All I can tell you is we have a 1991 Pierce Lance engine and since the day we recieved it we have nothing but electrical problems with it including stalling at idle speed. This replaced a 1973 MAck CF 700 which was a great rig and had very little problems. Andy Mancusi Chief Hawthrorne FD

I agree it was too much to have 13 departments. Losing Tony Bosco who I have worked with for years on the fireground is the only downfall for us as he is not only a great batt coordinator but is a great guy all around and a pleasure to have responding to our incidents. We only have an age limit for driving and it is 65 allthough it has been waived on a case by case basis. I do agree there comes a point where one must ask am I too old for this type of activity??? Most volunteer depts have life membership categories and maybe at a certain age duty should be limited to maybe dispatching or other administrative jobs but at what age do you draw the line and also...can you legally tell someone they can not perform the duties because of age in a volunteer department? There were lawsuits years ago regarding pregnant members of volunteer departments who were told by thier powers to be to take medical leaves but the women won based on a discrimanatory issue. Very good point Hudson. We carry 2 1/2 pre-connected hand lines on our engines as well as 1 3/4. I have tossed with the idea of increasing the amount of 2 1/2 due to the many large commercial buildings we do have in our district. I have used both size hand lines and there is definitely a difference with the 2 1/2 especially when you use a smooth bore. Andy Mancusi Chief Hawthorne FD

There are people in this country that go above and beyond. As we "freely" express our opinions on this board there are those right now losing thier lives in Iraq and Afganisthan or getting hurt so we can "freely" express our selves. They don't ask for much and don't get much when they return home. As far as I am concerned they deserve the extra points. And believe me I am someone who would benefit from the proposed law as I have been volunteering for many years but no sacrifice I have made has come close to what our armed force members have sacrificed. Being I had no family in the fire service I can't consider myself a "brat". I was a 17 year old kid who was heading at one point in the wrong direction and ended up joining my first fire department and got taken in by a group of people who simply would not take any sh** and showed me the right direction not only in firefighting but in life general.
