Frank Goderre is a great guy! He is a huge State Police buff and friend to many involved in Police, Fire, and EMS. Frank has several vintage Police vehicles including State Police and Peekskill Police. He use to own REVOLUTIONARY AUTO BODY on Park Street in Peekskill. Frank lettered and designed various logos/graphics for several Police Department and Fire Department vehicles here in Westchester County. I can honesly say he would give the shirt off his back to anyone involved in Emergency Services. I am looking forward to getting a copy of his book.

Chris192, You make good points about staffing a Bus, no doubt! This was just a little vision of RWC130 seeing the problems. If the Westchester County Regional EMS Council is reading this GREAT! I'd love more input!

I LIKE THAT IDEA! Breaking up the costs to run it (shared) by a few agencies would really bring the cost down for everyone involved. I think in the end you would really benefit getting the calls covered. This might also help with Volunteer EMT burnout! Someone will argue why not staff a BLS bus? Then why not staff an ALS bus? ALL good points! Any VAC Officers reading this that would consider some various levels of EMT Fly Car coverage?

I've seen something similar on the roadway in my travels. FD Maltase Cross w/ blue reflective paint and also a blue reflector (bump) in the center of the road. The blue reflective (bump) is very noticeable in the center of the road. PRE-PLAN!!! Know where Fire Hydrants are in your district. Is it a good Fire Hydrant?

National Amusements Multiplex Cinemas such as Hawthorne, Cross County, Greenburgh even the Cortlandt Town Center use to let Police and Firefighters in. As long as you had ID and signed the clipboard it was cool. The problem is EVERY Police Officer and Firefighter within a 50 mile radius found out and it got abused. I think now they will let in the Firefighters or Police Officers in that town but not many more. Free movies and EVERYONE has a Badge and ID. LOL! I never abused it but it was nice a nice treat once in a while when Tickets are $10.00+ a pop. Tickets, Soda, Candy, ETC you are looking at $40 night at the movies.

Yes, absolutely a fully staffed Ambulance would be best. No doubt about that. This idea is to assist the many VAC's that can't get the ambulance out the door. Paid Crews is an option that some VAC's have put in place and some are looking into. When you call in Mutal Aid on a regular basis to cover your own calls now that VAC coming in is down (1) Ambulance and crew. In several areas Mutual Aid is abused. VAC's that are taking steps to solve this problem I give A LOT of credit! Maybe a COUNTY of WESTCHESTER run EMS would be an answer? I appreciate the feedback... Keep it coming!

Chester Ambulance (Orange County) has two new INTERNATIONAL'S, Unit 314 and 316. They are great! "Trauma74" is Chester VAC Captain. I am sure he will add to this.

Toddler Dials 911 From Cell Phone 287 Times by Terrence O'Brien Cell phones in the U.S. are required by law to still be able to access emergency services even if deactivated. That piece of information could have saved one woman, who gave her 4-year-old daughter her cell phone to play with, a whole lot of hassle. The little girl, not quite understanding what she was doing, dialed 911 over and over again. The 4-year-old did this a grand total of 287 times in the month of June, sometimes as often as 20 times during a shift. Emergency personnel were only able to track the phone to the apartment complex where the child lived, so they resorted to a simple ruse to find her -- they offered to bring her McDonald's. An operator asked her what she wanted and she replied "McDonald's," so authorities convinced her that if she told them where she lived they would bring her McDonald's. Needless to say, when the authorities arrived, the mother took the phone away. From AP http://www.switched.com/2007/07/10/toddler...hone-300-times/

DANGERS IN TRAFFIC STOPS! The recent NYPD Shootings of PO Timoshenko and PO Yan while on a Traffic Stop got me to thinking. As you know Traffic Stops are VERY DANGEROUS! You don't know who you have stopped and if they may have a weapon or just robbed a bank. Why are they speeding? You see one person but.. maybe 2 or 3 are in the car? Night time with window tints even with your Takedowns, Spot Light, Maglite ALL on you are lucky if you can even see in the car. Is it safe to approach? Police Officers usually approach a motorists on the Driver Side. I've seen at times on a Highway the Police Officer does approach on the Passenger Side. In some states approaching on the Passenger Side is very common. Is approaching on the Passenger Side a good idea? If someone has a gun and plans to blast you they would be expecting you to approach on the Driver Side and when you approach on the Passenger Side it would surprise the Driver and maybe save your life, Right? Anyone ever do this if you felt uneasy or the subject looked shady? When more than one person is in the vehicle do you wait for back up to approach? or at least Wait for the DMV data to come back? Do you approach with your weapon in the ready position? I hope all Police Officers call in EVERY Traffic Stop if nothing less YOUR OWN SAFETY! In most Police Departments calling in a Traffic Stop is SOP/SOG. Do you call it in BEFORE you approach the vehicle? Last, and I think this one really is a DANGER to all Police Officers how do you feel about Window Tints? I have window tints, factory to the rear, and I had the two front window tinted which prob illegal but I have enough respect and courtesy when I am stopped my window are down and hands on the wheel. If at night the dome light on. Do you feel as a Police Officer if states didn't allow windows to be tinted factory tints or tint shops it would improve Police Officer safety on Traffic Stops? I think VISIBILITY as you approach the car would be much better, the Takedown and Spot Lights would be more effective. Right? Your thoughts? BE SAFE!!!

I give A LOT of credit to ANY of the Westchester County VAC's that: 1. Recognize they have a manpower issue. (most hide that fact) and abuse mutual aid. 2. Take steps to correct/fix the manpower issue. (membership drive / paid staff) 3. Above ALL remember the most important goal here....Get the Ambulance staffed and out the door! Paid daytime staff is a very common practice over in Orange County, NY with several VAC's and it works well. The life YOU save may be that of your own loved one! PS What VAC has free passes to the POOL? Get me an application! lol I agree, and it will now. Thanks
