I am just speechless.... LODD in Training and all the SAFETY VIOLATIONS! Why????? Live Burns are very DANGEROUS as with ANY Fire. Yes, it's "TRAINING" but all to often we overlook it's a REAL FIRE! You can't hit the STOP button when things go wrong. -REAL HEAT, -REAL SMOKE, -REAL FIRE, -REAL DANGERS! REAL INJURY and sadly REAL DEATH! I hope we can ALL learn from her death. My heart goes out to her family. God Bless BE SAFE!

Someone mentioned we should seek some legal advice on this topic. STRUCTURE FIRE OR MVA W/ PIN that you are flagged down for on the way to the Structure Fire. I called a Lawyer I know who is involved with Emergency Services. This is what he said...... My Reply: Yes

SCENE SAFETY: I have monitored a few calls where 60-Control or Police have told "Stage Away From The Scene" and guess what? EMS units (ALS) and or (BLS) go right in!

I guess he didn't hit 88 MPH?

Fire Department vehicles and apparatus should be RED! That is why it didn't come out right. LOL! Yea, seriously Seth... I don't think it looks that bad at all. Let me know if you need a lil strip of Blue Reflective and really do it up nice.

Another Good Topic... I think having a Bullet Proof Vest is never a bad thing, Always look to protect yourself but I have one question.... Why do EMT's and Medics love to look like the POLICE if you don't wanna get shot at? -Navy Blue Pants -Navy Blue Shirt -Police Style EMT Badge -State Trooper Style EMT Patch -Gun Belt with ALL the toys (Minus the Gun) Tell me.. WHO do you look like from 20 FEET away????? Always remember SCENE SAFETY.... If you are dispatched to a Shooting, Stabbing, Assault, Domestic, Etc wait for PD to clear the area and tell you the scene is safe. You should NEVER be in a HOT ZONE or DANGER ZONE. We all want to rush in and help, I speak from experience... When I was an EMT in the early 90's I rushed into a call of a Shooting, We were blocks away. We arrived on scene so fast NO POLICE. Whoops! As we began to treat the shooting victim we could hear police sirens the thought had occurred to me that ANYONE in the crowd could have been the Shooter and if they wanted him dead they might shoot us for helping him. I will NEVER make that mistake again. I am a huge buff trust me but I have learned a lot over the years. EVERYONE GOES HOME...

I respectfully still stand behind you have to stop if you are flagged down for a MVA w/ Pin I think several members have proven WHY you need to stop. Can you see the News at 11 PM if you drove off? "Firefighters leave victims trapped in a car to die" What happens while responding to a Structure Fire and the Engine, Ladder, or Rescue gets a Flat? They are now Out of Service, Right? Another Engine, Ladder, or Rescue is assigned to the run just like another unit can be assigned to the run if you stop for a MVA. Confirmed Working Fire or not you are NOT on scene. You are however ON SCENE of this MVA w/ Pin. Your priorites have now changed and you have a Duty to Act at the MVA. Another factor here... Are any Firefighters on board the Fire Apparatus a NYS Certified CFR, EMT, or Paramedic? Just my two cents.... Very good topic here.... A lot of good feedback. HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO ANY FIREFIGHTERS OR FIRE OFFICERS? Chris192, Maybe this should be another thread but question.... You are responding to a Bank Robbery w/ Shots Fired but you are passing a Dunkin Donuts that is about to close... What do you do? LOL! Love ya bro! BE SAFE!

I notice the bus says 7603, Shouldn't it be 76B3 ? VERY VERY SHARP! I like the lettering and new design. Best of luck with it to Pleasantville VAC!!! BE SAFE! PS The Caddy Ambulance was a joke. I hope some got a good laugh.

I also think having a Mask Service Unit would be beneficial to all Fire Departments here in Westchester.

NEWS12 this morning (Thursday 3/22) stating that some of the NEW Indian Point Sirens FAILED the test yesterday. We are off to a great start! The ones that did work you can hardly hear and some didn't work at all. How much was spent on this system? I hear 10 MILLION? 10 MILLION and a Federal Q is LOUDER! I hope Entergy kept receipts... RETURN THEM!

I remember driving by a Firehouse about a year or two ago in the Bronx and seeing the SA Canteen Truck parked by the Engine. I don't remember the exact location..... I think it had some type of FDNY ID# or logo on it. Anyone know of this?

JBE & AndyC3J Good Catch! I did notice something though, In the photo the Engine For Sale and the photo of Engine 17 the Chicago FD logo is on the rear jump seat doors but on the Code 3 collectables it's between the drivers door and the jump seat door. Where is it supposed to be? Any Chicago FD buffs on EMTBravo? Here is some additional information: Credit: Code 3 Collectibles http://www.code3.net/product/detail.asp?item=12392 Hollywood Uses Real Chicago Apparatus The Chicago Fire Department loaned Universal Studios several pieces of apparatus for the movie BACKDRAFT. Among them is a renumbered Ward LaFrance Pumper. Code 3 Collectibles has replicated the fire engine as seen in the movie with hard suction hoses on the cab roof; diamond plated detailing and authentic CFD markings. Collect with 12495 Chicago Mack CF Rear Mount L-46 and 13107 Chicago Firehouse as a set! Trivia on the Making of the Movie When Ron Howard filmed BACKDRAFT he made the Chicago Fire Department one of the most recognized departments in the country. It is very unusual for Hollywood to use actual authentic apparatus. Most movies using fire apparatus are filmed on the West Coast and use privately owned trucks painted to reflect the city they are meant to represent. The most recognized engine from the movie would be Engine 17. Engine 17 started service with the Chicago Fire Department in July of 1970. This1970 Ward LaFrance Pumper was first assigned to Engine Co. 8. The pumper was later assigned to Engine 18. In 1987, it was refurbed with a Ranger cab and E-One body before it was given to Ron Howard's production group in July of 1990. Ron Howard used Engine 18 (portrayed as Engines 17 & 51 in the movie) until February of 1991. After the filming of the movie, the apparatus was given to Engine 69 were it remained in-service until 1995 when it was disposed of. Three different ladder trucks were used as the famous Truck 46 in filming BACKDRAFT. A 1972 Mack CF with a 100' Pirsh Ladder was customized by Ron Howard by adding updated headlights, a siren, warning lights and customizing some bodywork. The Tiller was a 1976 International Harvester Tractor Drawn Ladder with a CFA Clintonville Trailer and 100' Seagrave Ladder. The American LaFrance 100' truck was assigned to Truck 36 before the movie and after the movie was a shop spare. A 1978 American LaFrance Century Pumper was marked in the movie as Engine 67 & 25. The Engine was originally Engine 46 of the Chicago Fire Department and after filming was returned to the department as Engine 80. Engine 24 was also an American LaFrance Century Pumper. It was marked 24, 27 and 17 in the movie. It was Engine 34 of the CFD before filming and Engine 28 after. Along with using authentic apparatus, Ron Howard also used Chicago's firehouses to retain the authenticity in his movie. The firehouses used in filming were Engine Co. 65 (which was Engine Companies 17 and 46 in the movie), Engine Co. 51 (Robert DeNiro's office) was filmed at Engine Co. 8, in China Town and training drills were filmed at Engine Co. 49.

You guys have it all wrong...... They wanted the nose of the boat up in the air because it can also extinguish aircraft fires as they fly by! Better aim with the Deck Guns! LOL
