Best of luck to Johnny Jackson! I am sure he will do a great job for Westchester County DES. I have A LOT of respect for him. He was a Career Firefighter / Officer with Mohegan FD. He also is a Volunteer with Montrose FD. Oh wait... I can't forget C & O Team and CVAC too. Johnny did and still does a lot but most important he was one who never judged you... if you were Career or Volunteer it did not matter to him. You were a Brother Firefighter! OK.. Johnny where is my $20.00 for saying all that? haha

Peekskill FD is no longer on 33.96. Peekskill FD Dispatch 453.225 Peekskill FD Link to 46.26 453.875

I am told the Katonah FD Repeater for 46.26 which is 460.2375 DPL 065 is up and running.... K Anyone listen to it yet?

Thanks for the great feedback brothers! I think we all can agree at a minimum a RIT / FAST should be put on "Standby" for any structure fire calls. Personally I would rather see them canceled and turned around rather than a FF down and your RIT / FAST are still assembling a crew.... Something to think about! Mention it to your Chief Officers. The life you save may be your own!

FREE BEER! OK.. Now that I have your full attention I have been working on a plan with EMTBravo to have a Westchester County Firefighter Appreciation / Friendship Night. It would be nice to have a little something were everyone could get together for some beers, food, and a few good laughs. We have selected the NY Firehouse Grille 50 Welcher Ave. in Peekskill. How appropriate of a place to have something like this. I am working on a date and details with the owners but I am hoping for a Saturday night sometime in mid-January or February. We'll have a Minimal Cover, Appetizers, 50/50 Raffle and a FREE BEER if you bring a Department Patch for the Bar. I need some feedback. What do you think of this idea?

KCP-575 is no longer Peekskill FD. Our new call letters are WPUT-402. BE SAFE!

Peekskill FD Engine 134 is Peekskill Fire Patrol. Fire / Rescue. Peekskill FD Engine 135 is Peekskill Reserve number. We have not had an Engine 135 in at least 10 years. To my knowledge we have always been assigned that reserve number, I could be wrong but I know it goes back to the early 80's maybe more....

FYI - All 5 frequencies I posted as working 100% as of last night.

I like L51 a lot! Nothing like the sound of that Segrave purrrring down the road. Did you know that L51 was the sister ladder of the old L45 Peekskill? They were identical except the colors but thanks to DG795 that should not be an issue anymore. Right Doug?

I forgot Ray left NWHC, It's been a while for me. MY BAD!

OMAHA??? What the (censored) are they thinking? I thought 60 Control did a great job dispatching Stat Flight. Why not go back to them? I think something like that should be kept local.

Try Ray Thompson (EMT Instructor) from NWHC. He usually runs a summer Basic class w/ Recert. Ray's E-Mail ResQme413

I will look into it for you. Good question! It would be nice to get a jump on things I agree.

As we all know training is very important. Unfortunately sometimes we seem to forget that. Train, Train, Train. You can never get enough of it. I would like to suggest the services of a personal friend of mine. Lt. Pete Lund of FDNY Rescue 2. He recently retired after 30 years of service. In addition Pete is also an active vollie on LI and with Kentland FD. You have seen him on "The Bravest". Lt. Lund has formed a Training Group called Traditions Training. http://www.traditionstraining.com/staff.shtml The main focus is RIT Training and Firefighter Survival. Other classes offered include Building Construction Class featuring lightweight construction, Strategic Planning for your Department, Truck Company Operations, Tower Operations, Engine Company Operations, Forcible Entry, Incident Command Classes for the Advanced and Beginners. More to come..... Check him out. Remember EVERYONE GOES HOME!

Peekskill FD has had a Straight Stick for a very long time. Recently we got a 95' Aerial Platform. I have had the chance to use both. Personally when it comes to extended operations or making a rescue I would have to say TL all the way. ~TL45~

I happen to have visited with a few fire dispatch agencies and I can only say good things about having a county-wide dispatch. The very 1st thing that should happen is establish county-wide "Dispatch Only" frequency. Suggestion would be one for Northern end and one for the Southern end of the county. Too many agencies on 46.26 and now that almost everyone is getting repeaters it's only a matter of time before it gets out of control if not at that point already. We have other low band frequencies and the UHF Fire Grounds but let's face it. Do we utilized them? No. Do all department's have the correct radio equipment? No. Has anyone ever listened to when you have more than one working fire or major incident? It's too much radio traffic. I have to give DES "60 Control" a lot of credit. I've heard a working fire and then some department comes on announcing the ladies auxiliary spaghetti dinner. Read it now and it's a good laugh but for the chief officer on the scene requesting an additional ladder for people trapped I don't think it was funny. C'mon!! By having a "Dispatch Only" frequency you would dispatch the call and the agency would respond on another frequency. Once on the scene you should switch to a Fire Ground. This may sound like a lot of frequencies or radio equipment it's not. Look at all the various systems out there now. Multiple Low band frequencies, UHF repeaters, UHF Fire Grounds, VHF repeaters, Vehicle repeaters. We are repeater crazy! Why? Because the current system is not working. I think the county should switch everything over to UHF but personally I must say I am not sold on the county-wide trunking idea at all. Well, that's my suggestion and opinion I hope to have some feedback. On last thing on safety. PLEASE UTILIZE THE UHF FIRE GROUND FREQUENCIES!! Firefighters have died being trapped in fire's making mayday calls on a repeater system. The Command Post or a Firefighter 20 feet away may not hear you. Simplex direct unit to unit is the ONLY way to go for on scene communication. I say this only because I know of a few department's who still operate this way and it's so dangerous. The life you save could be your own.
