  1. Chris192, Maybe you can confirm this? I was once told the reason for some of the odd numbers is because Fleet Management gives special numbers (just as an example, 5590) for some vehicles rec'd with grant money. Any truth to this? As mentioned 1400's to 1600's car numbers are usually Patrol units. I believe 300's are Detectives. I know some of the SOD units are: 9055 - Crime Scene Unit 9061 - International used to tow Boats and Horse Trailers. 9062 - Dodge Charger 7618 - E-One Bomb Truck If I give away anymore info I might have the Men In Black at my door..... Hold on, I hear a knock.... LOL!

  3. Old NYPD PRECINCTS in the "DA BRONX" http://www.policeny.com/thehousethebronx1.html BXTF was the old 44 PCT and the old 42 PCT was actually the old 46 PCT. At one time the following PCT's were all in the Bronx. 33, 35, 38, 39, 54, 77! As of today, I know the 33 PCT is in Manhattan and 77 PCT is in Brooklyn I think all the rest are.... Gone! PRETTY COOL STUFF! NYPD has a lot of history. BE SAFE!

SPR #711 Back in 1996 we had the same uniforms as WCPD Police Officers and carried a Firearm, I even made an arrest however things have changed and although you are still a NYS Peace Officer who can make arrests you should leave the "Arresting" to the guys and gals with Guns like Chris192! SAFETY FIRST!!!! Westchester County PD is a GREAT Police Department, If you ever need help and have to call for it.... Trust me.... It's coming....and FAST! Nice jump to $14.00 HR!!! Sad to say but in the Summer of 1996 I made $7.80 HR GOOD LUCK TO ALL THAT ARE APPLYING!

  11. FIGHTING FIRES IN RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS "A Street Smart Approach" For most firefighters, fires in a detached residential building are one of the most common incidents. Still, as routine as these fires may be, often times they do not go as we have planned and trained for. Limited manpower, construction challenges, and other issues present challenges that we must think "out of the box" about before the fire, if we are to be successful. In addition, yearly statistics show that the greatest numbers of injuries and deaths to firefighters occur in these residential dwellings. This 8-hour interactive discussion will focus on operations and tactics at these incidents. We will focus on "street smart tactics and tips" and apply universal principals that have been proven on the fireground around the country. Our down to earth, experienced and dynamic instructors will deliver "beyond the book" information that will improve your effectiveness, efficiency, and safety on the fire ground. We will discuss the concerns, tactics, and operations of three unique perspectives: -Firefighters -Company Officers -Chief Officers Topics to be discussed include: Construction Features of Residences: Cape Cod's to McMansion's and the effect of the building on your tactics. "Combat-Ready" Firefighting: Preparing yourself and your equipment for efficient, street-smart firefighting. Engine & Truck Work at Residential Fires: Positioning, deployment strategy, equipment selection and more. Real-World Incident Command: Creating a manageable incident, the “Down-to-Earth” IC, resource assignment, objective based firefighting, and tactical considerations for residential fires. Much more... This program is designed with fireground-tested universal principals that will improve the effectiveness of the modern-day suburban firefighter and fire department. The diverse experience and backgrounds of our instructors and our dynamic presentation style will send you home with fresh, exciting ideas that you can put to work at your next fire. 13. Admitting you have a staffing problem is the very first step! A LOT of agencies hide behind that. Does your agency have a Membership Committee? Start one! If they have one offer your assistance to help. I find that some people don't like change. A new member coming around or one with just a few years might ruffle some feathers in what they call a "comfort zone" Everyone knows everyone and it's done this way for a reason. haha I feel your pain! Most important do you guys do any type of Membership Drive? If the community does not know you have a problem then no one will come forward. Offer something to NEW members to keep them interested. Change does not happen overnight but if you can bring in even 5 or 6 new members a year that would help. 10 would be great! Start up a Youth Group within the Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Get the young guys and gals interested in EMS. Hold an Open House at the Station/Building and invite the public. Oh, respect the "senior members" that goes a long way! Keep up the good work.
  14. I bet that "2758" had something to do with that 1 MILLION! lol BUSTED!
  15. Jack10562, I love the pic of the scanner. Brings back memories of falling asleep watching the red lights flash. lol Here are my first two Scanners. Base Scanner was the Realistic Patrolman from Radio Shack PRO-53 8 CH - Given to me by my Grandfather. Portable Scanner was the Realistic PRO-24 4 CH - Given to me by my Dad.
  16. INIT915, Yes, the show was about LAFD Firefighters. TDC202, Yes, on the show his two sons were Firefighters. (as seen in the pics) One worked at the Station with him and the other was a LAFD Chopper Pilot/Firefighter. Danny was the JR Firefighter that the Chief had adopted.
  17. I have an old scanner that was my grandfathers. It was a Radio Shack 8 or 10 channel base. They seemed to work A LOT better too!
