Recently I was speaking with my pal at FDNY Rescue 2 and he tells me the same as mentioned, Rescue 6 is only temporary unit. Staffing it has not been easy. The FF's assigned to R1 are not happy about this R6. Some FF's from R1, R3, and Squads have been reassigned to staff R6. I am one to fully support cutting down response time and adding additional resources as needed but do they really need this R6? It's nice they will add units such as R6 for the "Elections" but how about the residents of the City of New York who live there everyday?

Truck4 interesting call did you hear all of it? I was monitoring Westchester, Tarrytown, and Rockland at the time of dispatch for ALL agencies. What I found interesting was that Tarrytown and Nyack FD were sent out for a Gas Odor on the TZ Bridge... While that was ongoing two other Rockland FD's were on the NYS T-Way for the same type of call. Odor of Gas for approximately a 10 mile stretch. Called in by Cell 911. It was all "Unfounded" ODD!

How much goes to the "642" fund?

Just to add while on vacation in Wildwood, NJ I was able to pick up FDNY Bronx, FDNY Manhattan, and NYPD SOD like I was in NYC. The skip traveled right down the Atlantic. I also heard some stories about Dutchess Co. Dispatchers on 46.36 having convos a few years back with CA Dispatchers. Peekskill PD old frequency 154.860 it was quite often that you could pick up a PD up in Mass. On a clear night it's pretty amazing what you can pick up.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the kind words and to all of the area Firefighters who came out for Bob's wake and funeral.

Sorry for your loss...

They are set up in Zones. I don't have my list in front of me. You will hear them being called out over Westchester County Fire 46.26. Example: "60-Control to C & O Zone 4 call in for a response" The members of the C & O will then call 60-Control for the assignment. Once C & O rigs are on the road you will hear them sign on as Car 1404, 1405, Etc.. Each C & O member is also assigned a radio ID number such as 1423, 1425, Etc. I hope I could be of some help to you.

Thanks for the kind words guys... Means a lot! If you could help spread the word to other Firefighters and Officers I would appreciate it. I would love for his family to have a large show of support from the fire service county-wide. I had the pleasure of knowing Bob back in the Car 2343, 2342, and 2341 days. He had a real passion for the Fire Department, He gave 100% all the time. He will really be missed..... Fire Department Service will be held on Wednesday night and on Thursday morning for the Funeral. (Full Dress Uniform) If you can make it please do. On behalf of the Ferris Family and Peekskill FD.... Thank You!

On Wednesday morning, June 30, 2004, a member of the Marlboro First Aid Squad (Monmouth County, NJ) was critically injured while responding to his building to answer a call. Ron Tornberg, 48, has been an EMT and member with the Marlboro First Aid Squad for the past 3 1/2 years. As of this writing, he remains in a drug induced coma after suffering from head trauma and other injuries. On that day, while responding to a call, Ron's personal SUV vehicle was struck in the rear corner panel which then caused his vehicle to flip and rollover several times. Unfortunately, Ron was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected through the sunroof of his vehicle and thrown approximately 25 feet away. A couple of his fellow squad members who were also responding to the call, came upon the accident and began treating their EMS "brother". The original call went to mutual aid. Ron was flown by medivac to a trauma center. This certainly demonstrates the dangers that we all face each and every day as we discharge our duties in serving our respected communities. It also illustrates the importance of wearing a seat belt. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ron, his family and the membership of the Marlboro First Aid Squad during these very trying times. Due to the fact that Ron remains in ICU, only family members are permitted to visit. Cards and well wishes may be sent to: Ron Tornberg c/o Marlboro First Aid P.O. Box 128 Marlboro, NJ 07746 Article written by John Butterweck 23rd District Vice Chairman - NJSFAC

I just had this amazing brain storming idea come to mind. Check out this concept: 1. Lets have POLICE DISPATCHERS dispatch POLICE units. 2. Lets have FIRE DISPATCHERS dispatch FIRE units. 3. Lets have EMS DISPATCHERS dispatch EMS units, and utilize EMD. If your municipality does not have FIRE DISPATCHERS and EMS DISPATCHERS who are EMD certified then guess what? You need to utilize the resources in Westchester County who can provide this service. Westchester County DES "60-Control" The days of having your local PD dispatching your FD and or VAC just have to end. Do you hear some of this half-@$$ dispatching? You place a 911 call to your local PD for Grandma who is having chest pains. While your on the phone giving information to the PD dispatcher they get a radio call from an Officer calling a 10-13 Officer down, at the same time the other phone line rings calling in a barking dog, other line rings reporting a house on fire with people trapped. What does this dispatcher do? My scenario may be a little far fetched but don't think for a minute it has not happened. It has and it will continue to happen. An old saying... If your not part of the solution then you might be part of the problem. I am not here to point fingers at anyone or bash any agency. We all do our best and trust me I know that. It just annoys me to see the resources available to us and not being used. The days of "Help is on the way" Click... have to end. Oh yeah.... Is help really "On the way"? That is a whole other topic.
