I think the concept of a "SQUAD" is a great idea. But... Don't be something you are NOT, a Rescue Company is an "Elite" group of Firefighters. I've had the pleasure of riding with FDNY R2 and R3 on numerous occasions. They are the best of the best hands down. 901, You are 100% Correct! Having been a former "E" employee I can say YFD on the 10-45's is a great thing. Yes, they do save lives! Hats off to all FF's who do EMS runs. Peekskill FD has had saves BLS and ALS. Personally...I don't feel that removing "Engine" from the side of your pumper and replacing it with "Squad" makes you a Squad Company. What type of Training do they have? Experience? and Equipment? Are they really a "Specialized Unit" ? If I put 100 gallons of Foam on my pumper will I be called "Foam 130"? No... I am still Engine 130 but I have additional equipment. Let's remember YFD RESCUE 1 is still primary and the only Rescue in the City of Yonkers. That has not changed! Squad 311 is still an ENGINE COMPANY and will function as one. They will hit a hydrant, lay in just like everyone else. Engine, Ladder, Rescue, and Squad's let's put the EGO'S aside and do the job we ALL love! GOD BLESS AND BE SAFE!

The Chrome Dome, I see you are back! We missed you!

What's a Fire Hydrant? Is it that little Red, Yellow, or Orange thing that EVERYONE runs past to grab an Air Pack so they can run into the Fire and save the day? #-o

57Crew, Thanks!! NYS OFPC website has the 2004 schedule. I know the 2005 will be posted sometime soon....hopefully but I am gonna try to get a lil ahead of the game and post in on here for everyone. A LOT of typing. haha

I think all FIRE and EMS personnel should go thru criminal background checks. Volunteer and Paid! We deal with the public and are in the eyes of the public 24/7. If you apply for a job at McDonalds they do a check. Most jobs do a criminal background check, credit, contact previous employers, and check references. Why should we be any different? The days of "I know him, he's a good guy" are over. I have nothing to hide, Do you? It's my understanding (I hope) the Sleepy Hollow FD members are 1st time offenders. If they did a background check it presumably would have come up clean. The incident(s) are bad for everyone. The victims, victim's family, the community, the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department, and surrounding Fire Departments. We are ALL effected by something like this!

"One Blue Light" Well, it is one blue light. One big BURST of BLUE 4,000 times. =D>

What Westchester Fire Department's paint Fire Hydrants according to the NFPA 291 Standards? Who paints and tests them? FD, DPW?

I agree 100% a "Full Assignment" to all Automatic Alarms both Commercial and Residential or whatever your department SOP's are... i.e. 1 and 1, 2 and 1, or everybody! Sending 1 Engine is CRAZY! All to often we hear "Automatic Alarm" reset are pagers and roll over. Guess what? Not always the case! A few of the major fires we've had in Peekskill over the years came in "Automatic Alarm" that is Commercial and Residential calls. When that happens at 3 AM and you are caught with your pants down. I've heard that some departments choose to send the 1st Due Lights and Siren and all other responding units at a reduced speed or just a normal Sunday drive until 1st due confirms you have something. This is done to cut down on the risk of Fire Dept. accidents and injuries related to "Emergency Response." I didn't say I agree with it, but I have read it. What's your take on this? I guess it has some pros and cons like anything. Personally I would rather lean on the side of send everybody, you can always send them back.

It is with deep regret to announce the passing of Ex-Chief James F. Lippert, Peekskill FD. Jim was Fire Chief in the 70's then again in the mid 80's. He was an active member of the Peekskill Fire Patrol E134 and associate member of Centennial Hose E130. He was laid to rest on December 3, 2004. CHIEF... RIP!

On News12 today 12/3 ANOTHER Sleepy Hollow Firefighter was charged with the same kinda crime on a different occasion. This time the girl was only 13. BIG OUCH! [-X

R1SMOKEATER, Thanks for the update!

DFFD227, YOU'RE SHOT! haha I must confess... I do have a 1/2 inch gold reflective stripe on the tailgate of my pick up. Not cause I am buff, well that too.... But the better visible you are the safer you are. That goes for fire calls and just normal driving conditions. Remember585 does not need any reflective stripes. He has 20 strobes and LEDs. "Officer, I was run off the road by a UFO, I swear" #-o

Psssst! Maybe it was Nextel repairmen who fixed the Nextel service but wiped out our 911 system after reading EMTBravo. LOL! It has been a little better.

DMA, GOOD POINT! I sorta fell a little behind on my FDNY Buff Days but I believe that FDNY Squads DO NOT run EMS unless a special circumstance?? Yonkers FD having Squad 311 I think is a great idea but as DMA mentioned if it's a "Special Unit" Why have it run on routine runs such as EMS runs. Hopefully if the $#@! hits they fan they can 10-8 quick. I am sure someone from Yonkers FD can jump on here and let us know what the deal is.
