Sometimes donations are viewed as money not accountable to the public because they are donations and not money from taxes which I feel is wrong. People are donating money in good faith and under the impression that the money is needed for things such as equipment and to cover necessary operating costs so I feel every dollar should be accountable to the public. On another note I remember having a few of the Avation guys in my basic firefigher class back in the early 2000's and they were great guys and very eager to learn.

Mount Vernon is full of wonderful ,highly trained firefighters and Officers--but when you have elected officals who reneg on promises made its a wonder that the fire department is holding togeather at all. Mount Vernon deserves to be a first class fire department with the best stations and the best apparatus and the best Officers.

I agree...

Very petty. I guess someone needed brownie points.

We had former members still getting in. Why it is important to get badges and id cards back when people leave or get thrown out.

I fail to see the differecne between taking photos of a bridge or from the Empire State building. Anything today can be considered sensitive or a target. I would not mind being questioned by authorities but to actually be detained?

Arson and sex with a teen age girl??? Not enough time in my book. This parasite should never walk free again.

I think it is time for replacement.

I don't see why it is so relevant to have those who worked EMS in busy systems on a committee to establish ALS. I mean it was a no brainer. We needed ALS..period. The committee was formed to establish the need which we did and than establish the system which we also did which is the present system we now have in town which at an ALS prespective is working out well. The medics are great. . Blood and guts are a "real deal" wether it is in Mt. Pleasant or NYC.

Make sense??? TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY: Sheriff Joe Arpaio (In Arizona) Who created the " Tent City Jail": He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He stopped smoking and p**** magazines in the jails. Took away their weights Cut off all but "G" movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. Then He Started Chain Gangs For Women So He Wouldn't Get Sued For discrimination. He took away cable TV Until He found out there was A Federal Court Order That Required Cable TV For Jails. So He Hooked Up The Cable TV Again and Only Let In The Disney Channel And The Weather Channel. When asked why the weather channel He Replied, So They Will Know How Hot It's Gonna Be While They Are Working He Cut Off Coffee Since It Has Zero Nutritional Value. When the inmates complained, he told them, "This Isn't The Ritz/Carlton. If You Don't Like It, Don't Come Back." He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place. More On The Ar izona Sheriff: With Temperatures Being Even Hotter Than Usual In Phoenix (116 Degrees Just Set A New Record), The Associated Press Reports: About 2,000 Inmates Living In A Barbed-Wire-Surrounded Tent Encampment At The Maricopa County Jail Have Been Given Permission To Strip Down To Their Government-Issued Pink Boxer Shorts. On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 Degrees Inside The Week Before. Many Were Also Swathed In Wet, Pink Towels As Sweat Collected On Th eir Chests And Dripped Down To Their PINK SOCKS. "It Feels Like We Are In A Furnace," Said James Zanzot, An Inmate Who Has Lived In The TENTS for 1 year. "It's Inhumane." Joe Arpaio, The tough-guy sheriff Who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 Degrees In Iraq And Our Soldiers Are Living In Tents Too, And They Have To Wear Full Battle Gear, But They Didn't Commit Any Crimes, So Shut Your Damned Mouths!" Way To Go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves. He was just re-elected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona

[quote name='ONEEYEDMIC' date='Jul 17 2007, 10:10 PM' post='96900'. VACGUY how am I unorthodox? I just say what is on my mind. Here is my problem. When Mt Pleasant started their MEDIC system I was the FIRST MEDIC in TOWN and the FIRST to do an ALS call. Of course growing up here I knew lots of people. When I started to work as a MEDIC I met many more VOLUNTEERS. Some I like and MOST I HATE. Sorry if I took all your fun away(you know who you are) but it was too better the TOWN. You may not like ALS till your family member needs it then you will understand how important it is. I know there is some ALS committee for MT PLEASANT not sure who is on it but it is not the people who know what the REAL DEAL is. Since I grew up in this TOWN, worked in this TOWN as a MEDIC and NOW work in this TOWN doing other things, I think that my input could be used. I have never once been asked my opinion. Maybe my opinion doesn't matter, but since I have been doing this for some time now and have seen many different systems it shouldn't hurt to listent to what I have to say. I KNOW THAT THE TRUTH HURTS and the people who are against a PAID SYSTEM are the ones that DON"T WANT TO ADMIT TO THE TRUTH. Oneeye, First, unlike VACGUY I speak for myself and I am for a town wide ems system. Nuff said on that. Also, I was on the original ALS committee representing Hawthorne along with a few others and untill I resigned as chief had attended many ALS meetings so please tell me what the "real deal" is as you put it. I was and still am a big proponet of ALS in fact argued at length with some of the former powers to be about the necessity of ALS.

So now someone has to volunteer to speak and be heard???
-
What do you prefer....pockets on your turnout coat to hold your portable or using a radio harness? Just looking for opinions.

I feel this type of training is important and we don't do enough of it. I like the fact the instructors would not give an out to the firefighters an out when they were trapped as it forced them to signal a may-day.

The two other piles of s**t that were inolved in the shooting of 2 NYPD officerswere captured in Pennysylvanania. I hope they get the "therapy" as we say in my profession they deserve.

[quote name='Goose' date='Jul 12 2007, 11:44 AM' post='96321 Not to rain on anyone's parade but how many times are we gonna go over personal vehicles and their associated light schemes? There seem to be more pressing issues in the emergency services worthy of discussion... Amen!!!

I have never been part if a competition nor have I seen one but to add to ALS's comments...wouldn't "rushing" which I am sure occurs in these competitions cause mistakes?
-
I hope this will lead to a mature discussion as I have dodged rocks before on this topic mostly in person but does it really matter who's rig gets first best. second best, etc? Isn't it important the the rig has qualified people to do the job thant the rig was intended to in the first place. I haven't marched in a parade other than Memorial Day in years even as a chief but it seems that they keep adding categories. I could remember getting flack one time because a judge decided to march along side me and I tirned to him and laughed a and another time I waved to a bunch of kids in front of a bunch of judges in which I thought parades were for the kids in the first place. If we can't wave to kids or the general public who supports us than what's the purpose of marching??? For trophies? To say my engine is cleaner than yours? To say I have most people in the line of march? How about more people on the fireground....trained competent people. I could remember times when marching was a requirement to stay in a company yet there wer enot training requirements. Parades should be simply to have fun. Marching like we are in Fort Bragg is not my idea of fun. We should be this strict on training.

I am a firm believer of double the time of a non-firefighter.

I will take the elderly person who fell out bed anyday. Been to enough MVA's that I care for. Usually due to speeding, alcohol. or cell phones. While I will agree the pick and choose is a problem I don't think it pertains to the issue here. I blame lack of command, sop's and lack of communicating with other agencies which boils down to training in my opinion.
-
I hope to see us get out of the ems business and see it go town wide but that is another story as well...
-
This is so true. Chiefs both police and fire, unions, commisioners, etc were concerned with "who will be in charge". There was also concerns about agencies getting to big they would be accesible to the citizens. I do agree mergers would be cost effective but we will see snow in July before that happens.

I have flown Jet-Blue on a few occasions and have never had any problems in fact I am flying them to California at the end of this month.
