I was just watching the WB11 or now as they call it CW11 News at 10 PM and I caught the tail ending of a story that NYC is selling 5 or 6 of the Firehouses that were closed down. I guess that means SLIM chances at re-opening. Anyone hear about this?

Seth, This site started out with you telling me at 3 AM, "Hey check this out" Remember? I will never forget. We went from a few guys and a few topics to what? 5,000 members and more topics than you can imagine. THAT IS AMAZING! This site EMTBravo has enabled THOUSANDS of Firefighters, Police Officers, EMTs, and Paramedics to network and discuss multiple topics. No site offers that unless it's a bashing/rant site which is something you have stayed far away from. A LOT of stuff that goes on here in our own county I would not know without EMTBravo. Just to clear the air, I was in no way putting the site down. I was just stating MY opinion. It does seem a little cluttered when you log on the the EMTBravo.com page but I understand the site needs it's sponsors to continue. In closing I just want to say THANK YOU as a friend and as a EMTBravo member. Maybe other members could show some appreciation for all of the work you do on this site for us and DONATE!

I've seen a few in Mount Kisco, NY and in Valhalla, NY on the Westchester Medical Center campus. Peekskill, NY had them until the mid 1990's FYI: I am a huge Gamewell Fire Alarm Box collector. I restore them. I have 25 or so Gamewell Boxes from late 1800's on up to Present.

JBE, I have seen that happen myself. Not very good PR to say the least. What happened to Pedestrians Have The Right Of Way? What happened to "Emergency Operation" Code 3, You must gain control of the intersection and proceed when SAFE to do so? I can relate to the need of getting to the scene of a fire, police, or medical emergency as fast as possible but GOOD JUDGMENT should be utilized. Yeah, a little blast to say "Move Your @%%" is understandable but I am sure the lady, obviously HANDICAPPED did not do it on purpose.

WHOOPS!!! Did anyone hear about the Indian Point Emergency E-Mail sent out on 10/4? SEMO State Emergency Management Office sent out an e-mail to numerous officials and the press indicating that Indian Point had some sort of Emergency. It was a mistake during a training exercise. Mistake??? Had the officials and press not called to verify it was a mistake I can not even begin to imagine the panic here in Westchester County. It was on News12 all night last night. I am sure it will be in the Newspapers today (Thursday)

VERY SAD!!!!! OK, Did I miss something? "City Officials" said she might have been saved but they were forced to close the Fire Station due to residents voting against a proposed tax increase. Sounds like they are trying to rub this death in the faces of the tax payers no? If you knew this would happen then why the #%&@ did you close the Firehouse? PUBLIC SAFETY SHOULD NEVER BE CUT EVER AND IF ACTIONS BY CITY GOVT CAUSE SUCH A LOSS WELL THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE! Did I read into this too much or are they basically saying: "We knew it would happen but you voted the tax increase down so oh well" AMAZING!

The information of "Operating Temperatures" is listed on ALL of the Motorola portable radio spec sheets. Does anyone read them? This is absolutely something we as Firefighters and Chief Officers MUST be aware of. How many times has your $500 or $2,000 Portable Radio failed on a beautiful sunny afternoon? -Bad Radio -Bad Battery -Bad Speaker Mic What makes you think it will work in a FIRE? Maybe it's time that Motorola, Kenwood, ICOM realize the GREAT DANGER here and start making radios designed for FIREFIGHTERS. EXAMPLE: Motorola HT1250 "Operating Temperature" -30 C - +60C = -22F - 140F Yes, 140 F... WOW!!! Most of the radios we ALL use as Firefighters, Police Officers, EMTs, and Paramedics are the same radios that are sold to Golf Courses, Security Guards, Construction Sites, Shopping Malls, and Hospitals. You have "Operating Temperatures" of the actual Radio, Battery, and lets not forget the Speaker Mic. THIS STUDY SHOULD BE NO SURPISE! Maybe it's time that Cities, Towns, Villages, Fire Districts should STOP buying crap radios to save a few bucks. I think my life is worth more than a ICOM or Motorola HT1250. What is your life worth? "Submersible Radio" That is the best scam out there. Are you going SCUBA diving with the Radio? It's SCARY to see what some FD's use for radios. I know with a lot of FD's money is a factor but maybe next time you buy a new Engine, Ladder, or Rescue you can cut back on the $10,000 Gold Leaf job and save some cash for QUALITY COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT!!!! How many FD's replace Portable Radio Batteries on a regular basis with OEM Batteries? Just my TWO cents.
