My first time umm... Oh yeah CPR! I was about 16-17 riding the ambulance as a junior member. We got dispatched to a unresponsive person. While responding the PD (on scene) called in "CPR In Progress" at which time we were about a minute out. Upon arrival we took over CPR from the PD, I was doing compressions. We hooked up the AED. Laerdal Heart Start 3000. Yes, I did crack some ribs. "Analyzing Rhythm" "Stand Clear" Hearing the funny sound it made while Charging...... "Press to Shock" EMT at the AED yelling "CLEAR" ZAP!!!! I saw the patient jump a little, not like on TV but it was pretty interesting to see for the first time. Noticed the big Defib spike on the EKG Monitor Screen then it went to this rhythm below: ________________________________________________________________________________ We continued CPR all the way to the ER with no ALS Now is where this story gets interesting........... We were so into trying to save this patient with CPR, AED, BVM, 02 Tank and hysterical family members the only thing we were able to get as far as patient information was first name, last name, and address. We assumed the patient was mid 70's Upon arrival to the ER the staff continued CPR with ACLS for a good 15-20 minutes. The girl from ER registration desk walks over to us and says "this patient is 105 years old" The ER Doc says: STOP CPR! Time: 4:25 PM And that my friends.... I will never forget. He lived a good life! The 2nd time that I did CPR was for a 7 year old Drowning. The boy was pulled from the bottom of the Pool by Lifeguards. CPR started right away and continued by EMS. Again only BLS. While on the way to the ER the child was successfully resuscitated! He became conscious and crying by the time we hit the ER doors. I think that was the best cry that I ever heard. My very first save!

EMTBravo Summer BBQ! Seth and I have tossed around the idea of having a EMTBravo Summer BBQ - Burgers - Hot Dogs - Chips - Cold Soda Are YOU Interested? 1. Where? Choices: - Croton Point Park, Croton-On-Hudson, NY - Blue Mountain Reservation, Peekskill, NY (May be able to get us a deal) - FDR State Park, Yorktown, NY I would like to keep this as close to me as possible for obvious reasons such as but not limited to; Food, Supplies, Etc 2. When? - Saturday or - Sunday 3. Cost? What do you feel is fair? Not looking to profit here, just cover costs. - $15 PP - $20 PP This would be to cover the cost of Food, Soda, Ice, Possible Park Permit, Etc. ** Also Considering Advanced Ticket Sales ** 4. Who Would Attend? - EVERYONE IS INVITED! OK, So here is the deal. Based on interest and feedback I will plan and schedule this EMTBravo Summer BBQ. Final decision will be posted on Friday May 1, 2009 Members let me know what you think? THANK YOU!

Centennial Hose Company No. 4 "Dock Rats" Engine 130 The 1975 Mack CF600 was Lime Yellow because it was purchased from a Long Island FD that had Lime Yellow Apparatus. They originally ordered two Engines but at the last minute decided on just one. It was Lime Yellow from 1975 until 1984. Refurbished to Red/White in 1985 (seen in above photo) Today our 1975 Mack CF600 is now serving in Lake Carey Pennsylvania MoFire24, to you and Gus... THANK YOU!

How about State, County, City, Town, and Village Vehicles? Let's not just jump on the FIRE CHIEF! I know of several people in Local Government and Municipal Services such as DPW, Highway, Etc that have take home vehicles. It's not just Police and Fire Departments. If you live in the same county i.e. Westchester and you have a take home vehicle because of a job title/position I have no problem with that BUT........ When you work in Westchester County and you have a take home vehicle to Suffolk County, Dutchess County, or Orange County I think that IS a problem and a total waste of taxpayer dollars. Maybe someone should ask the Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner who is the Town of Greenburgh DPW official that has the take home vehicle up to Dutchess County I see on Route 9 all the time? USE IT, JUST DON'T ABUSE IT! Just my TWO cents!

Unfortunately this thread about having a EMTBravo BBQ does not seem to have sparked too much interest. Before I put all the work into this do you guys want to have a BBQ? Honestly, WHO is planning to show up?

I heard WCPD Aviation on patrol last night found a Brush Fire. Eye in the sky is always a BIG help.

MoFire390, I could always use some help brother. Give me a call! Thanks for the offer! What would be a big help to get the word out on this BBQ is to establish a liaison between various FD, PD, EMS and EMTBravo. If anyone is interested please send me a e-mail with your name and agency. E-MAIL HERE! On the UPDATE as of today I have narrowed it down to (2) locations: 1. Blue Mountain Reservation Peekskill, NY 2. George's Island Park Montrose, NY I am also considering offering advanced Tickets to the BBQ at a discount. Anyone who shows up the day of the BBQ would pay a little more. This would be a HUGE help in getting an idea how many are attending so we can have Food, Drinks, and Supplies ready. I don't wanna spend money ordering Food for 50 and 5 show up or vice versa. NOTE: Possible Dates of Saturday June 13 or Saturday June 20

Thanks again Remember585! I guess we should rule out Croton Gorge then huh?

1. Blue Mountain Reservation Peekskill, NY 2. George's Island Park Montrose, NY 3. Croton Gorge Park Croton-On-Hudson, NY I will be looking into Picnic Permits, Fees, Etc this coming week and get back to everyone soon with a date and location. ALL have nice Picnic Areas and Parking, does Croton Gorge have Bathrooms? I am not too sure about the Riverfront Green in Peekskill? HMMMMMM It depends on how many LEO's are attending. lol Thanks for all the input!

You are welcome to BYOB!

Thanks for the heads up Remember585! I would really like to go with Blue Mountain Reservation off Welcher Ave and Washington Street in Peekskill. Peekskill PD and Peekskill FD Career Firefighters had several Picnics here and they went very well. Park Staff was very good. Plenty of Parking, Picnic Areas, Bathrooms, Etc. Should we run out of anything A&P is only 1/2 mile away.

COOL PHOTOS! Thanks for posting.

http://law.onecle.com/new-york/vehicle-and...01104_1104.html Now, let's read this one again. E The foregoing provisions shall not relieve the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons, nor shall such provisions protect the driver from the consequences of his reckless disregard for the safety of others. Words that come up a lot "Due Regard" and "Safe Operation" SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER: - Is the Apparatus Operator exercising Due Regard? - Is the Apparatus Operator Operating the Vehicle Safely? - Is the Apparatus Operator's actions Reasonable? - What type of call is it? - Can you as the Apparatus Operator justify your actions? Yes, it appears by letters of the law driving up the wrong side of a road, or highway is "Authorized" but is it necessary? PD, FD, EMS should have Department SOP's/SOG's covering this. RISK vs BENEFIT - Would I take that Risk for a Car Fire? No Way! - Would I take that Risk for a Automatic Fire Alarm? No Way! - Would I take that Risk for a House Fire w/ People Trapped? Yes, I would. - Would I take that Risk for a 10-13, Firefighter Trapped, etc? Yes, I would. NOTE: I am not defending or supporting his actions. We all have to make judgement calls sometimes and as a result have to be responsible for those actions. I am sure ANY Police Officer, Firefighter, EMT, or Paramedic responding to a call for a Child Not Breathing or a 10-13 in that type of traffic MAY have responded in a similar manor. Car Fire? Just my TWO cents. ARRIVE ALIVE BE SAFE!!!
