Westchester County Department of Emergency Services "60-Control" assigns unit ID numbers such as: FIRE Engine XX Ladder XX Tower Ladder XX Rescue XX Tanker XX Patrol XX Utility XX Marine XX Car XX Chief and Officer unit ID's are the first 3 numbers of the Fire Department. Example: Peekskill FD is Dept 234 so the Chief is 2341 and so on. YOU MUST USE COUNTY ISSUED NUMBERS WHEN ON COUNTY FREQUENCIES. EMS BLS Ambulance XX-B1 "B" Basic Life Support ALS Ambulance XX-A1 "A" Advanced Life Support ALS Fly Car XX-M1 "M" Medic Fly Car / Advanced Life Support Chief and Officer unit ID's are the first 2 numbers of the Ambulance Agency Example: Peekskill VAC is Agency 75 so the Chief or Capt is 7511 and so on. AGAIN, YOU MUST USE COUNTY ISSUED NUMBERS WHEN ON COUNTY FREQUENCIES. If a Fire Department would like a specific number like i.e. Engine XX and it's available DES will be more than happy to assign it to you. NOTE: White Plains FD recently switched back to using the 60-Control issued radio ID numbers. Good move! I would guess that you can call a unit whatever you want when you are on your own agency channel however it's smart to stick with one number and that being the county issued ID number to avoid any confusion. Engine 17 on this channel and Engine 599 on that channel. Westchester County DES has come a long way with assigning ID numbers. I can remember back to when..... Ahhhh nevermind. LOL! Oh, one last thing.... YOU MUST USE COUNTY ISSUED NUMBERS WHEN ON COUNTY FREQUENCIES.

HUMOR in the Fire Service? NO WAY!

I have mixed feelings on the whole CDL thing. I do however respect both opinions. Taking a DMV Road Test with a Fire Apparatus is nice but the Driver Training Officer should be doing just as good of a job (If not better) then the DMV. I think every Fire Department, even Ambulance Corps should have an extensive driver training program and every operator should take EVOC. Hudson144, I think that was a GREAT post. It's amazing how that "old salty guy" Pike Pole trick stuck with you. GOOD TRAINING!!! I am sure everytime you get behind the wheel that sticks in the back of your mind. He did his job well. Oil Truck Driver is a good point too. GOOD TRAINING and EXPERIENCE!

You can give this a try: www.amerex-fire.com Amerex Fire Extinguisher website. They have a lot of information. I would give them a call. If you dont see what you are looking for I am sure they will answer questions or send you some stuff. They were more than helpful when I contacted them a few months ago on a training issue. Rob

ALL Police Officers should carry at a MINIMUM a 40 or 45 for a duty weapon. I like the 9MM but with the "Ghetto Guns" just aint gonna cut it anymore. ALL Police Vehicles should have: A - Shotgun B - AR-15 C - MP5 D - ALL of the above (OK Sorry ) LAPD Bank Robbery Shoot Out should have been a WAKE UP CALL but I think the recent incident in Upstate NY really hit home. Very sad. I fired the 45 Glock. It's got some KICK!

If you look close at Ladder 3 you will notice that the RED & BLUE flashers you see replaced the 2 Hi-Beam bulbs of the 4 Headlights. They flash in a wig-wag pattern as wig-wag headlights would.

I cannot confirm this, only a rumor at this point but I hear that the FEDS may have been a huge factor why White Plains Dodge closed down. Interesting.....

Knoesel family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in knowing Mrs. Knoesel is resting in peace now and will for eternity.

"Night Siege" The Hudson Valley UFO Sightings Written by Dr. J. Allen Hynek Do you remember back in the late 1980's and early 1990's all of the UFO Sightings in the Hudson Valley area? It was found to be a hoax by pilots out of Stormville. The TV show Unsolved Mysteries did a whole episode on it featuring Peekskill, Yorktown, and various other areas including the Taconic State Parkway. I remember they interviewed a Yorktown Police Dispatcher. This went on for a while and had caused a lot of panic. I remember seeing the object myself on numerous occations. I just saw on www.amazon.com that a book was published about the sightings. After searching a little on the internet I found this on www.forteantimes.com WOW.... I remember looking up at them!

COOL! I hope while they were filming Engine 51 & Squad 51 got a run. "Station 51, 10-4 KMG-365"

Simplex, Duplex, Half-Duplex, Low Band, VHF, UHF, Trunked, The list goes on... We need to train everyone; Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, Captains, Lieutenants, Firefighters, Fire Police.... Yes, EVERYONE that uses a radio. When you are at a Fire Scene ANY Fire Scene Go to Fire Ground Channels!!! IT JUST MAY SAVE A LIFE! IC should control the Non Essential Chatter because I often hear a lot of it on the County Fire Channels and Fire Ground. Just to add....ALL the lil cutesy comments made by Firefighters, EMT's, and Paramedics to 60-Control need to END! Totally UNPROFESSIONAL! Anyone who monitors Rockland or Orange County will know they do not tolerate it at all.

Off the top of my head..... -FF Experience -Officer Experience -Knowledge -Certified Training -Courses, Classes, Hands-On -Education -Awareness -Dedication -Integrity -Loyalty -Professional ALL Fire Departments should have Minimum Qualifications and they must be followed. Don't just fill a position of Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, 2nd Assistant Chief with a body because the person does a lot of calls. Chief of the Fire Department with 15 Firefighters, 50 Firefighters, or 5,000 Firefighters is a HUGE RESPONSIBILITY!!!

State of New York Police Officer or Peace Officer I was under the impression that a Constable is a Peace Officer as mentioned regarding Brewster. They work P/T. Code Enforcement, Parking, Etc. In Cold Spring they are P/T Police Officers not Constables. I know Elmsford PD still has some Constables. They are very big on Long Island in Nassau and Suffolk used as Code Enforcement, Park Patrol, Parking, Etc. I was under the impression that P/T Police Officers and P/T Constables in the State of New York were exempt from Civil Service Exams. Maybe that has or soon will change? Westchester County Department of Public Safety has Reserve Deputy Sheriff's they are Volunteer but have full Police Officer powers. NOTE: I did hear the WC Reserve Sheriff's authority might have been changed to Peace Officers. They would join, get certified, and jump ship to a PD job. Someone with knowledge of this please correct me.
