  1. Saturday, July 29, 2006 Police Officer critical after alleged DWI accident A veteran City of Poughkeepsie police officer was in critical condition Friday after his patrol car was slammed into by an alleged drunken driver, city police said. Police Officer Richard Poluzzi, a 33-year member of the department, was on routine patrol at about 4 a.m. Friday when he drove through the intersection of North Bridge and Mill streets. It was then, police said, that a Wappingers Falls man went through a red light at the intersection, striking the police car. Miguel Mojica's pickup truck went out of control and hit the building at 195 Mill St., while Poluzzi's patrol car wound up on the sidewalk between 191 and 193 Mill St., police said. Poluzzi was admitted to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was in intensive care Friday afternoon with a head injury. Mojica, 30, also was hurt and was taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center. The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police assisted in the investigation to avoid any conflict of interest, city police said. Mojica was charged with second-degree vehicular assault, a felony, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and traffic violations. He was arraigned at Vassar Brothers and is being held on $15,000 cash bail.
  2. Motorola HT1000 was replaced by the Motorola PR1500. It's 32 Channels (as posted a few months back) Unfortunately, all the new stuff seems to be crap. I love my HT1000! Motorola HT750, HT1250, = Crap! Motorola XTS series are awesome radios but you are gonna pay $$$. Not only do you have to pay to buy the radio but also the software you need for the radio to work. (Like Windows for a computer) Just my two cents on the radio topic: SAFETY ISSUES! It's ironic how we as Firefighters will spend $1,000 on a Lightbar and our Fire Departments will spend $1,500 to $2,000 per Firefighter for Turnout Gear yet the two-way radio you might need to call a MAY-DAY they cry if it's more than $500.00. Let's run out and buy crap like ICOM's. Whoops, did I say that? Sorry.

  15. Not saying a probie, volunteer or career needs to take ALL the classes I posted. Just saying... No department should scratch there head thinking what are we gonna have training on? So many classes available. Training should never end!!! Learn something new everyday.
  16. Myth # 7: The more BLUE LIGHTS I have on my car the faster I will get on scene and if they don't pull over I will just run them off the road. Really unprofessional!!! Volunteer Firefighters in New York a BLUE LIGHT is a courtesy light!
  17. Tonight, 7-18-06 I've been monitoring 46.26 during and after the storm. I have to give a lot of credit to the 60-Control dispatchers. The radio traffic has been crazy for the last hour to the point of non-stop chatter. 60-Control can't even get tones out for alarms because of it. THIS SHOULD CONCERN YOU! Why do we have 46.14, 46.42, and 8 UHF Fire Ground Channels ??? GIVE 60-CONTROL A BREAK! Use alternate channels, It may save a life! "Thank You"
  18. I have a complaint! Where are the EMTBravo t-shirts?
