated Ladder 71 Truck 2 – Commissioned October 1897; 7-9 Vineyard Avenue – Station 2 March 16, 1972 moved from Station 2 to 53 Shonnard Place - Station 9 March 10, 1975 re-designated Truck 9 March 10, 1978 re-designated Ladder 72 Truck 3 – Commissioned abt. 1907; 53 Shonnard Place 1922 moved to 427 Bronxville Road - Station 11 March 10, 1975 re-designated Truck 11 De-Commissioned January 1, 1976 Re-Commissioned 1979 as Ladder 76 at Bronxville Road; Station 11 August 18, 1980 moved from Station 11 to 96 Vark Street – Station 3 De-Commissioned April 19, 1982 Truck 4 – Commissioned late 1914; 36 Radford Street – Station 4 March 10, 1978 re-designated Ladder 74 Truck 5 – Commissioned January 5, 1932; 441 Central Park Avenue - Station 7 De-Commissioned February 1, 1942 Re-Commissioned April 19, 1943 De-Commissioned abt. 1943-44 Re-Commissioned February 17, 1946 March 31, 1961 moved from Station 7 to 75 Fortfield Avenue - Station 12 March 10, 1975 re-designated Truck 12 March 10, 1978 re-designated Ladder 75 Truck 6 – Commissioned March 27, 1956; 340 Kimball Avenue – Station 13 March 10, 1975 re-designated Truck 13 March 10, 1978 re-designated Ladder 73 Truck 7 – Commissioned December 21, 1967; 2187 Central Park Avenue - Station 14 March 10, 1975 re-designated Truck 14 March 10, 1978 re-designated Ladder 70 ?? 20. The current staffing for the YFD is: Engines: 1 Officer - 3 Firefighters Ladders: 1 Officer - 3 Firefighters Rescue: 1 Officer - 3 Firefighters Battalions: 1 A/C - 1 Firefighter Safety: 1 Officer (A/C or Capt). We have a total of 18 Companies - 11 Engine Co. (that's including our Squad), 6 Truck Co., 1 Rescue Co,. Back in the late 70's/early 80's we had a total of 20 companies but several were eliminated to never be put back in service except for Engine 311 (now Squad 11) and the Rescue (which was known as Engine 305 back then after they disbanded it). We never got back all the companies we lost and since then, the population of Yonkers has gone up over 200,000 + and the city has undertaken a lot of development (retail, community and hi-rises) and redevelopment and the YFD started doing EMS calls in the early 90's; and the total yearly responses went up from 5,000-6,000 back in the 80's to 15,000-16,000 runs today.
  21. Nice job Greg and all involved. As it was stated previously. Greg has been an asset to the YFD and Local 628 since coming over last year from Scarsdale FD. A firefighter at heart and a gentleman. Our gain was their loss indeed.
  22. Congrats Chief on being member of the week and your future move to Batt 1 (BTW who's going to be your new aide?).
  23. Yes they are both necessary in the scope of setting up our reserve and spare apparatus. Add that the dept currently tries to run a program to replace front line apparatus every 8 years. That being said, 71 is now 10 years old and 75 is going to hit the 8 year mark in two more. So, IMO, it is more cost effective and efficient to order two at once, instead of ordering and receiving 71 and now to have to start the process of ordering 75, so it can replaced at the 8 year mark. Currently our only spare/reserve Tower Ladder is an open cab 1990 Mack that has seen better days and has been refurbished once already. It has happened on occassion that both 71 & 75's front line rigs have been down at the same time, only leaving the spare Mack as the only Tower Ladder available for the city. For the safety of the members of the YFD and the citizens of Yonkers, a rig, be it front line, reserve, or spare should be in top working order and not a question mark every time you go to start it or use it at a job. The idea is take one of the current Tower Ladders and make it a fully equipped Reserve apparatus (which can be put in service very quickly) and the other one will become a spare apparatus (not fully equipped). Before anyone raises the question of which rig is going to be designated what when they are taken off the front line, that is up to D/C Fitzpatrick to determine.
  24. For any info on the upcoming test go to the following link: http://www.cityofyonkers.com/Index.aspx?pa...mp;recordid=291 At the bottom of the article are links to the official announcement with all the particulars and the exam application.
  25. R1- If my memory serves me correctly I think Battalion 2 and L70 were sent with an Engine Co. (I believe either E311 or E313).
