  1. First, Firefighter70....you guys are doing a thankless job and it is appreciated. Second, forget political views....the FD was supporting our troops, not taking sides or protesting other political views. We should all be supporting our troops. Look how many ff's, emt's and cops are over there. Since when did supporting our troops become political???
  2. Being reirement for me is a few years away I am looking to go south. I know Deleware does not tax out of state pensions but can anyone tell me if any of the other Atlantic states do or don't? I am particulary interested in Florida or the Carolinas. Thanks
  3. I actually found a list on the NYS retirement site and I was wrong on Delaware. According to the site Delaware does tax pensions but there are exclusions for those over 60. If interested here is the website http://www.rpea.org/pensiontaxes.htm
  4. I agree it is not a good idea to post on here but your idea in general is not a bad one at all in fact we shoud devote more time looking out for eachother. What about a list server through EMTBRAVO? Is that possible??
  5. Shortly after 9/11 my dept engaged in a "Battle of the Badges" basketball game for charity. I had a connection with Phil Rizzuto and was able to get him to come to our game and commentate for us. He was a true gentlmen and in the phone conversation when I asked him to attend the game the ony thing he wanted was cannoli's and coffee which he had both before and aftet the game. He signed autographs and later came back to the firehouse and just chatted with us. The baseball world has lost a true gentlemen. He will be missed.
  6. Yes, Chamberlain was amazing and I think part of the Yankees problem was pitching. A few more like him is what they need.
  7. I joined the fire service as a volunteer in 1980. I joined mainly because at the time I was a typical 17 year old with long hair and an attutude and was somewhat a rebel. I was heading down the wrong track. I was taken by a gruop of men who pretty much straightened me out and taught me how to be a productive community servant. Now at 44 my attitude towards community service is the same as it was back when I first joined. I loved the comradity, friendship, the pranks and more so the training and learning new things. I was told you are here for 3 reasons...... keep your mouth shut, learn, and do as your told. Something I still believe in today but unfortunately even the fire service to some degree has become politically correct and that is what is ruining it. I don't know the answers on how to get more volunteers. The simple answer to the shortage if depts dont want to recruit is hire.
  8. That was the intent of buying the quint. Like most depts we at times are short on manpower so with a rig like this you can accomplish several tasks with 6 people which our avarage response daytime will bring 6-10 plus with our dual response policy will bring a few more. I am not totally sold on the quint concept as I feel an engine is an engine and a truck is a truck but I guess times are dictating the quint.
  9. Embarassing or perhaps suspicious....
  10. I don't see why this would turn into a heated debate. You have your opinions and others have thiers. And thank God and our troops we can express them freely. And don't all depts at one time or another side with political statements? What about political endorsments?
  11. Once again the politically correct "left" is frustrated because someone disagree's with them. I do not see anything wrong with the FD being there. I too want peace and an end to the war but I also stand behind those in uniform who are spilling blood to combat terrorism. These protestors should be reminded that this country was victims of these terrorists and could possibly be victims again and the FD was suppoting those who fight so that anyone can protest anything they are against. I would love to see which side the ACLU would take...
  12. Because we are entitled to workman comp(VFBL) and also LOSAP we are considered employees.
  13. You must of been one of my EVOC students... ....I preach the very same thing when I conduct a class. Many of our calls do not warrant the lights and sirens especially relocating to another house for a standby. I even feel if you are called to the scene hours later is the noise necessary? Remember..wether you are driving or directing traffic....the other drivers do not care about you !!!
  14. This has always been a sore subject with me....especially when I see some in uniform drunk and acting like a** holes.
  15. Forgive me for being a killjoy but we seem to have money to go up to space but yet they have to close down burn centers and hospitals in general are facing financial issues especially in a time where these facilities may be needed. Not saying to stop space programs but if terrorism is such the threat the government claims than why shortchange valuable resources.
  16. That's my anniversary...guess I will have to tell the wife we have to stay home to monitor EMTBRAVO.... The 100,001 post will be my death notice...LOL
  17. I agree. What is this world coming to??? Forcing people to attend a gay parade??? Has this chief flipped his lid? I hope these guys sue them blind and make an example. Enough of the politicly correct bull s**t.
  18. Wasn't losing the toll both on the Hutch also a factor in cutting ESU?
  19. May he rest in peace.
  20. Those of you who know me and know what I do for a living may scratch thier heads on this one but inmates are entitled under law to the very same health care as me and you. And as much I agree with the methods and practices of the sherrif in Arizona I can tell you the one thing he can not take away is thier right to adequate health care. I too would love to see cop killers, child molesters, etc rot away but our liberal society packed with greedy lawyers have dictated otherwise and prison/jail officials have a responsiblity to see that the rights of all incarcerated are protected. On another note, not all inmates, especially in a county jail/pen setting are cop killers and child molesters and drug dealers. I have dealt with many vietnam vets who to this day are messed up due to the war and never recieved the proper care they should of recieved when they came home from the war. Some are in for other non-violent crimes and are first timers who made mistakes and are trying to get thier lives together. How about the father who was jailed because he violated an order of protection when he called his house to talk to his kids who were beat up by his ex-wifes new boyfriend. And there are the pre-trial detainees who are innocent untill proven guilty. Then there are the few who simply should not be in jail at all. I don't mean to sound liberal. Most of them do deserve to belong there and I don't feel sorry for them but what has to be seperated is what we feel and what is the law and the law says they have to be afforded adequate health care as well as other services.
  21. Too bad he is 59 as his punishment should of been to join the Marines. Than again, would the Marines want someone like him??
  22. As a parent of a high school sophomore I feel it is not the schools job to tell our kids how to dress it is our job as parents to teach our kids how to dress properly. Maybe I am old school but since when is it the schools job to tell kids how to dress. I am for some sort of restrictions but it won't do any good if parents do not enforce it. I see how some of the kids dress and I wonder how do the parents let them outof the house like that. If a student does dress out of order than the school should notify the parents as a kid could leave the house dressed one way and change into something else which is not appropiate. I pay enough taxes so my son can read, write, add, etc. The taxpayers should not have to dress my son or anyone else. If I catch my son wearing baggy pants with his boxers showing or any other type of inproper way of dressing I can guarantee his a** and my foot will get well aquainted.
  23. Lake George is a great weekend spot and so is Point Pleasant NJ. I also like Vegas. I just got home from Southen California and thought it was nice there also. If you really want to go to a nice island with not too much night life ( you can tell I am getting older) than try Bermuda. The beaches are beautiful and the resorts are nice. I love the pools where there are bar stools in the water and you can swim right up to the bar.
  24. Heavens ranks once again have increased. May they rest in peace.
